the download urls of the esds used are hardcoded in the tool, thats a bit stupid, but it allows you to build every version you need (though those persons who could need that have technet access which offers all isos directly...)

and nope sorry, no idea. not using chrome, but havent heard any problems like that before

using opera since years (mouse gestures ftw), as alternative to that check out vivaldi. firefox is overloaded crap anyway. since both are based on chromium almost all extensions will work (though opera and vivaldi have their own extension "stores")

to be sure to have the newest mct version? just download it from ms, its always the latest version there windows.com/download or whatever the url was, just google media creation tool. and if you right click the file -> preferences (dunno if its really preferences, always used german language on any windows since 3.11), in details it should show the build number as version number

This is fucking shit. I've liked windows 10 since it came out but with this latest update it's a piece of overbloated crap... makes me wish to go back to windows 7...

I've installed win10 with latest iso 2x today and always something went wrong.. granted, it takes 5 minutes to install from usb3 stick but still...

First times I've installed it with network cable plugged in. the fucking piece of shit downlaods minecraft, candy crush saga, facebook and tons of shit. Sure, I've deleted it but then the pc infinitely hanged on when restarting on "preparing updates".
After restarting, all of start menu was fucked... I gave up since I am only satisfied with super clean windows installation.
And the store does not work on Poland region. It just shows some error...

On another go, I've unplugged ethernet cable and installed with US region set.
I've deleted all apps before they could download and prepared everything. Then after plugging the cable, fucking windows update store downloaded a ton of updates and store downloaded updates for ALL apps 3 times. Once in US region and then redownloaded again in polish region twice for some reason And I don't even want any of it!!!!
Why does the fucking calculator and photos app have so many updates...

I am staying with it as it is and hoping they will update the iso and then reinstall.

Edit: And fucking hell - I still cannot make chrome run in background no matter what. I am starting to believe it's chrome fault (even after updating to beta) since edge works fine

Seems I've found out what is causing the minimize/maximize playback glitch in chrome.
It's webGL. only disabling hardware acceleration helps.
But that is only on fall shit update. on my fiancee not updated netbook it all works fine with same chrome version

Every since this CU update my network doesnt identify and i have to troubleshoot until it doesnt say valid IP, would apreciate some help with this if you guys know of a fix? After a few troubleshooting fix and reboots it eventualy identifies.. but takes a long ass time each time i boot the pc..

what device does you pc connect to? Does your network have dhcp? If so, how does dora goes?

If dora fails at certain phase, you could always switch to static ip addressing, just be careful to use proper masking and choose a unique ip on your network.

Also: nic drivers are up to date?

Win 10 Pro 64bit, Fall creators update.

Is it normal to have this "WMI Provider host" process, always running and using the cpu ?

This is the only process running in the background, 24/7, which takes some cpu usage.

All other processes are at 0% cpu usage.

JBeckman any tips?

Yeah there's usually one or two of those depending on what other tasks are running. Smile

Something like that can be used to trace it but the task consuming a small bit of CPU when the PC is idle isn't much of a issue though it can be interesting to see what is invoking it but it's usually another OS process, such as running Windows Update for example. Smile

It also self terminates after a while if no processes dependent on it are running similar to say COM Surrogate which also tends to have one or more processes open when using the task manager.

My windows update stopped working. I ran the troubleshooter which always finds 2 issues and "fixes" them (something of pending updates, and update database corruption). Now I found that "sfc /scannow" finds nothing. However DISM ... /ScanHealth says my components store is repairable, which is a strange way to say that something is amiss Laughing, but /RestoreHealth fails and needs a working image source. How do I get an image?

I am in the process of using the media creation tool, but I fear that it might download the creators update fall fuck up edition ...

oh wow, starting to think this machine is thoroughly problematic. Can't update windows, chrome (!) and now this for creating an ISO

Well if it helps, I'm using it already and working in it, without any problems after having freshly installed. The problem you may have is regarding drivers that may be are yet to be released or some software that are still in the process of releasing their corresponding updates. In that case, feel free to use Device Manager updates to get the latest drivers from Microsoft.

Besides, my main machine cant obtain any non-corrupt version, because of the error in the image above and my 2nd machine has < 8 GiB disk space on C: left, so the media creation tool cannot download an image either Laughing

To me no (feature?) updates is just the inverse problem of forced updates. I want control over it, just saying no to everything is false control imo.

No I do prefer windows for home and entertainment use. And while I admit that updates so far were not too exciting, I still want them. Hope and stuff Laughing. I did use bash a bit though.

Dual booting or anything of the sort would just make the individual limits even more apparent and would just frustrate the living heck out of me. Virtualization is a better option, if performance allows it...
