Game is using Phyre though, Phyre Engine unpacker from modding Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD is also used for this game such as for adjusting the Zodiac board.
Or I'm confusing it with backwards compatibility with the initial (YLOD prone.) version of the PS3 which had actual hardware for playing PS2 titles on the system, possibly seeing the game running through a PS3 via this particular method.
There's the updated version of the game too but that's not it either.
(But it is where many of the changes from the original comes from though some of it has been further tweaked here.)
EDIT: Well Square has certainly ported Final Fantasy to a ton of different consoles, especially the older games and anything from varying consoles to later-generation handheld devices.
For example, running the game fully maxed-out the Titan X Pascal or its GTX 1080 Ti equivalent just can't deliver a locked 60fps at 4K, and the RX Vega 64 falls even further away from the target.
Nice, another shit job by the SE tards.
I bet those cards will be able to run FF XV at 4k/60fps with most settings maxed though.
At least i got 40fps on average in the benchmark @ 4k. And that also had GayWorks activated.

Yeah the real size is around 16 GB but that's still some gain.
Also there's a interview here regarding the games localization and voice acting including what they decided to change and how they worked with the games script and other dialogue.
Pretty interesting read also shows that it differs quite a bit to the original Japanese script but still conveys the same general feeling though more dramatized but still very carefully edited though not everyone likes the more flowing text and poetic or theater like acting although it is still considered to be a really good job.
(Although the game itself apparently loses steam a bit towards the later half possibly related to the original lead developer stepping down due to health issues from over working himself and stress.)
Also the game in general breaks quite heavily from the previous FF games and almost borders on a MMO in gameplay and I think the Zodiac version still retains some of the grind or chance elements such as having only a X chance for a container to spawn in the current screen and then only a X chance for a particular item to be found in said container.
(Which for some items it's a pretty low chance to get these and the same goes for some of the rarer creatures and then for stuff some of these drop which you then have to sell a certain amount of to get special deals on the bazaar.)
From what ive seen the last days on youtube you can actually force those items/chests etc. to appear pretty easy and fast compared to the chance some of the items have (1 in 10.000).
Spoiler:
Like this one for example:
or that one:
Also some other neat stuff like AFK farming or Easy Ribbons
Some mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy12/mods/
I can't recommend "No overhead HP bar for allies" enough they always bothered me and are completely useless since the HP are displayed detailed in the hud anyway.
Oh and i recommend to either disable the DOF or counter it with Lumasharpen (game is a bit blurry even without DOF so i would use it in any case) it's quite strong and very close to the camera, Reshade 3.0 doesn't work correctly with the game because of it's ui and makes some some stuff invisible so you have to use old reshade or sweetfx, here is mine if anyone is interested:

Reshade with sharpening and something like Clarity / Exposure are my get to go for nearly every game nowadays.
I don't understand why the games always look so muddy and pale. When you add some decent Reshading, it get's even more prominent.
Sometimes i feel that my eyes are just getting worse and i need new glasses again.
Nah i have perfect vision and games definitely are getting muddier, paler and blurrier every year, granted in this case it's just a quick remaster so they are actively trying to hide the remaining flaws this way.
