So when you create a squadie in your custom pool and make him a sniper, why does he show up as a rookie and not get the "sniper" designation after you promote him? The only choices I saw are the squadie, a resistance faction member, and one other option I believe. I'm at work now so I cannot check. What's the key to making your creations be the designation you want?
I think the way that works is they preferentially get that class only when the game pulls from the pool to spawn a high rank soldier. If they get pulled as a rookie then they get randomly assigned a class on level up. The best you can do is try and avoid promoting any particular favourites you have until you can train them as your desired class. Or get the Commander's Choice mod (apparently it still works with WOTC).
what settings u playing at? or u just give up when ur main squad dies, or what u count as a fail
still no word on why the optimizations arent patched into the base game, cant bilieve everyone just swallowing that shit and think that is normal... gamers these days, no spine, all preorder sheep

They said because they had to rewrite a ton of code for the expansion, they could put in fixes etc. I think i would be more pissed off if i didn't decide to buy the DLC quite early. I'm also enjoying it immensely, but i agree its a dick move.
I'm playing on commander (non iron man), since i haven't played in a while and i wanted to get to know everything a bit better, especially the buildings, Chosen and the new classes.
There's no patch because WOTC is a completely standalone version of the game. I'm more pissed that it has doubled the HDD space it takes up. Even the SDK requires a whole other version.

they should have made it a separate entry in the Steam I think.
This way you could uninstall the original and just have the new one + necessary files from the original.
Someone had tested deleting the original files, and the game supposedly starts, but crashes at some point due to missing files. So it's quite likely that some space could be saved.

That would be useful for some people, but not for modders. You now have to support two versions of the game, so you need 70GB of game files and 120GB of SDK files.
My XCOM 2 folder for the legit version with all DLCs is 68.7GB. Of that, 35.9GB is the base game, 31.5GB is WOTC. The OST is uncompressed, which is pretty retarded. That's almost a gig by itself.
They re-introduced your soldiers literally going Berserk btw.
Like in UFO:EW/XCOM:UD. It's tied to the new bonding mechanics though. But damn is it awesome when it happens and that one guy kills all the enemies on screen because he goes apeshit after his bondmate died.
And no, it's not the same as panic. They literally empty their whole mags and use their equipment in that turn. Feels just like in the good old days.
Would be even better if it wasn't exclusive to the bonding mechanic though and you would have a chance to either panic or go berserk when one of your dudes shits his pants, got hit or had to witness something horrible

Legendary+Ironman (no 2ndWave/advanced options) but I'm considering toning it down to Commander again. Especially since I've never beaten XCOM2 in general yet and I refuse to play at anything lower than Commander (which I guess is close to Classic difficulty from EU/EW) and because I kinda hoped/figured there would be something like EW and wanted to wait for that in general.
Even though I've beaten alot of EW/EU Classic (even some LongWar) campaigns but that experience I got from there is not much of a help. Especially because I'm trying to avoid cheesing... yes, I'm one of those EU/EW/LW overwatch scrubs and I don't want to be one anymore
They ramped up the Geoscape decision making up to the max now with WoC, which is basicly what fucked me over the most in my campaigns so far with the aliens snowballing out of control if you aren't careful. Especially due to those Breaktrhough research projects that are always so friggin tempting and yet can fuck you over in the long run if you get too greedy...
It's purely my own fault though. Getting Weapon/Armor research done asap obviously seems to be the way to go but... I'm so used still to LW1 mod and trying to get by with conventional weapons as long as possible and get the other research done that I'll end up facing Mutons,Robots,DarkEventBeefedUpAdvent,Rulers and Chosen... with pea shooters and a serious case of Rookie-esque HP pools.
Ontop of that I'm also failing at establishing contacts, creating resistance networks... the new OPs that allow you to reduce Avatar Project ticks is also not helping me in making the right choices... I'm delaying all the wrong things at the wrong times and not rushing the right things.
So running out of supplies (and even monthly supply income) was also a given for my campaigns so far.
Also ending up with my whole roster being gravely wounded for eternity is also quite the common sight... RNGesus seems to feel like that full cover should not matter on my end
So, yeah, when I feel like I won't be able to catch up anymore and or recover, that's what I consider a failed campaign. Losing my main squad hurts but isn't a dealbreaker for me. All of the above is though
I also have the feeling that I should try to get promotions as fast and early as possible for the 3 new classes instead of spreading it out evenly among my rosters. The new fatigue system is the only thing that kinda prevents that though.
Ah well, I'm gonna figure something out eventually that will allow me to at least kinda let me play the way I want to and have to. Gotta find that compromise
And as long as I'm having fun, even when failing, it's all good
Meh, can't be bothered with this RNG fest anymore.
Typical X-COM Scenario:
90% chance to hit you say?
**Critical Miss**
*Shot misses the enemy by about 50 feet to the left, ricochets off a lamp post, through your squadmate's skull, into an elderly care home, striking the gas main and killing everyone inside*
*Squadmates run off screaming in hysteria*
Soldier that fired the shot: "Damnit, I missed".
Exactly why I stopped with XCOM 1, way too frustrating and constant reloading because of the fucked up chance. 95% chance to hit, MISS MISS MISS, when standing on fucking 1 feet from the enemy. Even a toddler could hit

Are you sure it even randomizes the seed on reload?
I think right now the seed stays thus you need to do something to get different result.
Ie. I think I tried reloading 3-4 times and always missed -> I moved 1 step -> Successful hit.
I'm one of those EU/EW/LW overwatch scrubs and I don't want to be one anymore
Overwatch crawling/traps was already partially nerfed by the timers in vanilla X2, but even though WOTC seems like it has far less timer missions, some of the new enemies and mechanics actually made it even less worthwhile.
Holy shit has Tactical Analysis (resistance order) made my life easier. Basically if enemies are spotted during your turn, they get 1 action less.
On Commander the game gets easy later on though (yes yes i will play properly after i finish this one). With the extra ability points you can make godlike soldiers and with some of the chosen weapons normal missions become a quite easy.
My ranger with Chosen katana (doesn't miss) and reaper does around 11 dmg per hit (with blademaster), together with the Templar who after getting full focus does around almost 10 and also had reaper. Yeah.... basically running around the map slaughtering everything.
Snipers as well now, holy shit, all the important long range stuff together with all the gunslinger perks.
They did balance this somewhat with the new tired mechanic, so i'm guessing on higher difficulties its harder to get to this point, but where i am now, i think i will breeze through the last mission. I already killed all three of the chosen and one Alien Ruler, who died in one turn.
The only class i can't find a use for is the Skirmisher. Its not bad, but there's always a better normal option i feel. The templar gets insane at high levels and the Reaper with its camo is amazing, not to mention the 2 claymores and remote start.
I just can't find a place for him in my A team (grenadier, specialist, sniper, reaper, ranger and templar)... still don't know where to place a Psy guy after he's fully leveled up....

This argument makes me laugh every time I see it. Not talking about you specificly now so don't get your jimmies rustled please. I'm just using it as an example with the points you made
(This isn't aimed at you personally, since you did not say it's broken and admitted that it's just too frustrating for you. Which is way more mature than 99% of the people that bring this up. Just making sure you'll understand! On the internet! Experience tells me I have to make this very clear! )
Everytime I see this argument, the person can't cope with the fact that there was still x% chance to miss... and also tried to savescumm their way out of the situation (thanks based seed!)... and to not look like a fool, they bring in realism... with a game where you do some of the most unrealistic and gravity defying shit... fighting plasmarifle wielding snakepeople and even more ridiculous stuff... which makes them actually look even more foolish in my eyes. And they go on calling the game "broken". BROKEN!
Deliberately hiding all the vital information in terms of the game's mechanics. What was the hitchance, were there any debuffs on that character... all deliberately hidden.. basicly pulling straws...
That shit triggers the fuck out of me...
I mean, I get it. I have the same issue with Shooters that have RPG-stat mechanics where I have direct control (like Borderlands, The Division... just two examples)... and the bulletsponging etc. I can't cope with that for example. But I'd never dare to say that these games are broken because of that. They are just not for me.
/rant
Oh and for the people getting rustled about the RNG/% and missing shots that clearly show a 100% hit chance in the game, I recommend to read this (even though it propably won't change their minds/attitude). It's old but should clear up alot of stuff:
But I guess it's a selfmade problem since the game only shows flat percentages but most likely, in regards of shown 100% shots, that's actually 99,x% and rounds that shit up instead of down. Should either give you full info on screen or at the very least always round it down and not up. The people that missed such shots should play the lottery though... talking about blessing in disguise

I haven't seen the Tactical Analysis one, but I did get one that affects tiredness. It either reduces loss or speeds up recovery (can't remember which) by 33%.

Yeah they really come into their own on any mission with Lost when you have the Between the Eyes resistance order (any hit on a Lost is an instant kill). Pistol shots for days.

Agreed. I found them pretty underwhelming. They sound like a good idea on paper, but in practice they aren't that great. I wonder if they got nerfed during balancing.

Shit, i don't even have that one and i have the most influnence with everyone. Looks like they are randomized.

Yep, had a sniper kill around 20 i think when they rushed like crazy (tnx to me using explosives then a random car blowing up)

Possibly yes. I just fail to see the role they are supposed to play. Both the others have quite defined roles, while the Skirmisher is a bit of everything, except it doesn't do anything very well. Have to max out his rank and see if there's something really worth it.

Yeah, they are random. I have all three factions at high as well, and there are still new ones available to unlock via covert ops. Before release I was watching the stream by Christopher Odd and very early on he got the Skirmisher one that removes a block of the Avatar project each month. I didn't see that one until I had basically unlocked the entire map.
Edit: I checked that Will recovery one. It's a Templar one called "Noble Cause". It's only 20% though. Still pretty good. Here are all the ones I have:
Anyone else getting random crashes on missions right before the briefing and after the avatar touches down on mission point (not on the territory)? I skipped the mission once because it always crashed and hoped it was a one time thing but not it happened again...
I dont understand how this could be called "almost" xcom 3. There is few new class, few new weapons few new cinematics. Still old campaign, yes adjusted a bit but.. that is old campaign.
Disappointed as hell.. It`s not that I dont like xcom - I liked, but this, this is only enchanted version of xcom - this is how it should be in first place.
