OSX may be great, but its still a mac.

I'd rather get a copy of Linux...but still, if thats what u have to work with right now, then its all good right. But, if i had the option, Mac or Linux or Windows machine, Im going Linux and or Windows before mac....

Note this is OSX86.. meaning Im dual booting OSX and Windows. Smile

Yeah, thus why Im dual booting.. Although some games do work. But right now as OSX86 has little gfx card support there is no openGL goodness Sad

The only reason (and i mean ONLY) I haven't switched yet is because of the lack of games. I'm seriously thinking of picking up a x86 iMac if it can boot XP.

Come on guys, give me a proper reason why you should hate macs, not just PC user arrogance.

I mean sure, it's missing a few apps and theres not alot of games, thanks to directx and consoles. But other than Microsoft lock-in, give me a proper reason.

Did you use the "bonvine" 6gb image file with DD, or did you use a patched installer? For some strange reason, I can boot and run the image full speed, hardly any errors, but I can't boot the DVD, which is 10.4.3_8f1099.

At first I downloaded the pure 10.4.3 dmg image and converted it then burnt it, only to realise that I couldnt install it due to TMP etc.. So I then downloaded a pre-pachted version if only to save me the effort of having to burn more than one (more) dvd to get things right..

macosx_10.4.3_8f1111a_JaS_Patch_4.2b

Worked like a charm and runs great. The PPC apps take a little bit of time to load but otherwise run flawlessly (with the odd pause every hour or so of usage, probably a memory clean out).. The only 2 issues I have so far, is with my SATA Raid and GFX card, once drivers are done for these Ill be happy Smile..

Aside from that there are a few apps Im waitting for like shapeshifter.. In time they will come..

I hear it requires quite the processor to work, such as an AMD 64 dual-core.

No, you can use any processor you want, so long as it has SSE 2, and/or SSE 3. Though without SSE 3 you can't run rosetta, or many things for that matter.

You can.. Its just emulated if you dont have SSE3, and to be fair it runs really well anyway.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken don't you have to apply some kext patches 1st...?

"Any processor you want as long at it has SSE2"

The thing here is, the majority of the users out there don't have a CPU with SSE2, if I do not remember incorrectly, SSE2 is only available in AMD64 & Opteron-processors. I think all Intel's P4 has it too... but it was years since I owned an Intel.

I have an Athlon XP, so this definitely doesn't work for my system.

Yeah your probably correct, I had a pre-patched version so all was well right from the go.

As for SSE2 being on only newer machines, yeah your right, the following CPU's have SSE2 support.

* AMD Opteron
* AMD Athlon 64
* AMD Sempron (Socket 754 versions only)
* AMD Turion 64
* Intel Pentium 4
* Intel Pentium D
* Intel Pentium EE
* Intel Pentium M
* Intel Celeron D
