I think the game is good, I find it relaxing to play and visually compelling.
I would really enjoy it if it wasn't for memory leaks, models flickering and performance drops on legit copy.
I decided to drop an email to Sqare Enix describing the problem and threat them that I won't buy anything fromt them if the go Nier Automata on us again.
To my suprise they actually read it and replied (not pasting generic BS):
"(...)> The developers are already investigating reports of memory leaks in the game on PC with the hope of resolving this issue, but we would not be able to guarantee if or when such a resolution will be released.
>
> In regards to your issues with character models flickering on your device, we will need to review some diagnostic files from your computer, please generate the following files and send them as an attachment in an email to SEE_Support@ptw-i.com(...)"

So there's a hope for a patch

If FFXIII wasn't called Final Fantasy, I wonder how much hate the game would actually receive. Is the game incredibly linear? Yes; so are most RPG's this generation out of Japan. XV makes a fine return to the open-world setting that has been lacking in Final Fantasy for awhile, however it is still quite linear. This is just where the series is.

. . .however does that really make the game "garbage?" I mean sure, be frustrated that they aren't giving you the same game that you had for 9 previous iterations of the series, but to qualify the game as garbage just because it doesn't have the gameplay you want. . .that just seems bonkers.

I would still dislike it. I haven't really been hyped about Final Fantasy. My favorites would be 9 and 12, but I had no hype for them when they were announced, same as with 8 ant 10 and 13 and 15.

I'm more of a SaGa fan. SaGa Frontier 2 being my favorite console, squeenix, and saga game.

So no, I'd still think 13 was bad sadly.

We all know how that would end Laughing
Joking aside I hadn't many issues with Nier Automata to be honest, IIRC there was this weird resolution downscaling making the visuals blurry, but FAR mod fixed it sooo I wasn't bothered enough to be arsed that much.
Unfortunately Kalaiden's wizadry won't fix the memory leak this time...

Having the occasion however I also mentioned the demo vs retail performance difference that it's probably caused by the Denuvo, sooo if it eventually gets removed you know who to thank for

Yup, had no problems myself that couldn't be fixed with the FAR mod.

Not many people here playing this it seems?
Just looking at the posts, and only a few actually talk about the game.

Played the demo version, it was alright, but it is the usual case: the PE is more interesting than the actual game Smile

EDIT: As for the cast of XIII well Szash is pretty nice

Never finished XIII (and i tried 2 times allrdy...) but Sazh was by far the only character which didn't make me face palm every time he was on screen, the bros in XV actually grew on my after a while but i still hate the cast of XIII.

XV definitely is a better game then XIII just not a very good (traditional) Final Fantasy but i actually made it trough once and i am even replaying the PC version now and having fun that's far more then i can say about XIII.

Yep even being the bishounen gayfags they are, the dudes arent actually bad characters and their interactions are well written to the extent that they feel like a pretty realistic group of friends. It's definitely a thousand times better than anything in XIII, that shit was just painful.

They grow on you, I found it also helped to watch the short anime episodes of each character (Which is funny, since I really hated the look of this game because of them).
I do wish we could make our own party and have some females as a choice I like my party mixed... but can't say they did a bad job on having the feeling of a tight group of friends roaming around.

No. Dear me, no.

I mean, yeah you'll get some background info, but Kingsglaive was a waste of what felt like 3 hours of my life.

If you have time to waste and want some back story: sure. It's not good though, but it has some bits that add to the game.
You'll get more out of Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV (full episodes on youtube) so do watch that.

Really that bad?
Watched some trailers and it looked good with a nice dark atmosphere.

@Morphineus

I disagree, it's not that bad, I've seen much worse. If not only for backstory the visuals are worth it IMO. It's waste of time for anyone who isn't gonna play FFXV though.

I would say it's required viewing since the game hardly give you any info about those events. It's not a very good movie in any way but it's entertaining enough to sit through one time.

Yeah it's not the BEST movie around, however it was enjoyable for me and made me more invested in the game itself.

So I would recommend watching it.

Well for me it was bad, but mostly because it went on too long. You'll need it if you want to learn the backstory but reading a synopsis would be fine, or at least I wish I just read a synopsis.

If you have time to kill, then I guess you can watch it, or even have it on a second monitor if you're doing something else.

Just finished the Anime. It was actually pretty nice and i guess it will make the characters more likeable in the game.
Because just from watching gameplay videos, they really just seemed like some hipster boygroup. Very Happy

And regarding the movie: I still have it in my backlog and will definately watch it at one point. But not for now. Smile

Wanted to start playing this.
And just in the beginning where you push the car, i get an out of memory error. Laughing
I wasn't doing anything but pressing forward, but the VRAM usage kept rising like crazy. Till it reached 8GB and crashed.

What the fuck?

dont set everything to ultra. deactivate gameworks shadowlibs and set shadows to the second high settings. vram usage will drop from maxxed out 8gb (which shouldnt result in crashes but constant massive framedrops when it rebuffers) to little above 4gb @ fullhd with everything else set to max (without the hd pack!)

Just finished the game (story)...

Jeezus fooking christ this game is a mess. Pace, story and tone is all over the place. Doesn't help that they don't know how to end a game. I think it's about 5 more 'endings' after the games end scene.

It started of bad, then it became good and after Altissia it just got worse and worse, felt like it was unfinished and badly cobbled together. Oh and how fucking linear it got at that point, it was a drag. At the end you also get side-quests thrown at you that do absolutely nothing or don't make sense, mentions of places/people you'll meet up but you never go there or see them from that point on...

I'll go back to play the middle of the game which is the most fun and I missed out on quests/hunts/dungeons since I thought we'd get back some time. That last half of the game really left a bad taste though.

Don't buy this game unless you can get it cheap...
(still way better than XIII though )

^^ this sums it up pretty well. also just finished it today and while it's certainly better than XIII (which is not particularly hard), it looks almost like the devs wanted to fuck up a perfectly fine game.

it started off so nice - almost like a holiday roadtrip to the midwest to finally get some pussy with the certain knowledge that shits hits the fan sooner or later, the characters are surprisingly not too cringeworthy. combat looks like a nice change, although i'd have preffered it if they just had stuck the hack'n'slash gameplay on the pretty solid XII gambit "core", since 3/4 of your party feels useless.

story is ok. let's grab those royal weapons and summons like in every FF game. bit of drama, who the fuck is the guy with the hat, sidequests are mostly the usual timewasters. yay, chocobos.

then you get to altissia and it's fucking great, best mid-way climax in a FF game for a while - apart from VII, which they blatantly tried to copy, but without the hour-long emotional investment into a character and thus leaving a weird aftertaste.

aaaaand it goes straight south from there. plot holes (with the DLC filling in a bit, but that cashgrab is another story), pacing, open world is completely shut off and the last ~2-3 hours are a complete and utter mess. by that point the combat system is boring as shit and you're either underleveled and with short supplies (and thus fucked) or if you did a dozen hunts or so before you're bord out of your skull with bosses being bullet sponges and the party being almost immortal thanks to the weird health system.

and ultimately, it's not an epic quest, but just the story of

Well the story was loosely inspired by Hamlet so there was no other way for it to end anyway, i wish they had better writers and the story wasn't so rushed i find the idea of a Hamlet adaption (or other classics FFXII does something similar with "The Hidden Fortress" for example) in this kind of setting pretty intriguing if done well which clearly isn't the case here.
