Yup, had the same issue. Especially when there was alot of fog and stuff... had to set it all to medium and now it's fine. It's weird though, only when foggy stuff is on the screen, the framerate tanks. The bombed city was almost unplayable in some parts. In others it was stuck on 60fps on ultra no problem....

Didn't figure out exactly which setting is causing it because it's annoying as hell to restart the game everytime you make changes... so I couldn't be bothered anymore and just keep playing on medium.

Well, if you want to fuck with it, let me know if you figured out which setting is the cause of it Razz (might be particles, not sure though).

Ah mate, that's exactly the same issue word by word as you mentioned. The frame rate takes a nose dive as soon as smoke is rendered on screen. Else it maintains 60 frames, at least the in game counter says so. I had to switch to Medium as well for playable frame rates. I'm on an older driver too. Do let me know if you're able to test it with the latest one. Thanks!

Okay, sadly, the driver did jackshit for me. Same issue. I'm now gonna go into the "re-start the game" marathon to figure out which setting is causing this. (My current bets are on the "image streaming quality" setting in relation to the 970 VRam controversy)

What this tells me though is one of these posibilities...

#1 My PC is just falling apart due to age and abuse...
#2 The game is triggering the 970 VRam issue on higher settings...
#3 It's indeed the i5 2500K showing it's age...
#4 The game just doesn't like something in my hardware combination...

It's 970 vram. I have 2500k and 1060 6gb and I am running the game at mein leben setting at 1080p max aa, about 100 or more fps

The machineguns feel unsatisfying for sure, but the exploding guns and laser guns are neat.

Yup, it is the 970's VRam in combination with the "Image streaming" setting. Made the most sense and is the case and can confirm now. Got everything pretty much maxed now except for Image-Streaming. Currently went with medium, gonna give high a try in a minute.

*EDIT* Allright, Image Streaming = High also works, no fps drops. Good enough I guess.

It's just a shame that it only starts tanking fps at Ultra when looking at static mist/fog in the levels. Everything else doesn't even produce this issue. No explosion or higher amount of other particle effects. It's just the mist/fog they are using.

@Shawn_Hunter
You can pretty much go apeshit with all the settings except for "Image Streaming". Has to be High/Medium or the 970's VRAM starts to puke all over your performance Very Happy

*EDIT* Scracht "High"... stick to "Medium" with "Image Streaming."

Yep. Stuck with 'Medium' for now. Though, I have to say that the game still looks amazing even with Medium settings. I'll check if I can mess around with a few settings myself and report back if I can track the source of these frame drop triggers.

Strange, not a single crash here. Also have a 970GTX (385.41), Windows 10 (without the latest fall creators update), 16GB DDR3, Xeon 1231v3

I'm in New York up against some giant robot in the city streets, and performance has been very solid. Everything is at the highest setting, except for reflections on ultra and image streaming at one below the highest setting. The framerate went down a bit in the city, but apart from that solid 60+

Geforce users, get hotfix driver!

Was getting BSOD without it, by just alt-tabing back to game, 100% of the time without it.

Well I'm using 387.92 and it runs ok without crashes. It's a bit choppy for some reason and it doesn't seem that smooth the movement but I assume that's just bad coding or driver issues.

I remember the first one surprised me with how good the writing/characters/VA were. This one is surprising me with how lackluster the writing and characters are. VA is still good and it has it's moments but so far.. meh.

Just tried that hotfix with a clean installation.
PC is not crashing anymore, but it instead after several alt+tabs the game window freezes and stays focused. Can't even close it via Task manager as it's just hidden.

What a fucking shit is that men.

Read my post again and you notice it didn't really change anything.

And it's mostly positive reviews:

And most of the negative ones are by germans because of some uncut problem.

Did they take on-board anything that was well received from Doom in design of this game? or is this usual modern fps i.e extremely overscripted, regenerating health, straight line levels?

No its worse. It's spam E for 1 armor and health packs etc. And then it's a tiny area every time with two commanders and normal soldiers that you have to kill. After you do that you get some chatter and you move to the next tiny area and do the same thing. And then after you get a long ass cutscene again.

Theres a reason the game has like 10.000 players online. Same as Black dessert online for example. Barely any.

Ah and lets not forget its about 3-5 hours. And cutscenes are long as fuck.

Did you get motion sickness from the first game as well?
I mostly get motion sickness from third person games with big ass player models personally, games like Dead Space or Resident Evil 5 where hell, Hellblade i played recently was fine for some reason.
The last fps i remember getting really sick from was the original Doom in the 90s Laughing

Sounds good to me i started the first game over the weekend and it's pretty much like that as well, granted i'm a storyfag and more into action adventures then real fps, new Doom was allrdy a bit too oldschool for me with it's focus on action without much story around it.

What he wants to say, yes it's similar. You have small areas with enemies and as long as you don't take out the officers, more and more soldiers turn up. Different type of enemies are mixed over time and require you to change your approach. You can still climb around and jump, have an extreme high speed but health is limited and enemies dont drop it. Your health regenerates itself only up to 10hp.

I got motion sickness because I played too much Wolfenstein 3-D on that arcade machine within the game xD
