Finished it... was ok but too much action compared with season one I believe. Think the original gained from letting things breathe now and again every few eps, this season feels like rapid fire.
I sometimes wished Americans knew when to call quits. Instead of ending things on a high note, they always insist on churning out more and more and more until ratings are so bad, they have to cancel and it really means very few series get a decent ending and most series end up so bad, it makes the initial first seasons look worse too.
The first season could have stood on its own and been a perfect classic. Now the second season is OK but lost some of its magic. Too much of it so far (watched the first 5 episodes) is just showing viewers what happened after the first season and that makes for far less interesting plot lines.
The first season opened with a bang followed by a slow revelation of what happened and was happening and that made for very interesting TV. The second is just a slow continuation with little surprises so far. When they announced a second season, I expected them to have a slightly more interesting plot line than what I'm seeing so far. It's not bad by any means, but it does pale in comparison with the first season.
Second season is obviously a set up for the coming two seasons i think they did fine considering that, this is isn't Walking Dead there are 4 Seasons planned and that's it so it's probably best to judge the whole story after it's done.
Wow, I'm enjoying this season so much more than the previous one! Just finished episode 5 and I think it was the best episode since the show started!
Enjoyed it a lot as well and can't wait for the next season, it's obviously not as self contained as the first season since they didn't even really know if there would be a second season back then but i think it was great as a sequel and set up for the next two seasons.
This is how tv shows should be. Loved this season as much as the first one and I bet that this will one of the very few series I'll recommend my children to watch in 20 more years.
Of course, the first season was different in the way already stated. But still, best show I've seen this year (and the last year, season one was the best show too).
Season got so good in the second half I had to binge watch the 4 reamining episodes, and I very rarely do that with any tv series
Can't wait for the next season, it's going to be a painful wait, but maybe something good will come from the House of Cards cancellation (more time and resources) and the third season comes sooner than expected?
Good to read at least one positive comment.. can't say i thought the first episode was anything great to be honest.. was almost about to skip it, but i think i'll watch it
Good season, obviously the surprise of the first season is gone. I didn't like all of the relationship drama and it seemed to me like they introduced a character just to kill later on. I also didn't care about the Max girl and her brother drama.
-Jonathan/Nancy relationship was shoehorned into plot and it felt awkward. The cunt would have been knuckled deep in the friendzone. People enjoyed season 1 because the nerd doesn't always get the girl.
-It takes three episodes for the convoluted plot to begin. In season 1 we are introduced to the threat in 10 minutes.
-Will is now cured. Just turn on a few heaters and you are cured. They should have had Jane/Eleven kill Will.
- Quit with the Disney level of cheese. Feeding the dog chocolate etc... If only they knew you could have fed chocolate to the demogorgon in season 1.
-Episode 7: Cheers for the X-Men rehash.
-What was the point of the mother sending Jane to see the Suicide Squad? She wanted her daughter to hook up with a bunch of killers?
- Took me few episodes to get into.
- Still love the characters.
- Wish the story was as consistent and tight as S01.
- Can be very, very entertaining when things take off.
- Liked the end climax.
- Hoping for a more stronger story and more stronger(I mean with more depth) antagonists in the future seasons.
It was okay, not good, just okay until the last ep...That was just pure shit. As stated above, some idiotic Disney logic. Just totally spoiled everything.
S1 was pretty good. Finished watching S2 in the past weekend and it felt sometimes like not nearly as good as S1 was. And the fact that episode 7 felt more like filler crap.. Overall it felt more like the same, just worse. Would score it a 6-7 out of 10. Will give S3 a try and that will prolly either make me stop watching it or not.
im not happy. i liked maybe.. 30% of this season. I liked the hopper/jane stuff, i liked the dart stuff, and to a lesser extent the possession of will stuff... oh, and who doesnt like samwise... but everything else fell super flat.
ive always said season 1 had pretty average to poor writing, and this season was significantly worse. They added new characters, but that just meant the talent pool for writing these characters was now stretched even further. I kinda understood the point of the 'new girl', but what was the brother for? yeah hes racist and mean, but to what end? Are we supposed to think he was even MORE bad when he revealed his racism? because somehow we didnt think he was enough of an asshole? i feel like he only existed as a means for the writers to punish steve for whatever reason. Maybe the lead writer got picked on by jocks at school or something? And what even was the fucking point of the black kids shithead sister. couldnt we have traded her in for.. i dunno.. an extra 5% depth in the other characters?
and then we have nancy. oh, nancy.. how fucking annoying you are.
the first season actually... even though it was full of shit writing.. actually did something really interesting. It subverted the usual highschool romance drama shit in a surprising and fucking pleasant way. It created a shitty, superficial girl, had her fall blindly in love with the asshole jock... and then whats supposed to happen is she finds out hes an asshole who is only using her as a trophy or whatever, and then hooks up with the geeky guy... but holy shit, in the first season it turns out that he actually not only loves her to the point of telling his other friends to piss off, but is actually a standup guy who shows up and backs her up when she needs it most... and they end up together. jesus christ, some solid ideas and writing! i was so super happy those two got the ending they did in season 1.
and then this season, nope, cliche bullshit... she ends up with the geeky brother in the most cringeworthy and awkward of scenarios ripped right out of the most pathetic and cringeworthy generic hollywood stories. I hated her in this. her and that loser she hooked up with. #teamsteve. Steve, i find, is probably the most interesting and coolest character in the damn show... and they really shat on the poor guy super hard this season... stripped him of the girl he loved, and stripped him of his top-dog position at school... and i cant see how it contributed to his character in any meaningful way. Whatever, steve rocks, nancy is a fucking whore. bitch
but i think worst of all... all these cool ideas from the first season, and new ones from the second.. went nowhere. The shitty lazy random writing from the first season was 'kinda' charming... we accepted that there were mysteries, but trusted we'd uncover more and build on the story in season 2.
season 2 shows us just how either out of ideas they are, or how indifferent they are to the narrative they built. Super unsatisfying..
ill watch a third season, but what ive seen from season 1 and 2 tells me that season 3 will be poorly written, kinda boring, and overall this is NOT a tv show worthy of keeping on my hdd, or worthy of the frankly ridiculous praise its getting.
Spoiler:
oh, and as someone who watched whatever season of 24 that samwise was in, i knew there was no way in hell he was surviving heroically going out on his own to save everyone...
i dont think its fair at all, given that aliens was a great film but stranger things 2 really wasnt that good and was a damn sight worse than season 1. not 'different' in style, just through and through 'worse'.
this is more like.. i dunno... the resident evil series of games? where the first ones had character but were a little dumb... and then the subsequent games because bigger and more derpy, and the writing got worse and worse.
basically, youre going to have to wait for season 7 for this show to stop sucking.
ALSO fuck you, alien 3 was really good plagued by issues, but still head a shoulders above most films, and definitely worthy of being part of the franchise. it wasnt until the filthy fucking french got their hands on it that things went bad
S2E1.. Many failed attempts at comedy aside, this was a strong return.
Cinematography though looks a lot more modern and digital than what they attempted for season 1 - IIRC.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
They should have ended it after S01... I did not like S02.
So much time spent on trivial nonsense just to tie things up... and it wasn't even clever.
Irritating teen love story, sloppy writing. It was all over the place tbh. Steve and the kids amused me, rest not so much. But yeah, felt like they didn't really know what to do with it.
After some unforeseen struggles I finally managed to arrive at the Snow Ball, the ride wasn't as smooth as I thought and the demo-dogs had already joined the party. Last year it took me less than two days to devour the first season (one of the fastest bingewatching sessions I ever had, a flawed yet very gripping ride), but with this second one I actually struggled a bit, even an entire week still felt too much at times. *nosebleeds*
The music, kids and actual 80s atmosphere were just as good as usual. The pacing, story and how it evolved throughout the episodes though were a definite step back for me, with considerably less mystery involved, sprinkles of teen romance and practically no interesting subplots (nor new characters). I'd lie if I said that I didn't enjoy it, but there was an undeniable sense of flabbiness, difficult to pinpoint or isolate..The Strain..ger Things xD
I feel like a boost in the writing department is a necessity now more than ever if they really want to keep things interesting and strangererer in the long run, the poor berries can't last forever and signs of their magical effect wearing off are evident.
I have ~2 episodes left, i really like it. Probably not as good as first season due to "same old", but it still holds up extremely well. If i'd give S1 a 8.5 this would be something like a weak 8 so far. I guess it depends on how you decide to look on it.. it's meant to be cheesy and they use 80's themes we are already quite familiar with, they still do that better than anyone else in recent memory.. I think they do it with great taste most of the time, and they don't go totally over the top like kung fury.
I do wonder how that black chick grew up to be an indian woman though.. they might as well have used a white or asian kid my least favorite ep was probably with those types, it felt forced and i eh, just didn't care for it. i can see how the series could use that theme for a whole other season.. ugh.
The love story is such a small part of it that i never thought too much of it, it's not to an annoying degree. it's like those people who complain about jar-jar in the SW movies, a character who has something like 1 minute or less of screen time in each of the movies, i'd probably hate every movie in existence if i was that sensitive..
