That last trailer was quite awesome. I really hope it doesn't go the Prometheus route (beautiful visuals, completely nonsensical and shallow plot). Don't fuck this up people, please...
But it looks like machines versus humans scenario and who will be master race... and they confirmed that Deckard is a replicant
I was dissapointed by Arrival so I will take this with a grain of salt.

This movie had to be done again, Blade runner was a good movie but if you read "Do androids dream of electric sheep" which this movie was based off it would be good to do it again the right way, story wise.
Just over two months out from release, Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch have reportedly boarded Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049” and will collaborate on the film’s score.
Villeneuve’s longtime composer Johann Johannsson, who was been attached to the gig for nearly a year, is reportedly still involved and is still composing “the main theme as planned” according to the director.
He tells Studio Cine Live (via The Playlist) that the others have come on board mainly to help out with the monumental task of trying to live up to Vangelis’ iconic work on the original:
Quote:
“Given the magnitude of the task, Benjamin Wallfisch and Hans Zimmer joined the team to help Johann. It’s hard to [follow original ‘Blade Runner’ composer] Vangelis! We had some astonishing atmospheric [pieces] by Johann, but I needed other options, and Hans helped us.”
Ha! Not in the 2010s, buddy, where ADHD and pewpew run rampant among your colleagues. Anything too slow, too methodical, without explosions, carnage, or fast action does not grab the modern attention span.

Looks good, but Leto performance seems too robotic.
Still the BR 2049 plot somehow seems luckluster.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Early twitter impressions (by journos / critics) are that it's excellent.

BLADE RUNNER 2049 is sci-fi masterpiece; the kind of deep-cut genre film we don't see anymore. Visually mind blowing, absolutely fantastic
Good news! BLADE RUNNER 2049 is a terrific continuation and expansion of the orig. Wasn't hoping for much, ended up LOVING it. (Even Leto!)
#BladeRunner2049 is a true sequel in tune with the mood, pacing, tone, contemplative nature, and stark visual splendor of the original.
#BladeRunner2049 is real sci-fi filmmaking. It makes the new Star Wars films look like live action LEGO movies.
#BladeRunner2049 is NOT some action blockbuster. It is a hard sci-fi detective drama. They didn't reshape this to fit the mainstream.
#BladeRunner2049 is nearly 3 hours and kept me entranced, tense, and engaged the entire time. That speaks volumes. The time flew by.

Denis Villeneuve is unquestionably one of the elite working directors & there's no excuse if Deakins doesn't win the Oscar #BladeRunner2049
Even if you have no interest in the film, the breathtaking Cinematography by Roger Deakins is worth the price of admission. He’s a God.
All I can say about BLADE RUNNER 2049 is...give Roger Deakins the Oscar now. Absolutely stunning visuals

Good, but should had been at least the length of The Second Renaissance Pt1 & 2 of The Animatrix (~20 minutes total). This one, clocking at bellow 13 minutes of story time, doesn't let the story breathe and resonate, and the changes from scene to scene are too abrupt.
Hopefully the film becomes a success and someone green-lights a longer Blade Runner anime (or something inspired by it).

Visually stunning and narratively satisfying, Blade Runner 2049 deepens and expands its predecessor's story while standing as an impressive filmmaking achievement in its own right.
Many reviewers call it one of the best sequels ever made - some of them even call it better than the original.
It's hard to make a case against reboots and long-delayed sequels when an exception to the rule like Blade Runner 2049 comes along. No cynical cash-grab or by-the-numbers repeat, this sequel manages to go deeper on the ideas from the first film.
Like The Godfather Part II, it's a sequel to a very celebrated film which may actually be better than the original.

Hopefully the movie is actually good this time. I never understood the hype around the original. Seen it like 3 times through my life, but each and every time i fail to see it. Everyone is severely jacked up on heavy drugs and make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Me too. I am going to watch the new one tonight but realised I hadn't really properly watched the original.
So I sat down today and watched it - I thought it was wank.

Its a solid follow up on the story keeping close to the world created on the first one, visuals, sound and gadgets; Its all there.
My only disappointment... ish is that its too much glued to the first. Was hoping for a boulder step beyond.

Can't wait for next week. My father, me and my brother will go see it, they will come from their hometown to the big city. Top class burgers, diabetic-inducing sodas and BR 2049 on the big screen!
