There's more being made and advertised on that site!
http://www.pixelads4all.com/ is just one of them
Now that all this hype is over who is actually going to visit that site now? and the most effective ad is the "don't click" one.

I seriously doubt whatever company bought that last 1000 pixels will recoup the money through the sole publicity of that site in any pratical amount of time . Sure, £1000 is a bargin, but not £80,000. |
80k is peanuts to most companys and would barely touch there advertising budget and i assume they will get more press coverage over the pixels than spending the 80k any other way.
but yea the website is stupid

might seem a lot to us,
but you should know how much is paid for primetime 30 seconds in the USA.
I belief they paid almost 100.000$ for 1 30s commercial in friends.
i quote form fox website:

Fox Breaks Prime-Time Pricing Record
By Steve McClellan, Adweek
September 12, 2005
Mediaweek
Heading into its fifth year, American Idol, Fox's hit show, has set a new milestone for network TV: a record-high price tag for a 30-second commercial unit.
For the new fall season, the cost of a 30-second spot during the Wednesday installment of the program has surpassed the $700,000 mark. That’s a first for any regularly scheduled prime-time network series. Sources with firsthand knowledge of the numbers confirmed that the average price for a 30-second unit in the program is $705,000, up about 7 percent from a year ago.

Televised commercials (fuck even radio commercials) are worth the money. a bunch of pixels amoungst a shitload is not an effective way to advertise

But look at places like goldenpalacecasino. Didnt they buy that jesus toast for 100,000? or something rediculous like that.
This bit of money is hardly anything and radio is the most cost effective way. Now I think TV advertising is too expensive with too many hours, shows, channels and breaks. It's way too saturated.

True, but atleast with TV you get the visuals as oppose to having to hunt through lil ass pixels.
As for the GoldenPalace place...those ppl are fucked. They buy all the wacked, retarded shit off Ebay - or so it seems. And they prolly have that shit budgeted out.
No marketing reps finds himself sitting at his desk thinking its a good idea to spend 80G's on pixels...my brother is in marketing and advertising and even he thinks its a ridiculous idea. The amount of revenue you'll receive is less than the cost of the advertisement, so its not a very effective advertisement i'd say.

Yea but no doubt there's a clause in 20 years time when the site is no longer active and they have to get their money back .. of course it'll lose a bit in value but gpc are never short of money . also I think thats quite cost-effective when you consider the price of using advertisements on google or yahoo.
