Nightdive Studios hints at a Forsaken re-release or remaster
Quote:
Nightdive Studios has just released some screenshots for Forsaken, hinting at a possible re-release or a remaster. Forsaken is a 3D first-person shooter similar to Descent. The game came out in 1998 and was one of the few games that showcased what 3D graphics accelerators were capable on the PC.

Nightdive Studios did not reveal any additional details but our guess is that similar to Turok Remaster, Forsaken Remaster will be as close to the real deal as possible. In other words, the game’s textures and 3D models won’t be enhanced or improved. PC gamers may be able to choose resolutions up to 4K and the game will run on all modern-day systems but apart from these ‘features’, you should not expect a complete ‘modern’ remaster.

Then the topic "Forsaken - Remaster [NR]" is wrong?

i dont get their re-releases. spend an extra 2 months on doing retextures at least, the games will look a lot better... its not like these old games had many thousands of textures, so it should be possible to do fairly quick.

Kaiser behind the port, as usual for him he has included elements exclusive to N64 version.

Quote:
Probably the most exciting aspect of Forsaken EX is that it's not going to be a straight port. The PC, Playstation and N64 versions of the game each had their own quirks, and in the case of the N64 version, wildly different content in some parts, such as some all-new bosses. Not happy to let console gamers of yesteryear hog all the glory, Forsaken EX is going to be integrating much of the 'lost' N64 content back into the PC version, adapted and remixed to fit the faster, twitchier PC edition's gameplay.

What I recall the most about this game, is the calendar that came with it in the box. It had lots of skimpy girls on it. Their marketing was very much aimed in that direction. Still, very decent Descent clone and looked excellent in its days.

EDIT: Maybe be a bit nice to people browsing Hump at work so let's take off the image tags just in case. Very Happy

I had one of the face wallpapers as large poster in my room back then. It came with a video game mag. Apparently they didn't have the balls to include the one with boobs Sad

This game evokes many good memories, I had such a blast with it. I still remember though that when it came out my beyond obsolete PC wouldn't even manage to start it (a dramatic event) so the only way for me was to go to my uncle's house almost every day and play it there on his cutting-edge Rage 128, it felt glorious Very Happy

It ran great on my 3dfx masterrace Voodoo 3 2000. I don't remember if it had a Glide renderer, probably did?

Any game that supported Glide ran fast as fuck!

So where is the remastered part?

Would be so much better with high res textures and some parallax mapping. But still, looking forward to it.

As with previous Kaiser's ports (e.g. Turok), assets are the same, codebase is all new (his custom engine).

This translates to a look that isn't much different compared to the original, but playability is very high because a modern engine plays well with high resolutions, framerates, and modern hardware and OS. He also includes the N64 exclusives (levels and enemies for this game) when available, as he reverse engineers both PC and N64 versions.
