|
 |
So 3 promotions, 5 candidates, 3 of us handle all the big/main systems. 1 handles 1 system and the other one has a shit ton of time working there and handles important processes.
2 of the 3 handling big systems got promoted, i got left out and the guy with 1 system got the other one. Nice. He has half the time i have working there and i have so much knowledge of the business and i break my ass working. Nice, fucking nice.
I valued my work so much and others do too, but seems not the right people know of me. Ive had years of happyness recently, but this one hits too hard i guess

And that is a clear sign to look for / get a new job. Don't take shit from employers, you mean nothing to them and they owe you nothing and will pay you dogshit for as long as they can get away with it.
What I would do from here, ensure to take a 20-30 minute shit a day and have your job hunting apps primed and at the ready. I set these apps up so i can see every new listing comfortably withing 15 minutes then save that to send an application later. No one will ask questions about your shitting habits, its good to get paid to job search and the inconvenience of working for assholes. Ensure you have some work references to back you up, if you been doing a good job this is easy deuce. Apply for at least 3 really worthy jobs a day, use linked in, hit up recruiters etc.
Other pro tips,
- Get a haircut, new shirt slacks, shoes whatever you need to look the part.
- Do interviews before your normal job starts or just after, you should be able to comfortably pull this off without being late but can also easily explain any morning lateness no probs. if you wear casual clothes at your normal job then get changed to not arouse suspicion (if you care)
- NEVER and i mean NEVER, when you have found a new job and hand in your resignation take a counter offer. Fuck them, never move backwards.

Been reading around about how to proceed now, and this sounds pretty good to me, i have to have a lil confidence since ive worked there for 11 years, first job and my whole life/family lives upon this, so u can guess how nervous i get thinking about changing, but i think its time, i think i gotta try it out if i get a good offer in a trustful company. Ill start chasing that.
Ill wait to see what happens in january since all 5 of us told our boss before hand that we wouldnt feel it was fair what was gonna happen (and yep, unfair it was). So hes promising stuff for january. Meanwhile ill job hunt and maybe ill try to get a position in another area. Dont know, my head is a mess right now, i thought i was doing my best, seems not.

The fucker employer probably doesn't like you, despite your successes at your job.
@Ampeg, great tips

So much bitterness in here, lol.
Questions you need to ask yourself are, are you better than the two that got promoted, have you proved it, and do you have the leadership skills required for the job. The answers will likely surprise you.
Waste 11 years of work based on people's random advice on the internet, especially in this climate where most people have to change jobs every 2-3 years? Keep your job if it satisfies you financially, don't if you need more money. That's the only constraint to look for in a corporate job.
I find that most people start making shit up to give themselves reasons for looking someplace else, often giving up good stable employment for the promise of infinite rainbows and unicorns on the other side of the fence. It's usually the weak willed 20 somethings that haven't figured their lives out yet.

In Dutch there's a saying that basically translates into "the known evil is better than a potentially unknown one" meaning that you know your current job, you know the climate, the pitfalls and the downsides but every new job is potentially worse no matter how good it looks from the outside. Work stress, shitty colleagues, overbearing boss, horrible customers - all things you find out later.
The fact that you didn't get promoted sucks big time - I can really imagine the feeling because one of my bosses severely undervalues my work since she doesn't have a clue what stuff I do all the time and how many people rely on me - but the important question now is: did I not get promoted because I didn't do my job right OR is there some other reason why the others got promoted?
Bosses often look at other aspects besides how well you do your job: are you lenient? Does your work create problems for them? (I'm known to do that myself - I want to do my job seriously so that means my bosses have to follow suit and take on more work as a result) Perhaps they know the other employees better? Or they get a better "vibe" from them? It can be small reasons like them filling out forms a little better which make their way to them. (in my previous job, one colleague was seriously disliked by the boss for the simple reason that she was sloppy with filling out certain forms though her actual work was exemplary).
What I disagree with is to never take a counter-offer. Looking for a job is a way to show your disapproval and many companies don't like the idea of having to take on a new unknown person and having to train them all over. If you can manage to get them to realize you're looking for a way out, they may well give you a better offer without you actually having to have found a new job already.
Also, ego plays a big part here as well - bosses don't like the idea of their company not being good enough and people leaving is bad for a company's image.
Basically, play it tactical - if they still don't respond or are willing to give you merit in some way or another (a raise or promotion) then you can seriously look for a new job.
