Braben has gone on record stating it's definitely coming, and my opinion is that you don't confirm something for a second time, if it isn't already in development. I imagine this time next year we'll be walking around.. for what purpose I'm not quite sure...

Oh please don't... my hope for Elite is hanging by a Thargoid pubic hair as it is.

Uhuh.. I've been crying in the forums about it for a while... at least some of the regulars in there are finally waking up to the fact that there is more to the Elite universe than pewpew... we'll have to see if the Fdev crew listen and accept that a very large majority of players want to actually DO stuff.

Only to sell more cosmetics. This game is the most disappointing game this decade, up there with Andromeda. Oddly, I've managed over 1500 hours (1300 registered on Steam) on this game. I know most of that was spent grinding over and over delivery missions to make the credits to finally get the imperial cutter... but throughout that time, literally nothing of substance was ever added. People seem to want to measure game value by time played - I don't think you can do that with Elite, because I was playing it hoping something else would eventually come along to make the time spent worthwhile. 3 years on and I'm still waiting.

Unfortunately couldn't agree more. I haven't spend that much time because...well...I just couldn't. Space sims were probably my favorite alongside adventure games (old school), my favorite being Privateer series. This game was just empty. Just run around and try to make money from a specific set of missions with no context, or substance or anything to get your riled up like planet exploration or bases, like in privateer, with places to go etc. One of my worst buy's. Shame.

Well, I am very curious too. Even simply landing on a distant planet and walking around doing... nothing... sounds tempting (for a while) for the Sci-Fi nerd in me.

I got that urge too - soon after watching The Martian. So I endured the 1,200 l.y. trip back home just to be starkly reminded that, oh yea, you can't actually land on any planets that would be of most interest, those in OUR ACTUAL SYSTEM.

It's because planetoids are proc gen, and so if you landed on the Moon, you'd immediately be like 'Hey I don't sea the Sea of Tranquillity' etc, and too much work would be involved in making everything as it is IRL.

FDev have often mentioned we'll be able to land on certain planets soon® - but I can't see it happening. Artistic license is possible with Venus and other moons in the solar system, but Mars (which is terraformed), the Moon, Pluto (which I can't see happening because again, we can actually see what it looks like now) and Mercury (again, we can see it) I doubt we'll ever get to experience.

I get the feeling that the Stellar Forge is great for approximating planets based on their composition, location etc, but modelling existing bodies we KNOW about... I don't think it can manage it.

Quote:

Tencent has acquired a 9% stake in Frontier Developments, in a deal worth £17.7 million.

The Chinese company has purchased 3.37 million newly issued ordinary shares, which will be admitted for trading on the AIM Stock Exchange. Tencent's stake would have been 9.9% of the Frontier prior to the new shares being issued, but only 9% after.

Frontier said that the £17.7 million would be used to augment its existing cash reserves, which stood at £12.6 million at the end of May 2017. The Cambridge-based studio will also invest in growth, in terms of its headcount and its portfolio.

EDIT: Oh. (From the Fortnite thread.)

Tencent Holding Company.

And you can bet your ass they want their money's worth out of (Epic).

Played Beta for a bit but was tough for me to grasp a lot of what needed to be done to map out the controller (HOTAS setup) and I just could not get money for the life of me.

I have since reinstalled this as of a week or two ago and have played a few data missions for some cash but of course its a far cry from the real ship acquisition thus far.

That said, I am looking for suggestions on what keys I should absolutely map for my HOTAS. I have looked at numerous layouts for the X55 Rhino setup but they vary a lot more than I thought they would. Any tips on what I should absolutely have vs. things I could leave on the keyboard? Thanks in advance.

Or if you have a layout for the X55 you would recommend, I'd be open to give that a try too. Thanks!

Using the Rhino as well here

Didn't it have a default X55 Rhino layout in game ? Or did I build it myself ? because I got one Confused
I use default profile for this game in the profile software.

EDIT :

Link to my slightly modified custom bind file :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7zindgy500eml38/Custom.2.0.binds?dl=0

goes to : C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\...
(might need to change <KeyboardLayout>fr-FR</KeyboardLayout> to yours on line 3)

I don't use keyboard anymore just ESC to stop playing, HOTAS is a must especially when playing with the Rift.

Awesome. Will give this a try. Thank you.

Yes, it did have a an X55 profile within the game, but it just feels like it is incomplete for some reason. Or at the minimum, just not mapped well.

Yep,

I added some mapping on throttle right switches (like Lights, galaxy/sector maps, ...) and Chaff/flares on the china hat next to the pinky wheel.

The rest was almost spot on. Wink
