Who browses the Steam Store from the app though?
It's so inconvenient compared to a real browser.

Steam Purges Developer's Games After Finding Manipulated Review Scores
Quote:
Insel Games has had its games purged from Steam after the developer was discovered manipulating review scores with fake accounts.

A Reddit post claiming that the company's CEO was threatening to fire employees if they didn't buy the game and leave positive reviews on Steam caused Valve to investigate.

In an update today, Valve said that it had "identified unacceptable behavior involving multiple Steam accounts controlled by the publisher of this game.

"The publisher appears to have used multiple Steam accounts to post positive reviews for their own games. This is a clear violation of our review policy and something we take very seriously.

"For these reasons, we are ending our business relationship with Insel Games Ltd. and removing their games from our store."

The studio's titles include Guardians of Ember, World of Fishing, and Trinium Wars. Wild Buster: Heroes of Titan was the studio's most recent title, and the one that apparently prompted the email from CEO requesting that staff buy the game and write reviews.

"Of course I cannot force you to write a review (let alone tell you what to write) but I should not have to," read the email. "Neglecting the importance of reviews will ultimately cost jobs. If [Wild Buster] fails, Insel fails [...] and then we all will have no job next year."

Steam users who have Insel games in their library will still be able to access them, but the titles are no longer available to purchase on the platform.

Sale is shit as expected from such a short duration.

The wishlist got some much needed rework though.
I mostly like that after removing a game from it, it no longer jumps back to the top again.

// Nice, you can also sort by review score. This makes cleaning up the list much easier. Very Happy

I've never heard of either the games nor the developer Confused . I bet it was one of the staff that tipped off Steam. I don't know how steam would know otherwise, I'm sure they are far too busy counting their money to probe and investigate the company on their own accord. Some disgruntled employee from Insel perhaps who felt miffed that their boss was forcing them to buy their own game. Mad

The current sale isn't too great, however I did pick up a few budget titles. Elite dangerous probably being the best of the bunch. That was £5. Dustwind, Global outbreak Doomsday, The Hurricane of varstray, Livelock, NEO scavanger and Montaro Razz . Also got that program Borderless gaming, now the new monitor's been delivered. Sounds a bit like a gimmick though, like the CPUCores program.. I doubt if it will actually even be very useful, but i'll give it a go anyway.

I guess there are no restrictions at all on Steam, if even those games are allowed to rape Valve games.

Same with stuff like this:

Shitty simulator, 180 US Dollars, or Euro.
With equally shitty DLC, also 180 US Dollars or Euro.

Kongregate will launch a Steam competitor this year with Kartridge
Quote:
You probably know Kongregate as a website specialized in bringing games to your browser, but now they’re looking to expand their offerings. Later this year they’ll launch Kartridge, a PC gaming platform set to compete with the likes of Steam.

The official announcement emphasizes support for developers as one of Kartridge’s core tenets. Developers will have no approval process to undergo and no upload fees, in contrast to the $100 Steam direct fee. A wide variety of monetization options will also be available, including standard purchases, free-to-play options, ad-supported models, and pay-what-you-want configurations.

With a minimal barrier to entry, Kartridge will help to direct players toward games both through algorithms and curation from an editorial team. Kongregate CEO Emily Greer tells GamesIndustry.biz that “this approach will help surface titles that are getting lost in other marketplaces and will help players find new content they didn't know they'd love.”

Greer says “We acknowledge Steam's leadership in the industry, but we feel there is a gap in the market offering that we are uniquely qualified to remedy.”

Kartridge will also have a big emphasis on community features, with chat features intended to cross between the store and the games themselves. The platform will also feature extensive achievement levelling systems entirely separate from those on Kongregate.

But Kongregate itself isn’t going anywhere, the the developers acknowledge that the decline in browser support for Flash and Unity has led many game makers to move toward downloadable games on PC. The company has already published several games on Steam themselves.

Expect Kartridge to launch summer 2018. A closed beta is set to begin in the next few weeks, and you can enter your email address at Kongregate to stay up to date.

For me the biggest difference between steam and similar platforms is that steam is much cheaper in many regions (mine as well) the competitors like origin battle.net (blizz app or how they call it now) nor uplay dont offer that even though they moved their games to their own store and dont even pay a cut anymore(greedy bstrds) That's why a new platform cant be competitive anyhow. They cant do the price drops steam does and besides all that steam has good community features if we compare them to the competition(activity page, forums for each game, group chats and the market place)

Lack of Quality Control? Last stats from January indicate that there are around 1000 games being released each month on Steam. Now, make a list of all noteworthy games released in Jan 2018, please. All done? Good, post it. Your ration is x:1000 (where x is your number) and the rest of what's left is utter trash nobody gives a shit about.

Steam is a fucking garbage dump with occasional neon signs here and there - beside some big or well-marketed titles, but depending from where you stand these mountains of trash can obscure all the view.

okay and how much of the 1000 titles do you get shoved in your face?
it's not like Aa or AAA games go under or even indie games have a chance to shine still (Dead cells etc.)

Besides the news about that new platform stated that they wont have any entrance fee unlike steam. Who says they ll be any better

I guess it depends on how you browse it.

http://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&os=win

That would be all of them, whereas the recommended stuff if you go via that skips most of it but then you risk missing interesting new releases.

At least addons like Enhanced Steam adds more ways to filter out things via tags.
(No indie for example but that also removes several bigger titles that just didn't have a publisher behind them and Valve doesn't want directly negative tags to Asset-Swap and some others were banned.)

Indie:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&tags=492&os=win

No indie:
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&tags=-492&os=win

(Which you can do without browser addons via the "-" symbol in front of the tag number.)
