Just watched it too, I agree (perhaps it would be even a 7/10 for me). I expected the movie to be on the very corny side, but it actually managed to balance comedy and more serious tones in a heartfelt way.
Not everything worked since some parts dragged on, while others produced flat awkwardness, though the good performances from the two protagonists with their respective unique families (with Ray Romano's character being my favourite one ) redeemed the faults and made it click.

The Big Sick 7/10
I expected mediocrity... A rom com these days and Kumail not being that great (decent)... but damn this movie had a lot of heart and Holly Hunter and Ray Romano were great in this.
It has some slower parts indeed but I'll excuse that for the rest it had to offer and surprising me.

3:10 to Yuma (2007) - 7/10
Engaging script, better actors. Kudos to Russell Crowe for making his character likable & charismatic.
Third Star - 8/10
Poignant film about life, friendship and death. Cumberbatch was great. Not a tearjerker, more a phylosophical questioning movie. Recommended.

Baby Driver - 9/10
Edgar Wright & Bill Pope, ladies and gentlemen. Nothing else needs to be said.

Was as an okayish movie. Some bonus points because of the Warcraft universe and of Ragnar Lothbrok.
It felt a bit too rushed though.
Can't wait for Warcraft 2 with Thrall.
Also Paula Patton was damn hot as the orc chick. |
pretty sure a sequel wont happen unless its entirely financed by chinese production companies...

If you liked Nocturnal Animals and/or Nightcrawler, you'll like this. Granted.

Transformers: The Last Knight - 4/10
These movies have huge writing issues. Motherfucking Excalibur shows up and the next moment... it's forgotten as if it never appeared? WHAT? THEN WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE THINGY THAT GOT ATTACHED TO YADE??????? WHERE IS THE PAYOFF??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having said that, the characters were surprisingly less loud and obnoxious that in the previous film (though certainly still loud and obnoxious from time to time) and there weren't random dutch camera angles out of the blue, so I don't think it's that bad. I think it's one of the better entries in the (very poor) franchise.

Captain America: Civil War - 7/10
It was okay. Hoped for more after looking at the ratings it got.
The fight between the Avengers was coolish.
The story was dumb:
Spoiler: | All his plan was to lure the Avengers to that outpost, just to kill those Winter Soldiers and show them some video?
What would have been if Ironman wasn't with them at the visit? |

Baby Driver - 7,5/10
A two hour long action-music(al-ish) hybrid starring a generic young bloke as an autisticmobile badass? An idea that sounded almost foolish on paper, and yet Wright managed to pull it off, the absolute madman.
I was skeptical, the whole Baby thing didn't really intrigue me at first, but the movie actually worked damn well by mixing over-the-top adrenaline and comedy in an original way, all supported by phenomenal directing and editing (both visual and audio) with a lot of slick synced experimenting going on.
While the action scenes were the true stars here, the cast was remarkable as well, with the trio Spacey-Hamm-Foxx that delivered the goods as expected, supporting a simple serviceable story. I would still lie if I said that I liked the protagonist, but he did a good job playing that specific role and in the end it was more than enough (not having many lines helped ). As for Lily James, well consider me fully seduced ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (I didn't even know she was English, her accent was perfectly deceiving ). All in all, 'twas a nice dose of well-made mindless entertainment, a rare occurrence in the popcorn Hollypoo world and a reason to recommend it if only for the fancy action alone.

what the fuck.
no really, what the fuck.
jesus christ, what the fuck.
most of it is relatively easy to follow and pretty interesting (if a little too abstract and 'weird', but its to be expected from the guy who directed ghost in the shell...), but the last chunk of the film completely lost me and left me... well... what the fuck.

the guardians, a.k.a WHERE THE FUCK DID THOSE PANTS COME FROM.
relatively low aiming, but ultimately harmless fun. Some of the visuals were pretty good for a film of this budget.. some of the cgi.. kinda shockingly bad, but nothing id get particularly fussed over given that this wasnt some 200+ million dollar marvel film or something (im looking at your lazy shitty poor-cgi ass, civil war!) - had a good sense of style and was filmed well, even though I felt it had a very... empty.. feeling about it (like theres only 20 guys in the entire world kinda thing)
script was silly and acting was spotty (sometimes not bad, sometimes bordering on extreme parody), but.. i mean its got a fucking mini-gun toting werebear, so it all fit together into a mess that at least was consistent in its silliness.
kinda forgettable, but not without its charms and it was a reasonably entertaining watch. Would not say no to a sequel.
and seriously.. we saw that dude go full bear twice.. where the fuck do those pants keep coming from?!

Alien: Covenant 4/10
Please let this franchise die. It's like they only wrote this movie to erase Prometheus... sadly they tossed the good bits and kept the stupid shit. Ah well, at least I'm even more appreciative of Prometheus now.
It looked good, well apart from that shitty cgi on the little one in medbay.

on the franchise doesnt need to die, it just needs a proper director.
god i wish neil marshall got a crack at it with a decent (though not extravagant) budget...
we had an alien film when scott was at his peak... we had a fantastic cameron one... even despite all the production woes, fincher managed to put a really solid film out (especially the workprint release)
who have we had for the last 2 films? a fucking french faggot and a senile old git surrounded by yes-men. 'nuff said. the problem are the idiots being hired, not the franchise.. which.. lets face it... the universes most terrifying creatures, no 'set storyline' that dictates the scenarios or where they happen, and infinite scope for creating any awesome scifi location, characters, and story to feature said terrifying nasties that you can dream up. this is NOT a franchise that is problematic or needs to die.

If the only thing they can come up with is a xenomorph in a ship, then yeah it can go die.

True, but I doubt it's going to be the last time seeing how they bolted that into covenant.

my point is that its a senile old git thats the problem with the franchise, NOT that its potential has run out.

I agree that the franchise itself has potential - I've heard books are pretty good, for example (haven't read them myself). I think that if it was given some fresh blood, it could still produce something worth watching.
My main problem with Covenant isn't even directing, it's the atrocious script - coincidentally it's a recurring problem in pretty much 90% of Hollywood movies nowadays.

I've read some of the books, the two I remember best dealt with a sigourney synthetic with no knowledge of what she is, but with all her memories (only as far as the end of aliens) on a future earth that's been taken over by the aliens. Earths military are vastly depleted and she joins a group of people attempting to turn the tide against the aliens by detonating a series of bombs that were part of an old failed counter attack plan. Then a follow up where earth is rebuilding under predominantly the control of mega corporations some of which are strongly into alien research, leading to an expedition to an alien world where a genetic off cast of the alien species (that fundamentally looks the same as the "pure" species) are locked in a massive perpetual war.
Both of which, I think, would make for fuckng fantastic films.

Aliens have been explained now and lost their mystery, another movie with an alien ripping through the crew will be a bore. What's left to create out of this franchise? I don't see it.
