Tried it today, couldn't get through the first episode.

Over-stylized piece of garbage that tries too hard is my take on it. Razz
I never was a fan of weird for the sake of being weird either.

Might do so, but that's for in a year or two... have about 50 others on the list before it.
(Not too bad though, at least that backlog seems to progress while the gaming one just grows )

I don't think it's weird for the sake of being weird at all. The protagonist have no idea what he's thrown into, so it's the same for us (the viewers), we can relate to him/them and we are confused as well..

They've actually done that exceptionally well and it all comes together gradually. It's over-stylized but it's within the very theme so it fits... I was a bit annoyed at first but i soon realized it makes sense for what it is trying to portray, but it takes a few episodes. One of the best series i've seen as of late, and i rate most series as pure garbage.. Tons of great and interesting characters, not the usual 1-2 characters that are decently interesting.

Because it' isn't Very Happy It's just that the first episode may give that impression. The plot is nothing weird and is actually very simple, and the style the creators are using is just there to give a vague idea of what gods walking on earth among humans would look like, and that is what is weird Razz

One of my cousins kept telling me to watch this one. I did, done with it for a while now actually. I liked it I suppose, but I don't really have anything to say about it... thought it's alright and that's it I guess.

Well, it's not gonna win any awards anytime soon (except maybe for acting) cause it's just too niche, just like Penny Dreadful, Hannibal, etc. But that's ok in my book Razz

http://deadline.com/2017/11/american-gods-michael-green-bryan-fuller-exit-showrunners-starz-series-1202216964/

Quote:
Michael Green and Bryan Fuller, the masterminds behind Starz’s American Gods, have exited the big-budget drama series. We hear the duo informed the cast of their departure today.
No one is addressing the reasons behind Green and Fuller’s exit, but we hear that the split may have been over the series’ budget. There had been talk that the budget for first season of the ambitious production had ballooned to Game of Thrones levels. We hear series producer FremantleMedia North America, under new scripted chief Dante di Loreto, tried to impose big budget cuts for the 10-episode second season, which led to the showrunner change.

Yeah. I can't see it working without Fuller (not to mention a smaller budget). It could have, if they started with someone else from the get go. Now it's hard to imagine, since season one is so full of his particular style.

Damn it, why can't we have nice things. That sounds ominous indeed, since the show was signature Fuller through and through, and the budget was put to great use in a very unique way to make the imaginative vision(s) come to life.

Either the second season will follow another more conventional (generic) direction, or some copycats will be hired to try to recreate the old feeling with the limited budget and a lot of risks involved, pleasing The Old god Knockoff Sad Laughing

Good riddance, that was one very bad adaptation of one of my Top-10 books. Some awesome charecters but overall it was a disaster.

No that's just not possible, this is a story you either do faithfully like the first season or not at all.

Sometimes it was very faithful, but most of the time deviated into senseless dicks and buttsex and the walking dead wife had too much screen time. The authors clearly had and order from above to make it last as long as possible and ultimately fucked the pacing up.

Addressing Fuller and Green specifically, Albrecht claimed that they were neither fired nor did they quit. They'll continue to be involved "as much as they can be," while source material scribe Neil Gaiman will take on the showrunner duties. He'll be paired with a yet-to-be-determined TV vet. The search for the right producer is one of the reasons holding the show up

American Gods season 2 has officially started production
War is coming.

http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/american-gods/news/a854187/american-gods-season-2-officially-started-production/

Quote:
The road to season two has been a bumpy one. Back in January, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht admitted he'd had "trouble" pulling the second season together following some big name departures.

First we had the departure of showrunner Bryan Fuller (who has been replaced by Lost writer Jesse Alexander) and then actress Gillian Anderson quit her role as the God of Media.

Cleverly, the writers have cast a new, younger actress and decided to reboot the character as New Media, a commentary on our fast-moving social media culture.

Another change season two will make is having more episodes focusing on individual characters, following on from standout episode 'A Prayer for Mad Sweeney'.

No air/release date.
