... And I'm happy to say first episode is really solid  It starts with a bang, then gets a bit slower, with a very predictable road towards the ending, but I'll be damned if that ending didn't deliver 
So far everything works great. The atmosphere, Castle, action, even the choice of music is perfect. Great stuff. It's not groundbreaking or anything, but if you've seen any revenge action flick, ever, you'll feel right at (somewhat bloodied) home, and that's precisely what I want out of my Punisher

I'm just 3 episodes in for now, so I can't judge the whole season, but so far I find it neither particularly slow, nor fast. Stuff is happening in every episode, characters get background and proper exposition, story is moving forward, and when the action happens, it happens with a bang.
I'm pretty sure the show got at least some flack because of the excessive violence, so that might be a factor as far as metacritic / rt go. No feminist / minority undertones either, so it doesn't get bonus points from the critics, like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage... Or Wonder Woman, for that matter. In fact, it's quite the opposite. It's a very male - oriented show.
That's not to say Punisher is perfect. I'd say it's a decent watch, with some great moments. Very bleak, though, dark, but that's sorta expected.

I will say this there will be no season 2.

why? daredevil was shit and its still chugging along. Shows dont have to be good to survive, they just have to get the right review sites and bloggers and social media 'personalities' to say that its good.

Some sites before this came out were all punisher should not be released.
A lot of bad publicity especially for this show can fuck it up.
It's a military drama.
It's not bad and the action is solid / brutal.
It's not warzone good. and it's not Thomas Jane good.
We won't see season 2. We will see him in other shows but not a season 2.
Too many kids are whining, the low score is become of identity politcs...
Even "nerd" sites are trashing it for glorifying violence/guns.
Same "nerd" sites who were upset that you enslaved orcs in middle earth games... :/

Saw first 6 eps and I like it. Apart from some idiotic moments (Like a bullet hitting the hammer....) it's solid. Lot's of good gory pew pew.

Yeah, it had the misfortune of being released after a string of mass gun violence cases in the US. And it is a spin-off that wasn't really supposed to happen in the first place, so I wouldn't be surprised if it got canned after season one.
It would be a shame, because honestly, after 4 eps I find it pretty good. Better than most of Marvel shows that's for sure, like Iron Fist, Defenders or Luke Cage especially. Better than Daredevil, or at the very least the bad, ninja parts of it. I think I enjoyed JJ more, but that's mostly because I'm really into noir stuff, much more than military themes that are so prevalent here.
It's a solid enough military drama mixed with a brutal revenge flick. If you think that might be your cup of tea, give it a try. You can safely ignore the Marvel brand too, you really can't feel the show has anything to do with it. The script has some holes here and there, however, that keep it from becoming great.

Eh, I think it deserves the middling reviews.
- very few scens of Frank actually fucking shit up, and the ones that are there aren't even shot very well.
- the Micro's family and Dinah subplots are trash.
- they spend way too much time in that basement.
- I know that law enforcement being really bad at their jobs is a big movie and TV staple, but boy, we're approaching Blacklist levels of incompetence here.
- the way they handled the gun rights stuff was super on the nose.
- as with most Marvel shows, it was much longer than it needed to be.
