The small scope with the grand scheme of things pushed to the background I have absolutely no problems with. To me, that's what defines a good Star Wars movie, so that the focus is on the characters and their (inter)actions.
Leia as an ambassador and rebel is all we needed to know for A New Hope.
They took that from Empire.. for this movie, which is also basically one giant chase between 3 Star Destroyers and the Millenium Falcon.
Making everything epic and connected is only since The Phantom Menace, and you just get a giant mess with dozens of characters spread all over the universe doing 'epic' shit.
That's also why Rogue One works better than TFA (and why TFA is not a good remake of ANH).
I really don't need them to over-explain everything.
@vurt
Way back then i thought Clone Wars was just some kids cartoon without much going on.
Boy was i glad that recently i changed my mind to try it out.
CW and Rebels are really so fun and well done shows!
Also Kenobi actually is a cool character there, compared to the shows.
Yes, Kenobi is far better there.
Chopper is such a cool and grumpy droid with so much character in comparison to the super boring BB-8.
I guess the style/graphics in s01 of Clone Wars might turn people off and overall the graphics might turn people off in the other seasons too, but i think it works and i got used to it.

It's no more a children's show than the movies.
I always thought "this is gonna be stupid" but now that I actually watched the first 5 eps of it, I do actually like it.
I wish I had watched this earlier! Thanks for the explanations, I wouldn't have even touched it otherwise.
Read all the spoilers and I feel bad for Mark. Rian Johnson is an idiot. If Disney has some sense then they better hand off the new trilogy to someone who can actually write.
Why did he make Luke say "laser sword" when he was refering to his light sabre? It's meant to troll the fans i guess, since fans often ridicule people using this incorrect word for their weapon(which we know has nothing to do with laser)? My guess, it's meant to say "it's MY movie, now light sabers is something else, so ha!" or what was the intention.
Should we expect more "fun" trollings and pop culture/movie references in the next movie? Its turned to absolute garbage when a director is using the material in this way.
Yeah, I don't mind them turning expectation upside down, but when they do it to extremes like this, it's just a giant fuck you to the fans that made the franchise popular in the first place.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
Rian Johnson makes it blatantly obvious that the bastardisation of Luke was done solely because he's incapable of writing people with two similar personalities
Quote:
If he comes in as just an optimistic fighter for the good guys, that gives Rey nothing to bounce up against — that’s just an older version of Rey. So it’s not what Mark had in his head initially, and that’s why he’s spoken very openly about his being caught off guard by the script and where the character ends up. But I knew this is where it had to be. We got into the conversations, and we got into the work, and we talked, and we argued, and we discussed, and that process ended up being very good for the character and also for our working relationship. It was a very good one.
He was able to turn Darth Vader, but he tries to murder Kylo and he tells Rey that Kylo can't be saved when it is clear that Kylo is conflicted.
Fuck off Disney.
Spoiler:
He didn't try to murder Kylo, he thought of it because he was afraid at the sheer power he was confronted with. And Kylo was not really conflicted, that was Snoke manipulating him. Kylo lost all his humanity when he murdered Han.

This movie made me want to rewatch prequels. It was this bad

Then why did Kylo hesitate when he could have killed Leia?
I saw this last thursday. Worst star wars movie in my opinion. Fucking atrocious, all the progressive virtue signaling left a side, it was a total piece of shit.

Spoiler:
Because snoke manipulated him so that Rey senses his "inner" conflict, which was planted there by snoke.
Yeah that's about half of the stuff I noticed as well.
Spoiler:
The original Star Wars movies had this good mix of serious vs silly moments. This movie is very very lackluster and throws comedy in everywhere. I like comedy and if this wasn't a Star Wars movie, I'd probably enjoy it more in the way Fifth Element was fun but this is no the Fifth Element, this is Star Wars, and going overboard by making the robot into superman? Also, the whole Ren / Rey thing just does NOT work. I get what they were doing but it felt so childish. The original plot with Luke being tempted to the dark side lasted two movies and they tried to cram 5 movies worth into a single one and STILL manage to have less proper plot.
