well to be honest encryption can be hacked, even stuff like Truecrypt.. so you could also see it as hackers are powerful even in 2049.. or maybe more realistic, that encryption is illegal (unless authorized by the government), not too far fetched.

I think they could have done so much more with the protagonist, they could have made it quite emotional with his loneliness for example. When he was hugging the hologram i was expecting his arms to just go though it, to emphasise on the sadness of it, that could have been quite powerful or even kind of poetic..

Wind River 7/10. Jeremy Renner is like aways great, very simplistic overall but well directed.

Mummy 2017- 3.5
What a boring clusterfuck of a movie. Even Tom Cruise couldn't save it.

Brick 2005 - 7.5
A really decent hard boiled noir.

Blade Runner 2049 - 9/10

Loved it. Insanely atmospheric and simply stunning in terms of visuals. Competent plot - it might not be terribly original, but it isn't a copy pasta either. It does the job done. Superb acting too.

Music volume seemed off to the point of being almost hurtful at times, however. That really wasn't necessary. The score itself complimented the movie well enough, however.

It's less subtle and nuanced and the bad guy feels to bond-like at times, but in some regards it actually surpasses the original (atmosphere, world design especially).

This is how sequels after the years should be done.

High-Rise (2015) 6.5/10

Dystopian/sci fi about people living inside a skyscraper, and its miniature representation of society (poor living in lower floors, upper class living in the highest) and how basically every gets crazy at night "partying".
Based on a book from the 1970's, so it's dated in the sense that there's no internet (or really any other technologies). This makes the behaviour of the people seem awkward and unrealistic, as people today just aren't that social anymore Laughing
But when viewed as an alternate universe/post-apocalyptic thing (there's no real background given about the rest of the world and society), the story still works. Really strange movie, but somehow keeps you engaged to see what will happen next.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

How so? I watched the trailer last week and I instantly thought it looked like crap and that I wouldn't even bother downloading it. Not even cool guy Fassbender could stop me from getting that impression.

Great cast, great director, beautiful filming locations (Oslo/Bergen), thriller story based on a very good book.

How so, you say?!

War for the Planet of the Apes - 7/10

A good conclusion to the trilogy, it managed to stay true to the theme without falling into easy hollytentations. Despite some forced plot devices that went bananas and suspicious timings, there was a solid atmosphere, feels, slow-paced suspense, even Colonel Woody's storyline was surprisingly meaningful.

Honorable mention goes to the CGI, as per tradition the quality was high and the expressivity of the apes was top-notch (Maurice felt damn real Very Happy), though that would probably differ if we were the apes judging the movie. Rogue One (second viewing). Had to watch it in 3D on my projector, it tends to look better than in the cinema here. Very happy with the 3D, good depth and some scenes looked really fantastic. The ending is the weak point with all the pew-pew, but the space battles makes up for it, they look really great. Not as good as the ep3-6, but a strong 8/10.

Indiana Jones & Crystal Skull

6/10

Saw it at the movie theatre when it first got released and walked out with mixed feelings. Since then I watched all the other Indy movies several times over but no this one. So yesterday I decided to give it a second chance after all.

It's kind of hard to explain exactly what is wrong about the movie since a lot of it is so similar to bits & pieces of the previous movies but I think what used to be enjoyable filler between the truly brilliant bits, has now become the entire movie. There's no really stand-out scenes that really make me smile and go "yeah, that's Indiana Jones!". Every scene that kind of comes close, isn't done well enough like the scene with the snake and the rope. It feels off. Marcus' head flying off the statue is probably the best part of the first half but compared to the Last Crusade, this feels like a cheap knock off.

Also, the entire truck in the jungle scene goes on for way too long and combines too many incredulous elements like the huge saw blade, the vines, the monkeys, the ants, the cliff, the waterfalls ... it's just too much! The previous Indy movies had some such scenes but in this movie they really pile it on too thickly.

Dont know about 3D, never liked it myself but going to the local theater and then later watching same thing in HDR at home is so much better in every way.
Makes the theater feel a bit "meh".

Cars 3

Meh. IMDB scores be damned, I think this was worse than cars 2. Pixar is going all bioware n' shit, with the sassy Mexican "girls can do anything" main character, and even a verrryy cliche "faaabulously" fruity gay character that had to fight for their right to race..

Super disappointing.. Pixar used to make movies, not social justice agenda films.

The characters were piss poor.lightning -even though he's still technically the lead, always feels like he's pushed into the background for the sake of promoting the new female character, and given that the film is supposed to be his journey, that's just massively disappointing. All the old favourites are barely touched on (though it's good to see they finally found the correct amount of screen time for fucking mater...), even the bad guy is so woefully underdeveloped to the point of being irrelevant. Hicks from the first film had as much screen time as the bad guy in this, but did SO much more with it, and was so brilliantly written and acted compared to the guy in this.

Movie only comes alive during the reeeaallyy really good demolition derby segment, and there were a few funny bits (though that was more down to the quality of the line delivery rather than dialog itself).. but even without the bioware'ing nonsense, the core story was both predictable and lazy. To be expected though, given how Pixar overextend themselves these days, pushing for quantity over quality...

My son watched Cars 3 and thought it was ok although 2 was eshhh... but 1 is fantastic. Guess this is a case of the sequels just not living up to the original which is pretty much most series. This ain't no Toy Story which is brutally successful - I mean, how much could they do with "Talking Cars"? Razz

Atomic Blonde (2017)

7/10

+ great camera work
+ good soundtrack
+ nice setting
+ sexy Theron . Very Happy

- shitty story
- bad pacing

The trailer was very misleading.. I expected a sexy John Wick 1 action parody film instead I got something else entirely and what's worse it wasn't that good..

Shit script, bad pacing and trying way too hard with it's soundtrack.
Acting was good, fightscenes were good, It looked good if you're into this hip neo world drowned by blue filters (I'm not)... quite a drag to get through.
