Of course he should ignore Genisys - that shit was beyond any form of redemption
Buuuut... so much for putting the franchise to rest, eh? Three movies instead of one means he just wants to milk it, same way those he sold it to did. They better be good ones, at the very least.
I don't think either franchise is worth Cameron's time to be honest, at this point niether franchise has a strong continuing story.. he should just hand them over to derpy directors to pump out sequels (it works for transformers, fast and furious etc.)

Would prefer something original from Cameron.
True - but we can always hope he find a good story for atleast ONE of the sequels to Avatar
This franchise is unsalvageable though.. even with mastercraft never seen before directing from Cameron, can't fix hacks soiling the IP cashing in on derp audiences that merely go to the cinema to hear classic lines repeated, or homages/nods to films that were actually creative and good.

What we do know, however, is that she's apparently going to be running up walls and jumping over floating mountains with pizzazz. That's right: Sigourney Weaver does parkour now.
"We are starting, and now we're training for them," she said. "We're learning how to free-dive and we're doing a lot of parkour sort of stuff. It's very cool stuff, and it's a good group."

New Terminator will reveal why the T-800 looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger
“You got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold? There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outter layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumibly was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one (Arnold)? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned! We’re talking pretty seriously now about doing some new Terminator films or possibly a trilogy and you’ll just have to see what surfaces in those.”
fuck me is that going to be like that bullshit in avp how they tried to explain why bishop looked like he did?
no one, ever, asked themselves why terminator looked like arnie. they just accepted that arnie was one of many terminator models, he wasnt even skyknets first cyborg. The whole point was infiltration, it would have been retarded to have just ONE single cyborg model that everyone would be able to recognize, there had to be dozens. In the first movie, we even saw a completely different looking terminator model... and it wouldnt make sense for skynets boldest plan to win, involving the FIRST and not the LATEST model of cyborg...
Yeah that was in the link above, though I'd say that video is bullshit anyway for the reasons I said above. It's super stupid to think skynet based a design some 20 years into the future based on a human soldier, or that it's Arnie design even means anything.

I reckon we might have an unexpected answer. We already know that Arnie won't be playing the T-800 in the next movie, so there's one way to wrap it up in a Cameronian way!

Who cares?
Agreed.

- Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor, joining Arnie.
- Tim Miller (Deadpool) confirmed as director.
- Writers room to find the story of the three films: David Goyer, Charles Eglee (co-creator of Cameron's Dark Angel TV series), Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles creator & showrunner, Avatar 2)
- Films might be standalone, or they might have an overarching story. It's unknown for now.
- Will be a direct sequel to Terminator 2.
- The protagonist will be "an 18-something woman".

honestly, if cameron was director, having a central female character wouldnt bother me for a moment, hes always been able to craft solid female central characters
but the rest of hollywood? no way. shes either going to be a busty ninja martial arts badass who calls people motherfucker as shes gunning them down (totes edgy female empowerment), or a screaming helpless bitch that keeps getting into trouble. very little middleground in modern generic hollywood land.
It says that it will be a direct sequel to T2. So no reboot.
But yeah, I said it before. If Camerons isn't directing, than no point with more stupid sequels, prequels, etc.
