All a console is, is a PC made up of proprietary parts. If Sony decided to make the PS5 out of a Intel CPU, an Nvidia 1080 card, 32Gb RAM and a 1TB SSD, and released it in a shiney PS5 box for £499, it would sell like you wouldnt believe.
It will NEVER happen, because consoles are designed to be entirely closed systems. Maybe, back in the day of the PS2, this was a good thing as PC gaming was always quite hit and miss, and video cards were not particularly mainstream. Now, they're as easy to buy and fit as a Nintendo game cartridge.
Consoles are now just a platform for exclusivity. Oddly enough, with Microsoft doing this odd Xbox/Windows parity thing, maybe this is the start of it... Steam Boxes might have worked, but because they are limited to Linux, it will never ever happen.
Vulkan might possibly help, but DirectX is easier.

Not that far fetched, all we need is performance parity or games running better using Vulkan then at least it offers the choice for gamers to switch. Who would have thought google, amazon and apple would come back as massive tech juggernauts and supercede net worth of MS in the mid / late 90's.
Recently Facebook told us that over 550 million people play games that are connected with Facebook every month on desktop, mobile and console, now it's hoping to grow that number with a new partnership with Unity.
"Our mission is to give people the power to discover, play and share the games they love with the people they care about," said Facebook's Leo Olebe.
"Unity is the world's leading game development platform. It's great to be working with them to help developers find new audiences for the games they pour their hearts into."
The alliance will include Facebook integration within Unity and a new PC gaming platform. Developers can apply now to be involved.
"Developers channel their talent and passion into creating amazing games, but development is only part of the challenge," added Elliot Solomon, VP of Business Development at Unity.
"Integrating tools that provide effortless access to Facebook's network is a key part of helping developers find the success they deserve."

what part about that is LOLworthy?
unity is by far the most used engine out there
i don't give a shit about facebook integration though, wtf?
It's clear. Content platforms are the deal now on the internet. Amazon has video, lumberjack is their games platform for VR. Facebook has/will have Unity and has Oculus. Valve has the Vive and Steam. Netflix and Steam kicked it off but the big companies are getting into the content sphere as much as possible. ISPs are doing it too (Vodafone, ect).
I guess they animated it at 30 and had to stick to it for some reason. Being that it's 3D, I would have assumed frames between movements could have been extended (if that makes sense).
If you trace the statement to its source it's 30-60% btw.

In total, we’ve seen a rendering performance improvement out-of-the box up to 60% using Unity – that is without having to deal with any specifics of the Vulkan API.
...
(DX12 has similar claims far as I remember, overall actual performance gains tend to be 15 maybe 20% depending on the game and it's hardware usage plus driver support and such.)
Neill Blomkamp made a short film in Unity and it looks fantastic
Quote:
District 9 director Neill Blomkamp wrote and directed a short film using the Unity game engine and it's super cool.
Blomkamp, alongside Oats Studios, created the second video in the Adam story (the first is here), which was designed to show off graphical advances made with the popular game engine.
The video below is Adam: The Mirror, which was made in real-time using Unity. In it, the amnesiac hero discovers a clue about what and who he is.
While the setup is intriguing, it's the look of the film that's most impressive. The battered sci-fi Blomkamp is known for is present and correct, and of course there are plenty of highly-detailed robots. Unity, it seems, is capable of some quite wonderful graphical effects.
Blomkamp, of course, is no stranger to the world of video games. He directed a trilogy of live-action short films in 2007 to promote the release of Halo 3, and was once set to direct the Halo feature film before the project was scrapped.
The next episode of Adam is due out soon. Perhaps one day we'll see a video game based on it.
Impressive i was hoping for a follow up since i really liked the original story and setting great they are doing more of it.
I don't even think it needs to be a game i would love a full fledged animated show.

Yea, i think Unity is way better suited for animated movies than for games.
At least there the performance doesn't seem to be an inssue. :lol.

What addons did he use and how much did he pay for them
Yeah, there was indeed a lot of additional specific VFX work and magic behind it (photogrammetry, custom add-ons for cloth and face animation and so on). Some of the shaders used will actually be part of future releases as well, pretty interesting. (actual source)
@Ankh: I was interested too but it's not available yet (for now..or maybe ever :<)
Usually these things are jaw dropping, but this doesnt look anything special tbh.
Maybe graphics not but the plot is getting mroe interesting with each demo

That's great. This Oats studio (apparently polish?) have some amazing stuff on their channel
