Battle Chef Brigade features fantasy chefs, including Orcs, Elves, and Humans, who need to hunt dangerous monsters for ingredients. With those ingredients, before the critical eye of the judges, the chefs create culinary masterpieces in an intense tournament. Battle Chef Brigade pairs one part combo-based action hunting and one part puzzle-based cooking, all as the round clock ticks down.

Quote:
Trinket Studios' promise for Battle Chef Brigade is "fantasy Iron Chef." If all goes according to plan, you will be able to enter the battle pantry, slay a dragon, and bring its tasty meat back to the kitchen for preparation. Afterward, your pan-seared, herb-crusted fillet of dragon will face tasting and judging by a panel of experts. It's a three-stage cooking contest that will let you experience the thrills of creature combat alongside creative cooking.
All this monster slaying will go down in the battle pantry. Like the rest of the game, the battle pantry is a work in progress, but the team has several ideas on how this arena could function. You may be able to snack on collected items--instead of bringing them back to your kitchen--for a quick boost in power, or jockey against other chefs who invade the pantry for the best ingredients. When your pouch is full, you will return to your kitchen and turn these disparate items into a delicious dish.
For Trinket Studios, letting you put your own spin on a recipe is extremely important. Good food follows a checklist, but great food knows when to deviate. "We're currently finding a balance between predetermined recipes and adding your own personal flair," said Eastman. "For instance, you can make a pie--and that's not especially complicated--but in that pie you could add fruit or meat or make it into some weird fruit-meat-seafood pie. We want to allow that, and then have the judges give you points. We don't want you to just be locked into predetermined recipes."
Battle Chef Brigade's food pairings are pulled from a combination of real-world ingredients and high-fantasy foodstuffs--from water and flour to eyeball eggs and unicorn horn shavings. This combination of real and imaginary has many advantages for the team. "The fantasy wrapper lets us have ingredients that people don't know intimately," explained Eastman. "We can say that dragon meat is tough and people will accept it, whereas if you have a chicken, people know what that's supposed to feel like." This is a cooking game after all, not a cooking simulation.
"We figure that the more real-life recipes we have, the more assumptions people will have about how things are made," Huang added. "We don't want people having to question why the judges didn't like their mom's lasagna recipe, or their grandma's apple pie. If you're dealing with new ingredients, then everyone is on the same page, whether you're a professional chef or just a kid. You're all learning this new world together."

Publisher Adult Swim Games and developer Trinket Studios have announced Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC. It will launch on August 28. While this is the first time Battle Chef Brigade is appearing on PlayStation 4, Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe will be available as a free update to users who already own the game on Switch and PC.
Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe introduces Chef Ziggy and a “smorgasbord of extra modes” to the base game. Here are some details:
Before we get into the fresh new Deluxe additions, here’s a recap for novice chefs. Battle Chef Brigade combines combo-based hunting with puzzle-based cooking in a hand-drawn, fantasy adventure. In the campaign, you play as Mina and Thrash, cooking your way into the Brigade while subduing Victusia’s destructive monsters. Battle Chef Brigade is a crazy chocolate burrito sushi spicy burger full of innovative, unique flavors you’ve never tried, much less together. We know you’ll love it on the first bite!
New in Deluxe: Ziggy, the Undead Necromancer
Ziggy is the most mysterious and possibly unsanitary chef in Battle Chef Brigade. He has a lazy streak and relies heavily on his summoned minions. His sous skeletons lead the way, with rolling pins and pans, his imps carry ingredients to the pantry, and his turret-like demons take care of any stragglers. Of course, a good Battle Chef can’t always rely on magical help and, when necessary, Ziggy knows how to take care of business. A few breakdance-style kicks and a spin or two are enough to prep any monster for the kitchen. We had an incredible time designing him and can’t wait for you to slide into battle as Ziggy.
Local Multiplayer Added
In a game centered on intense hunting and cooking duels, multiplayer kicks it up a notch. We drew inspiration from fighting games, brawlers, and our couch-based childhoods to make dueling your friends and enemies perfect. Wait for your opponent to kill the Dragon and then swipe its spicy steak for yourself! There’s a buffet of options and items to choose from, including quite a few new ones for Deluxe, such as Ziggy’s Grill, Bony Tongs, and Carnivorous Expertise.
Side dishes
We’ve added a lot more replayability and polish for Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe.
Here are some of the additions:
New Survival Mode: A speedy arcade mode where a death in the arena ends your run. Each win lets you pick from an assortment of items as you conquer the leaderboards.
New Free Play Mode: Practice hunting in any biome and crafting the 120+ dishes. This is the place to perfect your combos and analyze each ecosystem.
New Gallery: As you level up your Brigade Rank with Survival runs and bouts in the updated Daily Cook-Offs, you unlock gorgeous concept art.
New maps: Enter the Darkrealm in Daily Cook-Off, Free Play, Survival, and Multiplayer!
New Challenges: Ziggy gets his own pair of Break the Dishes stages.
Accessibility Improvements: We’ve added color-blind options, updated fragile state art, and let you fast-forward through duel introductions.
Thrash Buffs: Everyone’s favorite father of two has a much-improved Counter, better Berserk timer, and speed tweaks.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
