Wait until you hear the "voice" acting the game uses ha ha.

Also for some reason inverted controls seem to be the default but it can be adjusted. Smile
And yeah the water color look can come across as a bit smudged or blurry.

The game seems to completely require the Steam API for gamepad support from what I've read on the forums so far, guessing if you're using the cracked version this isn't possible since there's no interaction with the Steam client for this to be possible?

Yea it seems they need to emulate few more functions in the steamemu so it can work on cracked version. I have x360 controller and it doesn't work with iso demo.

For Steam the main controller settings requires big picture mode and the Steam overlay active if I remember correctly.

https://www.howtogeek.com/234427/how-to-remap-buttons-on-your-steam-controller/

Should look something like that, but there are other users on the Steam forum also encountering problems and the current beta version of the client has focused heavily on controller and general input changes so chances are there's some bug or compatibility issues that is causing these problems.

From my understanding the Steam controller API overrides most of the other API's so it handles Direct Input and XInput through Steam but judging by the amount of problems posted with both the PS4 controller (Direct Input) and X360 controller (XInput) something is acting up and with the game using solely the Steam API that presents problems if it isn't working correctly since it can't detect gamepads by any other means.

I would check the big picture mode gamepad settings and see how the gamepad is being detected and how that's set up as a start, not sure how configurable the PS4 or XBox pads themselves are compared to the native Steam controller but there should be some options for how to set these. Smile

Glad to hear there's a emulator too fro this functionality now on the Cs.Rin forums for people who downloaded the game from other sources, mouse and keyboard is serviceable but not really the optimal input I'd imagine.
(I actually don't own a controller though I've been meaning to look this up more but haven't really gotten around to it.)

EDIT: There should be some support for gamepad settings in the regular desktop mode of Steam too now come to think of it, Settings -> Controller and then some additional options but I think big picture mode is still needed for the full configuration.

Make sure controller is configured correctly in steam and the exe is not running as admin if your steam isn't started as admin as well or overlay/gamepad will not work

Nah its shit even through steam. You have to go through stupid BPM and have to turn on overlay , they should rather implement xinput like others do not this halfasses solution through steam api which funnily have problems even with steam controller

PROPER NOTES

The CODEX release isn't functioning with a controller, so here you have a fully working edition with full controller support.
If you are using plain old ACME controller, activate its Analog Mode.
In case you still encounter lags while playing without controller, set EnableController=false in [GameSettings] in steam_api.ini
Huge thanks to the cool friends who helped testing it - you rock!

Thanks for the info prudislav!
Finaly time to revisit this wonderful work of art in a proper way. I tried it years ago on the ps2 emu and despite the tech problems I enjoyed it very much.
Wanted to buy it at first but after reading that even on legit versions there are issues with controller compatibility I quickly changed my mind.

I almost shift deleted this - I had weird slow downs when landing jumps or bashing through jars, thought it was the graphical effects, tried different settings nothing worked.
Then by coincidence unplugged the controller pressed jump on keyboard and the slowdown was gone.
I thought that's weird but oh well let's try to test it some more and minute later bam CRASH.
Restarting several times resulted in crash on intro. What the hell it was working albeit the slow downs few minutes ago.
Apparently game is crashing while the cotroller is unplugged, what is more there are slowdowns cuased by vibration, switching it off fixed it.

Forgot how nonsensical PCs gaming sometimes can be Razz

Damn shame it's 30 fps locked, the game is great though.
