The crates are bought with drachma (in-game currency). There are also daily quests that grant you one chest. But even if you refuse buy crates, legendary items do drop from certain enemies and are worth upgrading because they have special properties.

I found the crates not really worthwhile for the 3000dr, used the gold for something else instead. You get enough good stuff without the crates, anyway.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeh, should have said I'll never buy crates or otherwise for real money in a game.

Yea, this game's crates are not needed. Unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY want that particular item. There is plenty of shit to find around and upgrade.

Mostly focusing on various glitches, some are fairly minor but I did laugh a bit at the 2:55 mark when gramps climbs up out of the water after the player drops him from the bridge, despite being dead. (And then does it again when the player repeats the attempt.)

EDIT: Ah yeah, contains several story spoilers.

Yeah, both the crates in-game as the deluxe/gold versions (whichever is the one that gives you some extra gear at the start) are really not required. You level up super fast, especially when you do the side-quests and explore (e.g., you play the game Very Happy ) and loot levels up with you so you really don't need it.

It's not even necessary to level up your weapons to your current level at the blacksmith (unless you're at max level 40), as you find plenty of stuff. And it could become quite expensive, given the leveling speed.

You could do the daily optional missions to get legendary gear, but all in all it doesn't really make that much of a difference and it's more cosmetic than anything else.

Not sure if it's useful advice, but at the start of the game, you get 200 free credits to sample the store. I used it to get some (rare) crafting materials, which gives a nice boost to crafting your equipment instead of grinding for it (I found the grind not to be that bad, btw, but maybe that's because I used the free credits for this).
(Also, never sell your weapons but salvage them for material so all you need from the world are skins).

Completed it at 98%, after 57 hours. Except for a couple of camps, I did everything. Very nice game, potentially GOTY. Not close to The Witcher (of course), but still, best AC since the second one.

never salvage your weapons for materials, sell them for gold, that you will use when you get to 40 to level up legendary gear and to buy legendary gear if you want to as horses/carriages/armor

you get insane amount of crafting materials by robbing riders, that go around the roads on the map, just look for a road where they frequent, wait for them to come near and blade kill the first one that is actually carrying the loot, be sure to check with the eagle first, as not all riders carry loot
I've had instances of jumping on 1 pack of riders, then 2 more join while passing by.. fast 60 materials.. just watch out for riders with flame bows

as for the pelts - get the skill that auto loots things that you kill with weapons, and just roam around with your horse, using a long weapon like a long axe, one-shotting packs of 3-6 gazelles with 1 go, netting 3-12 pelts at a time

hard leather is a bit slower, as you have to kill crocodiles/hippos, but there are several places with legendary crocks/hippos around the map, that will net you 30+ each

100% completion requiring clearing every area is probably not something most players would go for anyway, there's also a few hidden locations (One only unlocking after completing the story.) and even hidden quests (I've done about 100 now, there's something like 127 in total.) but at most the locations have one or two notable chests and little else of value so you get some random loot that's mostly just for selling unless it happens to be equipment which is then deconstructed to keep upgrading your equipment.
(How many hides did Bayek wrap around his bracers by now? Razz )

The military camps at least have the commanders (And big super-soldier dudes on occasion.) that can yield rare or occasionally even legendary items which is always nice plus those gems for the highest tier upgrades.
(Those super soldiers can be a pain though, twice as tall as most other troops and wielding giant spear/staff weapons plus near unlimited stamina, lengthy combos, health rivaling bosses and reduced damage from stealth attacks.)

True, once you have all the material you need, you can start selling stuff. I never really bothered wih getting all legendary weapons to lvl 40, just the ones I was using, so never ran into money problems.
Salvaging is nice in case you don't feel like grinding the materials.

I'm somewhere in the middle southern part of the map..lvl 35 I believe and hit a 3-spear camp (large one) with a super soldier at lvl 31 or 32. Imagine my surprise when I went to air assassinate him and it only took a fraction of health off. I then subsequently died because I couldn't jump out of the way far enough with the giant spear he had.

After three hours of gaming it seems different compared to the older games. It's goddamn time I'd say. I like the combat system, it feels meatier. Everything about the game feels more action RPG like, unlike the older games.
The VA is terrible though, strange thing since they have ample experience with it. For some reason it bothers me very much. I also feel like I started the story in the middle of it, but I assume that has some purpose. Are character models also bad or is it me? Maybe I remember it wrong and I know Unity ran like shit, but I do think Unity looked much better than this one. Hopefully it's just the starting area.

Good start.

Yeah, I don't know what they're actually called but they seem to keep to the bigger forts almost exclusively, armor style kinda reminds me of Greek so I guess they could be called Spartans ha ha.

Those and the later-game Roman what's Wolf again, Vulpes perhaps well the armored but still regular sized troops wearing wolf head helmets those are the main types that really cause problems.

For other enemy types to go through the more common ones at least well the archers can be a pain if you don't spot them in time but they're weak and fire fairly slowly too but with very high accuracy so moving around is pretty useful, brutes or what to call the other big-boy units with usually a hammer and occasionally a tower shield can go into a triple hit combo that can be a problem but their slowness makes them susceptible to many different attacks and tool items.

Regular soldier with sword or spear and a shield is usually just a problem if they keep blocking but getting behind them tends to see that resolved, there's a faster dual wielding unit that tends to favor dodging too but they can only dodge so many times so overall not a huge issue but they tend to spam smoke which is annoying.

And then there's just the commanders, the only hassle here is that their equipment is more varied and the stab combo they do causes a lot of damage with little chance of avoiding it since it tracks.

Going back to the wolf guys they have less health than the commanders but are even more versatile combining strong melee attacks and a shield with a javelin type ranged attacks which deals high damage and causes knockdown, while not as bad as the whatever the hell the super soldier type enemies actually are these tend to be what I spend the initial adrenaline burst on to do a high damage attack and usually immediately eliminate these enemy types, thankfully they're rare.

And yeah I noticed that with stealth as well and for no reason beyond just being cheap these Spartans (or whatever they are.) just don't take any major damage from hidden blade attacks even with the blade at max upgrade level and with a even level or even a higher level than the enemy.
(Since you don't cause much damage at all to enemies above your level whereas they can kill you in a few hits though a hidden blade stab as a opening attack can even this out.)

I don't think it matters too much faction wise how the enemy unit behaves aside from the apparel their wearing, from observation the different "classes" or unit types tend to be shared though the Roman late game units do have these wolf head units (Or what to call them.) as a exclusive and then there's the Phylakes mini-bosses but they're a special case altogether ha ha.
(Even when you outlevel them by a big margin they put up quite a fight and tend to see reinforcement just appear from nowhere if the fight drags on for a extended period of time.)

Combat wise the tracking attacks employed by some enemy types and the way Bayek blocks, parries and dodges (Or doesn't since it's not entirely effective.) can be a bit problematic especially since enemies no longer passively takes turns attacking you but gang up all at once so it's pretty easy to get overwhelmed though the game isn't entirely stealth focused like some of the earlier games preferred with straight out combat usually being a poor choice unless it's isolated targets.

Legendary weapons balance out things a bit, fire tends to cause a bit of damage over time but while you hear screaming and the enemy in question takes a bit of damage they don't stop attacking whereas poison can cause them to start puking stopping their movement entirely for a few moments.

Health restoration and some other fun bonuses can also tip things, sleep triggers less often but the dual sword type weapons and their faster attacks offsets this nicely until you accidentally attack the sleeping target again waking him up. Very Happy
(Made worse by infinity when AI units get in on the fight, they just go for whatever is closest but at least there doesn't seem to be a need to protect mission targets and they just get knocked down for a bit.)

I do like the special finishing attacks of some of the bigger blunt weapons though, cumbersome and slow but that poor guy on the ground isn't going to have any heirs now. Razz
(Attack is probably meant to actually hit the head or chest but tends to hit low most of the time, probably entirely as intended. Heh.)

EDIT: Made even better by what sounds like a recording of fragile ceramics breaking when a attack like that hits, probably also meant to reflect something like bone or hitting the helmet but as I said that particular attack tends to hit low most of the time.
(Sometimes a different variation looking a bit like a golf swing is done, it's not always the overhead smash.)

Though it depends on the weapon type, straight sword uses a stab whereas the kopesh uses a buff that ups attack speed but doesn't reduce damage or prevent being staggered by a enemy attacks, I tend to prefer the attack ones myself over the buffs for that reason.

EDIT: Oh yeah as one of the tooltips point out the guards will actually carry away dead bodies and dump them somewhere outside of the fort or whatever you attacked if they discover any, bit of a neat touch.
(Not quite the Far Cry 2 setup where a guard could try to help a injured guard and then you'd cap him too but it works in a similar way if the NPC is busy with carrying around a corpse when you attack.)

Hint: horseback combat is OP Very Happy I killed the two lvl 40 phylakes in the desert in a single fight without breaking a sweat. All on a horse Smile Enemies don't seem to be able to block strikes when a horse (unless they have a tower shield, but even then you still do damage it seems).

I also had the flaming sword, which causes enemies to sometimes go in an 'on fire animation' during combat when you can hit them for free.

So, with fire & horseback you (almost) can't lose. But the flaming sword can be quite dangerous when swinging in close quarters with lots of pottery Wink

Yeah I know, I tend to type pretty quickly so this happens pretty frequently where I just write up a pretty lengthy post or several posts in a row even, grammar is a bit rough too so yeah a bit of a wall of text but usually it's nothing too important as it's mostly random thoughts or ideas and opinions. Smile

And I do tend to use more line breaks to separate the posts into different chunks though it breaks up the flow a bit as well but the above post is mostly just that first line and then it's just random bits about the combat system and enemy diversity in the game so nothing too in-depth.

Room for improvements no doubt though for more important info I just tend to quote from other sources so that tends to stand out a bit better at least.
(Lately though I mostly keep up with software and hardware changes such as drivers or the OS, less so for gaming news and news in general outside of forums like this one.)

EDIT: And a quirky sense of humor with dark undertones, I try to keep that a bit controlled though, occasionally. Very Happy

the first few hours are quite good and has that wow feeling since its very good graphically, and looking at the map it's quite promising, but after a few hours you can realise that: too big map, very few activities (outposts, caves, search area for loot, kill animal, star puzzle)

In that regard I think black flag was the best. Naval + on foot. Activities: assassinations, fortresses, plantations, diving, hunting sharks. And the map wasn't that big.
