The whole Book of the Dead asset package is available to download and use in Unity. Some of the files are licensed though.

Does it rival "both CRYENGINE and Unreal Engine" yet?

They are going public funding this year so perhaps they will finally get some quality programmers and finish all the features left at 60-80% and make new ones to rival Unreal and Cryengine.
Or get to the ground in the next 5 years for not being competitive while all investors liquidate it for money.

You don't have to use blueprints. You can write C++ directly for your logic.

blueprints are tied into a ton of UE4s functionality.. it's not that easy to throw it out for game development as a solo dev. if one just wanted a renderer, then it probably wouldn't matter which engine was used.

With John Riccitiello on board and his signature vi$ion Unity is now going all-in:
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/13/unity-stock-down-on-lowered-2022-guidance-merger-with-ironsource.html
Quote: | IronSource lets game developers manage advertising and marketing, and view engagement through dashboards and other tools that show how a game is performing.
"The combination of Unity and IronSource better supports creators of all sizes by giving them all the tools they need to create and grow successful apps in gaming and other consumer-facing verticals like e-commerce." |
Also:
Quote: | Implementing monetisation earlier in the process and conversation is certainly an angle that has seen pushback from some developers.
Riccitiello: Ferrari and some of the other high-end car manufacturers still use clay and carving knives. It’s a very small portion of the gaming industry that works that way, and some of these people are my favourite people in the world to fight with – they’re the most beautiful and pure, brilliant people. They’re also some of the biggest fucking idiots. |
