*Must not open your spoilers* ..it's so tempting, but I shall resist.
I do have the feeling that something will inevitably happen to shake things up a bit, the situation is hanging in that limbo of apparent stasis, we've been dreaming and waiting both figuratively and literally speaking. My body is ready for the full-Lynch effectâ„¢

Can't believe that's the 3rd? appearance of Audrey, she continues to be entirely unlikable, and her story still hasn't progressed a single inch. What the fuck were they thinking when writing her parts???

Well, almost. Everything with Audrey continues to be a waste of time, but they have hinted we might see something worthwhile with her in the finale next week.

Part 16 may be one of the best hours of television I've ever seen. I do love Audrey's arc too.

Good part 17, terrible part 18. The worst episode of the season was the final hour and it ends again on a cliffhanger.
If there's no season 4 made - and most probably there won't - for me Twin Peaks ends with part 17.
(To be accurate, the real Twin Peaks for me ends with Season 2 / FWWM, this season was interesting, but not really Twin Peaks.)

This is what I got out of it:
Spoiler: | Twin Peaks was Laura's story. ("Laura is the one", and this season's intro to each episode starts with Laura's picture)
By rewriting reality, this is no longer Laura's story, or rather Twin Peaks is over. You could say that a show called "Odessa", with different characters (even if played by the same actors), different locations and different subplots is going on. Cooper, who is called Richard here, acts more like a combination of Coop + Mr. C, Diane, who is called Linda, has a different history with Coop/Richard.. The switch of realities seems to happen about when Coop/Richard and Diane/Linda have sex, what with Diane/Linda seeing her doppelganger waiting (for the switcheroo?), and the sex scene being way off. When Coop/Richard wakes up the next morning, he seems to be in the new reality for good.
When he goes to Laura/Carrie, there are whole different subplots to the "Odessa" TV show going on. She asks him if they found him IIRC (doesn't matter who, it shows there are subplots going on we know nothing about), she has a dead guy in her house (again, doesn't matter who this guy is), and so on.
Essentially the Twin Peaks TV show ends with Part 17, and Part 18 is a random episode of the "Odessa" show. Or you could say it's just a different reality. Realities are like dreams to Lynch. "We're like the dreamer who dreams and then lives inside the dream. But who is the dreamer?" - the dreamer is no longer our heroes, this is no longer their show.
Behind the switching of realities it seems like they are the Tremonds, always involved with the supernatural. (Kind of like the supernatural club Silencio in Mulholland Dr., even if the first 2/3rds of the film were a dream of sorts, to me it feels like Silencio, and its mysterious inhabitants, exists no matter what.)
Finally, Laura/Carrie seems to be having a rude awakening realizing she doesn't belong there, akin to Audrey waking up from her coma, after 25 years. She too was the dreamer of her own reality. Unlike Audrey, I don't think Laura/Carrie can wake up, as she's not in a coma, she's in a reality, just not the one she belongs to.
edit: Oh and Coop always trying to fix the situation is who is responsible. He should have let go. He caused the mess with doppelganger at the end of season 2, he told Laura not to take the ring in FWWM (thankfully she didn't listen to him), and he now "saved" Laura. |

Julee Cruise will never work with Lynch again: https://www.alternativenation.net/twin-peaks-julee-cruise-calls-finale-slap-face-emperor-david-lynch/
Some additional thoughts,
Spoiler: | it seems like Cooper's plan to save Laura at first worked, as her corpse disappears.
But it angers Sarah, who is hinted to be inhabited by Judy/Mother/The Experiment, and then Laura is gone before Cooper gets her "home", and then we have Part 18. (Sarah has been long implied to have been at least subconsciously aware of Leland raping Laura; now it looks like the implication is that a lodge spirit was always inhabiting her and perhaps feeding of her misery, which perhaps has something to do with the little girl that swallowed that frogbug, perhaps that girl is Sarah).
So there is the implication that it's Sarah/Judy that perhaps creates a new reality as a reaction to what Cooper did, because the sequence of events is corpse disappears -> Sarah attacks Laura's picture frustrated, Laura disappears from Cooper's hand before getting "home'.
My biggest question is not what comes after Part 18, but what did we watch happen during this season? Specifically:
1) What was Mr. C's goal? To reunite with Judy? Didn't he know it was inside Sarah? His meeting with Jeffries, during which he was told he already knows Judy, implies Mr. C didn't realize it beforehand. So maybe BOB kept this from Mr. C?
2) Who was trying to kill him? Who was the Jeffries-impostor?
Isn't it super weird we never really figured what Mr. C was precisely trying to do (reunite with Judy in order to? Just do evil stuff?) and who was trying to stop him and why??????
edit Wait.. Or are Mr. C and Judy enemies? Was the Jeffries-impostor Judy/Sarah?!
That would make some sense, because it's super weird not to know who was after Mr. C! It must be someone who we met during this season. And she seems like the only supernatural character available to fit... |

That was the masterful work of a professional trolling mind, dammit Lynch you beautiful bastard. After episode 17 I thought I had the situation under control (well, sort of ), the "I can't believe there's actually something resembling a resolution", then 18 arrived and holy Fireman.
"Everything will make sense", good ol' Kyle said. Little did we know that it was merely an elaborate ruse, and yet, a memorable experience in its own, twisted, and actually rather melancholic way. Great analysis Consolitis, I agree and that is pretty much what I managed to gather as well, although while the gist of it is somewhat clear, there are indeed at least one hundred of questions regarding multiple characters at the moment that will probably never find an answer.
...or maybe not. See you in 25 years? Twin Peaks' Walk with Me (if you can) set inside the nursing home

Quote: | So there was an event yesterday in Belgrade called "Online with David Lynch", as a part of the "Small Stories" exhibition, where fans had the opportunity to ask David Lynch some questions.
An hour before the Skype call, there was a screening of the documentary "Meditation, Creativity, Peace", so most of the questions were related to the topic of transcendental meditation, but some guy from the crowd shouted "ARE WE GETTING THE FOURTH SEASON???", to which David replied, "It's too early to talk about that, if it were to happen, you wouldn't see anything in the next 2 or 3 years, because the last season took 5 years to make.".
The same guy also asked, "What happened to Audrey Horne?", to which David of course replied, "What do you think happened to her?" |
I really don't see another season happening given the low ratings, but I'll keep you updated if I read more about it.

OK, guys quick question. I loved the first two season of this show and was really excited for this season. However, I saw the first 3 episodes and seems like I was just pushing myself to get through them. Everything felt extremely weird and not in a good way. I mean I'm left scratching my head as to what the fuck is going on.
Without spoiling anything, for those who completed it, how do you rate this season and does it get better later?

I liked this season a lot, perhaps almost as much as the first, bit hard to compare, they are very different. If you don't like the first episodes you're not gonna like it.

Is the third season better than the second one? I'm still struggling to get through it.
I don't quite get why this show is praised so much. I really like most Lynch's films but this TV series?
Not so much.
The story is not that interesting (dat demon Bob etc) , the acting is pretty mediocre (especially in the first season).
The first season was Okeish but the second season is just.. Jeez... They should have never made so many episodes..It feels like a boring telenovela... Where is exactly David Lynch in there? Yeah there were some nice scenes I really enjoyed and it felt like a proper David Lynch material but that's it..

Those are all difficult questions (@Horny and @Shawn_Hunter)
Both the second season and the third one are extremely peculiar and uneven in two completely different ways. It's Twin Peaks but at the same time there are many instances where the show becomes something else entirely, and I can see that aspect being off putting to many. It was the same for me too, I liked them in the end but I consider them inferior to the first glorious season, classic Twin Peaks at its finest.
Season 2 is extremely whacky especially when it makes fun of the 90s soap operas. There's unexpected comedy, pansy romance and a silly jovial atmosphere in the middle, though the final episodes thankfully go back to the default tone and redeem the season.
Season 3 on the other hand adds other different flavours to the mix, that classic cozy Peak feeling almost vanishes, there's a darker tone, tonnes of allegories and Lynch goes full Lynch in several occasions, don't expect your questions to find any answers. Once again, the season picks up near the end, with the next-to-last episode being brilliant. Then the last one arrives and ruins everything

He wasnt very involved in second season.. he also hates it..
As for the acting, it's on pair with other shows of that time. Acting has changed since then so for newbies (and younger people) it will come off as very goofy.
I think TP still is one of his best work, first and third season are superb imo.. story isnt great but movies and TV shows can go way beyond that, just like games can.

Many older (even much older) films and some TV series have better acting than this show. I'm mostly talking about the European films and TV shows though, although quite a few American films are better in this regard.

yeah, that's true, but overall this was the type of acting that was done in the 90's for tv-shows and many movies, quite over-the-top, people scream like madmen and over act all the time, nothing is subtle.
