Kingsmen 2
Action not as fluid
Pretty fun flick but not as daring visually as the first.
First didn't feel like a comic book adaptation...
This one did... Sad
6/10

One thing I can say however, was that the locations they picked, and how hey were shot, were fucking so gorgeous you wouldn't believe it. Modern films WISHED they had locations that beautiful - that full of character.

You'd hope so. A bunch of the cast and crew later died from lung cancer because the area was full of toxic waste. Including tarkovsky Sad

Stalker for me was pretty good but I'd read Roadside Picnic beforehand so I had a better grasp of what the zone was and how volatile it is. The thought of what might happen around every corner was tense. It was very slow all said and done but every shot was so beautiful that it kept me going. 8/10

i think the problem for me was that we never really see the zone as dangerous, or are even shown enough for it to be INTERESTING to us. he talks about stuff happening, and you see him acting cautiously and diving to the ground at times.. we saw at one time a worm-hole style looping back to a previous area, and at one time a bird briefly disappears and then reappears in the distance, but nothing really happens in the film to give us any sense of what the zone is or its dangers.. nothing to justify the stalkers job, or why anyone should fear anything about it. he talks about the meat grinder as if its some fearful thing, but.. its just a tunnel, and not even a very dark one, as far as the viewer is concerned. i know of roadside picnic, and roughly what its about, but it seems to me that the zone as far as stalker goes, is a complete non-issue. a place around which to frame the discussions between characters, and honestly ANYTHING could have taken its place and been every bit as effective as far as the viewer goes.

@chiv I see why you think that and I pretty much agree with you. The movie makes it seem like the zone wasn't a big deal. It's not even really shown how proficient red is which explains their relative easy time. He's the only stalker from the beginning of the zone whos still alive IIRC.
All the "zone" moments are very subtle. I can still remember them though so thats gotta be worth something.

It all works pretty good if you know about what horrors the zone is capable of cause of roadside picnic. Not so much if you don't though Neutral

the dark tower

I didn't mind it. In fact, I kinda enjoyed it.

Throw me all your hate, I dont care, I'm untouchable

I havent read the books, and while I'm sure that theyre superior to the film in many ways, and I'm sure the films story had very little in common and that it would have been better if it was more faithful, as an outsider viewing the film on its own merits.. I was entertained.

The story was coherent, the journey made sense and was entertaining, I didnt feel anything was unreasonably random or frustratingly annoying.. I came away from it feeling a hell of a lot better than I have about a lot of recent films... and tell you the truth, the final two fights (shootout and vs the man in black) were really nicely shot and, well, cool as hell... its rare to see a satisfying shootout in movies these days, but the film certainly had style.

Yeah the film didnt feel as epic as I would have liked, and some bits maybe didnt flow as well as they could have, and at times it felt a little cheap, but this film was NOT the disaster I was expecting and led to believe... though remember, im viewing it as an outsider and on its own merits rather than as a film based on a book (again, which im sure is superior in many ways to the film)

The cast was great.. elba.. the guy is a great actor, and he was perfect for the role... matthew mc*cough*hey as the bad guy was enjoyable, and even the kid managed to not be too annoying

also, I appreciated the ending. I like when films finish their stories and leave it to any follow-up films (which, in this case, probably wont happen) to pick things up again. I was really concerned it'd end on a stupid cliffhanger, but it was nice to see a completed journey.

This was better than spider-douche homecoming, better than transformers, better than the mummy, better than pirates of the caribbean... it was one of the most enjoyable films ive seen in a while. not GREAT, but enjoyable.

So, in conclusion

Yeah, I liked it too (don't know anything about the books). It was a solid movie. Not memorable, but not trash either, a good 7/10.

I liked Bone Tomahawk. And I like Vince Vaughn's serious parts. This movie delivered drama, great acting, questionable music, bloody brawls with some extra gore, and a satisfying conclussion.

It was so depressing. Laughing

The situation, the abortionist, the slimey lawyer, the ending. Not exactly a feel good movie. I guess he had to match Bone Tomahawk.

I liked the fights though, they weren't flashy, the opposite actually, they were kind-of clumsy. The gore effects weren't the most convincing, especially the head explosion, but boy were they meaty and fun to watch.

Just a solid story with good acting, soundtrack and characters you sympathize with.

It probably won't win any awards but it's just a well made movie. And Jeremy Renner is such a good actor imo.

The Dark Tower - 6/10

Not that bad - just bland (at least partly due to extensive re-editing it went through after it screened terribly, I'm sure).

Elba was very good, McConaughey was excellent, Kim was great too. The kid was alright.

The film begged to be more gritty and less PG-13 fantasy... and the CGI pew pew with Jedi powers was just bad in the end. WTF. Sad

damn dirty apes 3: war for the planet of the apes

i read on the imdbs that someone said it was a really slow boring movie and there really is no war in the thing.

agree on the first part.. its quite slow
disagree on the second part, its not boring.

and.. well yeah i semi-agree on the no war thing. I think like a lot of people who watched the trailer, I was expecting an action packed movie about the final war between apes and man.
 Spoiler:

The trailer really did not give, in my opinion, an accurate impression of the type of film this was going to be.

NOT that i mind. I actually really enjoyed the bulk of it. This was not an action movie, Id say this was more of a drama film, with some really impressive emotional touches and some great scenes. The humans were barely even relevant, it was all about the ape society and their journey. In fact, the only bit I felt I didnt really enjoy very much, was the last 30 or so minutes
 Spoiler:

but these bits were... well apart from the colonel bit, pretty minor problems with what was a primarily really solid and enjoyable dramatic film. with monkeys.

If you want action, the second film delivers. If you want a satisfying conclusion (though, who knows if it is, but it feels like a solid place to cap this chapter off) to the ape journey (though not the human one, thats for sure), then this film gives that in spades.

I will say its a pity though. Even though I liked what I got, I cant help but WISH we could have had an actual full on WAR movie... the last thousands of humans vs 10s of thousands of apes, in a brutal, full on war film... man that would have been something to see.

A very mediocre movie with wasted characters and some missing plot points. If you read Jo Nesbo you will hate it.

Worth bearing in mind that both the KORSUB and WEB-DL releases are missing some scenes.

Full version will be out in a week or two.

How so? I watched the trailer last week and I instantly thought it looked like crap and that I wouldn't even bother downloading it. Not even cool guy Fassbender could stop me from getting that impression.

Big Hero 6

Pretty much: ok. Funny, heartwarming, actionpacked, etc. Story was painfully predictable, but these days that's hardly new, movies can rarely surprise with their twists, we've seen it all. The only new thing we can expect is the presentation, not the content. With that in mind, this was a success in my book.

I've only seen some screengrabs from this one before, was waaaay under my radar (tend to be the case for most Disney films these days, only get around to watching them when there's absolutely nothing else), so I had no idea it will be a superhero flick, instead of the boy-and-his-robot-pal movie I expected (the title makes more sense now, tho).

EDIT: oh, and the Stan Lee painting was a nice touch, glad to see it paid off in the end. Smile
