On star trek discovery all that stuff they put out there to seem politcially correct seem forced.
This is why:
Peta situation:
For me and prolly for most ppl the main character isnt relatable. In the first couple episodes doing all that bullshit acting like having a stick up her ass doing her ego clash thingies all the time while then suddenly being a empthatic character that tries to save an alien monster doggy just doesnt make her sympathetic to me out of a sudden.
It seems tacked on.
Gay interraical couple scientist thing:
the scientist suddenly does some kind of self sacrifice thingy for the alien being while not showing any remorse or good character traits until up that very moment.
Being a jerk and clash of ego thingy with michael and others he seemd more of a jerk than anything else. but we now suddenly have to like him because without any logical reason he got himseld shish kebabed in that jump spore room and him being in a "caring" realtionship they just prove and show with 1 single tooth brush scene has to make him a good person right?
This all seems so much bs. seriously. This is not how character progression is supposed to work lol.
These things that show political correctness or diversity all seem tacked on(It doesn't fit the charactersand it's too sudden)
That's why I at least dislike it and that's why people might think it's the part of an agenda. (It's like the baldurs gate dragon's spear of tv series atm)
Orville did it much much better.
Dunno if you watched it butfor example the baby sex change episode had a "bad" ending.
It wasn't a happy resolution but a more realistic one that's why that for example didn't seem tacked on or forced at all.

I found the gay thing as badly done as the Klingon romance... fuck sake have these people never experienced a relationship or love (or any emotion that is not verified by the twitterverse first)?
And that cringy science bit of the three in front of a screen... I felt it was a genuine CSI moment.
Too bad the tardigrade isn't there to be nipple twisted into a jump. Always had me laughing how they handled that.
Maybe in a few epi's its so bad that it becomes good, we're nearly there.

How is the gay thing any more cringeworthy than the shitty relationships in the older ST shows? Is it because it's two men now? I don't like the engineer because I think it's a very shitty character, but him talking with his boyfriend like that didn't seem weird at all to me.
Why did Michael save the creature? Maybe all the oppressed human emotions due to her Vulcan training make her more prone to extreme emotions. As for the engineer doing what he did, I think he did it because he wanted it. I doubt he gave a shit about the animal. They keep showing he's an insensitive dick.
Cosidering the amount of cringe and cheese the older ST shows had during their first season(s), you'd think this show would get some chance to grow. Whether it fails or succeeds, I sure am glad something is spending big bucks on scifi. It's fucking stupid since scifi fans have extremely high standards, but I'm still glad someone is trying.

You're veeeery forgiving here.
And to answer your question: this is simple not the right way to introduce characters. You first "establish" them and THEN you give them more range. Right now, it feels as if they're all over the place and that makes it very hard to connect with them leading to the viewer to feel disconnected from the story which is exactly what is happening if I can go by most people's opinions. So far, I've yet to hear anyone say the main character is interesting - most find her dull and/or weird.

It's interesting to see the huge gap between what critics think and what the audience thinks, though:
ST:Discovery:
- critics: 74%
- viewers: 46%
Orville:
- critics: 36%
- viewers: 82%
There's a HUGE discrepancy there - especially when you look at the lowest scores Orville receives - several 10%'s which is ridiculous. The lowest score Discovery receives is 55% while the HIGHEST score Orville receives is 58%.

How is it about them being gay when in the same sentence I say the same about the Klingons. Don't be silly, it was to identify or should I say the romance between the two men not to get triggered?
It's about the bad writing, two empty characters not developed enough put together in an awkward way. For what, a pat on the back?

You will be surprised but the utopia that the Star Trek Universe depicts IS NOT A FASCIST ONE
The people of earth, no matter what gender, belief or anything came together and work together

That scene where he fights the captain then doesn't make sense. Or that he basically gave up and was ready to be left behind.

valid points if the writing of the show was good. even the characters here are inconsistent.

Strange mix of science and esoteric pseudoscience, it's walking a thin line. Not sure what to make of it yet.

Getting close to dropping this show tbh, there is just so much wrong here. Even if i pretend it has nothing to do with Star Trek universe at all, this is just not very good sci-fi:
Characters:
MichaelB = why bother with this human / vulkan thing, there are so far no vulkan char traits whatsoever in her character.
New Alien Guy = 100% human character that looks like an alien.
Captain = sort of unlikable.
Science Guy = unlikable.
Overly enthused red head cadet = zzzz
Klingons = annoying slow subtitled klingon talk is so fucking annoying, they are just mindless killers now.
When they try talk science it sounds bad which is unusual like they are trying too hard to make it seem real.. can't believe this thing has been renewed to be honest, even the terrible boy scout enterprise was better viewing.
