"Ugh." That's pretty much how I felt when I left the cinema.
Way too flashy, the whole movie felt way too disjointed and unorganised, introducing a million new "BUY THIS AS A TOY" stuff left and right, and they utterly fucking WASTED a potentially amazing villain.
Spoiler:
They put Snoke in his shitty red-velvet-background throne room for a bit, have him spout uninspired banalities about darkness and evilness and muhahaha, and then he just gets killed off only to be replaced by Whiny McGoblinface as the ultimate villain. Did we learn who he was? Did we get some kind of motivation beyond "it's good to be bad"? Nope.
The hyperspace collision was pretty neat though...
Well, I'm sure Palpatine was also much more fleshed out in the books, but he was still a really intimidating pile of wrinkles on that throne of his without those books (the cartoonish thing in the prequels not withstanding).
came to realize how this movie is reversal on the "good guys plan always works out kind of deal" thats been rooted in previous movies
Spoiler:
The first thing that happens in the movie is Poe fucks up. He gets people killed. Then Luke fucks up by being dishonest. Poe fucks up again by not trusting Holdo and assuming her plan isn't gonna work. And then there's an entire B-plot about Finn and Rose spanning a third of this movie's running time that's all in service of fucking things up. But the fuck ups don't just stop with the good guys - Snoke fucks up royally by connecting Rey and Kylo, Kylo fucks up by assuming Rey is into him, obviously Phasma fucks up by not just gunning down Rose and Finn when she had the chance, and then Kylo fucks up yet again by letting his ego get in the way of Luke taking advantage of his fuck ups
This movie is about the mother of all fuck ups. I love it. Maybe that's why some people walk away dissatisfied with it; it's an endless string of a bunch of people doing things wrong. I love how so much of this stuff is spontaneous, it's the first movie in this series that feels more like an honest depiction of the "Wars" part of the title, even morethan Rogue One. Shit hits the fan when you least realize it and everyone acts on impulse with no idea where it's gonna lead.
Enjoyed it. The second half mainly. First was okay but second was a total blast.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
It seems this movie is dividing people even more than the two previous ones
Either you love or hate it, it seems. The negative comments are weird though, most don't seem to like it because it's too different than other Star Wars movies?
most who hate it from what i'm seeing / reading is because it's nothing like a star wars movie.
it has the battles, it has the deaths, but it doesn't have star wars.
Back from the cinema with my father who is the greatest sw fan. He loved original movies and seen em as a kid in cinema for first time. He even thought 2000s movies were okishh and he loved force awakens.
Ive never seen him dissapointed as he was today. He dislikes this movie. He understands they need to make place for new heroes and its ok but he really dialiked the pace, all stupid bullsshit side stories and think the movie is too unfocused. Even he laughed of leia scene...
And I agree with him. It was a bad cringy disney movie. Even the music was very weird. It defienietly was too loud and there was too much of it. Bad guys = bad military music. Good guys = bad hope music.
I loved the damn little fluffy creatures but as a summary I will repeat my father words:
"It's no longer a Star Wars movie. It's a cartoon for this generation and lacks "the force""
I never expected anything from shitty star wars nowadays but he did

Star Wars movies have a certain feel to them. This one seems to lack it.
Force awakens was filled to brim with Star Wars feels and this one strayed from
It as if it were a Star Wars movie written/directed by someone who's only a fan of Star Wars by association.
I haven't seen it. But that's what I'm getting from all the negative views.
@3E74
Early buzz, reviews before seeing the movie...
Also I have a question...
When I watched reaction trailers
Ignoring : forgetting majority of the pre trailer hype and shit
When porgs showed up... everyone knew who the porgs were and they instantly knew what they were... I'm lost on this... how?
"It's no longer a Star Wars movie. It's a cartoon for this generation and lacks "the force""
i guess we saw different movie :-/ but i guess in a way i get that it was no longer scifi fairy tail but had good guys fail and fail hard
but well even Empire had mixed reception back then ... but for me worst thing was living through the prequels in real-time ... that was so rough that i guess i am not that elitist

well i read lot of comments and they are pretty much in these categoiess:
- "too many jokes"/ "marvel level jokes ruins the drama scenes" - this one pretty much makes me facepalm ... its a series that FFS created word Nervherder and in previous shows we had scenes like this FFS https://twitter.com/AwesomEmergency/status/941807653998641153
- "useless subplots" /"dropped subplots from TFA" - well its a middle part of a trilogy and JarJar comes nack directing ep9
"angry about development of chars that is different than what the person wished for"/ not SW feel - aka people overhyped and overanalyzed JarJars shit and somehow expected everything to be dealt with :-/
- "nitpicks from not paying attentions"
- "nostalgia googles" - you know you never gonnabe that kid that watched original trilogy with open mouth
The Force Awakens - Slated for being too similar to the originals.
The Last Jedi - Slated for being nothing like any other Star Wars movie.
or maybe i just love how they threw out fan speculations out of the window and instead of legendary superpoweredpeople show just people fucking up in a war

Spot on. I went with my brother, and we were excited since we saw all the good reviews, and the previous one was good but this was garbage. It didn't have the Star Wars feel to it, and it has so many dumb scenes. A big disappointment.
Terrible cringy movie Star Wars are completely dead for me.
Rogue One was so boring, the movie was rated good mostly just for last 5 minuts IMO.
But this was so much worse. Disappointed as never before.
It has some problems (mostly with editing) but I've found it spectacular, entertaining and amusing. For once (since the prequels) I didn't feel treated as a retard. TFA is embarrassing in that regard.
Quite interesting isn't it? To me it was absolutely great. I loved TFA, even though it was just Episode 4 2.0 but disliked Rogue One heavily. The last Jedi was very good though except for one of the plotlines (and most of the stuff attached to it) which felt absolutely unnecessary.

Ahh, I see.
I guess this one doesn't really have a star wars feeling to it. And from what I've heard about the movie, I'm waiting for a BR-rip (I was planning on seeing it in theaters).
Well to me it feels perfectly like star wars. More so than Rogue One and the prequels. It has a bit more slapstick in it, but on a level with TFA I'd say. The characters are not as bleak as in Rogue One and the story and twists are actually very well. It's the most unique approach in the Star Wars universe and doesn't fully rely on memberberries like Rogue One, but actually introduces new concepts into the Star Wars universe. I'm honestly considering going to the cinema again just to see it once more before it is released on bluray
I thought it was an enjoyable movie, nothing more really. I had three major problems:
- barely any memorable scenes, zilch.
- barely any jedi/sith fights. Where's the goddamn force?
- I missed imaginative planets, I got bored of seeing the same damn ships every scene
As for character (development): Rey didn't move an inch, Leia was degraded to a symbol, Poe's development was extremely predictable, Luke was boring and mopy, Snoke turned out to be a pussy. The only character that interested me was Kylo Ren, though the actor's overacting face was a bit distracting. It's a typical mid part of a trilogy. Everything goes to shit, but don't worry it'll turn out OK in the next one.
It was alright, I enjoyed the previous one much more. 7/10
Must every major movie have the same style of humor now?
Meh, cant wait for HDR release, cinema always looks crappy compared to TV at home...
Not sure what to make of the movie though, felt a bit dragged out really. And the emo sith still doesn't convince. Every shot at him, his face looks like he could burst to tears at any moment lol
The first hour raised my hopes for a more subtle approach towards the Force and how manichean the story has always been, but they had to dilute it with uninteresting characters and a very stereotypical ending.
I hoped Kylo Ren would become deeper than a sheet of paper, but nah.. gotta be retardedly evil for whatever reason. Some completely over-the-top scenes ( Leia unconsciously flying in deep space ? Really ..? ) combined with an inability to die on behalf of the main characters didn't help at all. Who cares if everything appears to go to shit ? They all land back on their feet like nothing happened. Did Poe feel like he regretted anything he decided for ? Hell no ! What was the point of him making bad decisions then ?
Luke was somewhat interesting in the first half of the movie, but he had to basically contradict everything he said after that. What was the point of burning the last Jedi relics if it's not actually the end of the Jedi ?
Oh and who cares who Snoke was, he's dead now - in a pretty damn stupid way as well. How did a new Sith Master came to light ? Who the fuck was he even ? Well, we'll never know I guess. And all of those Marvel/DC "humoristic" moments had me nearly kill myself - same thing with those fluffy and so, so adooorable creatures that you can already picture lined up in the toy stores.
Finally, this movie's ending reeked of "you'll enjoy the next trilogy". I can't see how a third movie could satisfyingly wrap all of this up.
