Claybook is a unique physics driven game. Everything acts like it would be made out of real clay. Every inch of the environment can be shaped and molded. Everything has matter inside it, not just an outer shell. Clay can be deformed, destroyed, melted to fluid and frozen back to solid.
In the game, you step into the shoes of brave kids who bring the Claybook to life. Each chapter of the book challenges you with unique obstacles and puzzles. You possess clay blobs and morph them to different shapes in order to overcome tricky situations. Each shape has its own strengths and weaknesses, some even have special powers.
Invite friends to play in local multiplayer. While you are at it, why don't you build new chapters together.
TECHNOLOGY
Claybook is powered by our in-house developed technology called Clayfield. Using this technology we can render and simulate rich volumetric clay environments. Clayfield makes new kind of user generated content possible. Players can unleash their creativity without having to worry about the technical details. Our technology is designed for butter smooth 60 fps gameplay on PC and consoles.
Clayfield technology has been built on top of the Unreal Engine 4.
DEVELOPER
Claybook is developed by Second Order, an independent game studio based in Helsinki, Finland. The studio was founded in October 2015 by Sebastian Aaltonen and Sami Saarinen, two veteran game developers behind the Trials game series (web games, 2, SE, HD, Evolution & Trials Fusion™). We had many roles and responsibilities over the years. Before starting our new journey with our own company Sebastian was the Senior Lead Programmer and Sami was the Technical Art Director of the Trials core team.
Claybook is being developed by a small team of three developers. Our team has over 30 years of professional game development experience on six platforms (including PC, Microsoft Xbox® and Sony PlayStation®).
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We don't have any rigid timeline and we want to have enough time to make all of the suggested improvements and features before the release. We expect that 3-6 months will give us plenty of time and release would be early 2018.”
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“The Early Access version will evolve into full version with much more content, features, and improvements. We are aiming that to bring more books, new ways to experience the Claybook world, improve the user-generated content creation and sharing.
During the Early Access, we except that there is going to be the awesome creations by the community and all of them will be available to everyone on release.”
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“All of the major components are in place and available in the game. The game has a bunch of chapters that challenges players in various ways, and we know that we need more for seasoned players. All of the chapters have leaderboards, and it helps a bit until we have more books and chapters. We are prepared to frequently add new chapters into the game as we update the game.
Players can create new books and chapters and share them through the Steam Workshop. All of the creation tools, sharing and discovering new content can be done inside the game.
The game is already stable, but there is always need for bug fixes, and improvements and all aspects of the game will be covered during the early access. Also, we want to make sure that our new technology that utilizes GPU for gameplay also runs smoothly without issues on all of the supported system.”
Not sure when but it's available in early access now and looks amazing.
