The Long Road Home (2017)

Quote:

Based on Martha Raddatz's bestseller, "The Long Road Home" chronicles the events of April 4th, 2004, when a platoon was ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad, in an attack that came to be known as "Black Sunday."

Starring: Michael Kelly, Jason Ritter, Kate Bosworth, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jeremy Sisto, Noel Fisher, Jon Beavers, E. J. Bonilla, Jorge Diaz, Ian Quinlan, Darius Homayoun and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Premiere: November 7

Just watched the first 2 episodes, started slow but it got very dynamic from the very first episode. I think all 8 episodes will be out soon as Web-DL / Webrip.

On a side note: dayuuuum I almost didn't recognize Jeremy Sisto Very Happy

Based on the the first episode it's pretty shit actually. It's like a fucking recruitment video. Black and white bullshit.

Not sure if its much of a recruitment video, seems like its just a endless string of fuck ups from the americans side.
Bit strange that they seem to be doing many of the same mistakes they did in the "black Hawk Down" incident, thought they learned some lessons.

But its indeed rather onesided, besides some talk from a local family and an interpreter, all the iraqis are just faceless badeguys who just shoot and die. (only seen 3 eps, so that could change, i guess) Each episode has had 1 soldier as its focus so far, they could have an ep that focused on the opposition aswell later.)

The worst problem is that it doesnt have any suspense to it, you lack that claustrophic feeling of beeing stuck in a hostile city with everyone out to kill you that Black Hawk Down (movie) did much better.

The acting and action scenes are also lacklustre.

Well it is the Americas, I expect it from shows these days especially so with the Army. It is after all a place of indoctrination.

That being said, this one doesn't interest me. So unless it gets some good reviews I'll forget about it. :>

I watched this, apparently in this war the soldiers spent most of the time crying and having nervous breakdowns. It's just too safe and boring for a show like that.
Insecure shit talk, racist jokes and macho behaviour that's also part of warfare but the show has none of it.
