The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Took a peek at Gamesradar review, and the way they word things, it makes it sound like the game world/gameplay progression is Legacy of Kain'esque, in that you'll need certain tools, obtained not in order, to proceed forward in the game.

Metroidvania games generally feature a large interconnected world map the player can explore, though access to parts of the world is often limited by doors or other obstacles that can only be passed once the player has acquired special items, tools, weapons or abilities within the game. Acquiring such improvements can also aid the player in defeating more difficult enemies and locating shortcuts and secret areas, and often includes retracing one's steps across the map.

YEP! The combat is so satisfying. The graphics and effects are fantastic. The best looking game easily.

Haha yea, me too in the beginning, died on the first encounter cuz I wasn't prepared to go Souls-mode. The game is definitely alot more about proper placement and feels like a Souls game without Stamina bar on this setting.
While I do enjoy the challenge and the game is not too hard on the setting, the enemies are a bit too bullet-spongey on this setting and I fear it may ruin the overall great pacing of the game, maybe I'll just play it on normal first and then the other 2 settings afterwards.
I might be there. There's encounters where enemies just keep coming and the lock-on/dodging isn't as snappy as you want it to be. Also a lot of the enemies are just FAST so your combos just don't work. I'm past the first boss and there's like three encounters in a row where you're just running a gauntlet of enemies. If you die. . .do it all from the beginning. It doesn't help that some of these arenas are small as hell.
. . .the problem is, that "Normal" mode the enemies seem to die TOO fast. I"m looking at some streamers and their attacks do massive damage, and the stun meter basically fills in like two hits. There's no achievement for beating the game on any particular difficulty level, but man I don't want to moonwalk my way through the game, while also not wanting to bang my head against the wall on this early stuff.
Yea I also just reached the area after the first boss fight, you do spend quite a bit of time on certain encounters. The difference between normal and hard seems to be quite big, enemies only take half the hits on normal and you take twice the hits.
I guess it will get quicker once we gain access to more skills and upgrades, but currently I am thinking it may be the better choice to play on normal the first time and then go straight to highest difficulty on 2nd playthrough.
So I restarted a check point and it seems like you might do the same amount of damage, but the enemies have half health and do less damage to you. The Heavy Draugrs went from 4 Orange Bars to 2 Yellow Bars going from Challenge to Normal.
I think I'll turn off tooltips to make the game more "fair" because Challenge is a bit much right now (Poison bitch, plus Heavies and then ANOTHER wave of projectile motherfuckers. . .ugh).
EDIT: Actually. . .just keep trucking on Challenge. It'll get easier once you get out of the ruins.
