From what I've read, it's for the sake of OEM, there's no difference.

Yeah that seems to be the case. "Here you go, brand new X-Rated Polaris GPU's."
"It might be a bit old by now but boy does it suck!...wait."

Well if OEM's want to market AMD 500 X-Rated for their all-inclusive systems that's what AMD will provide.

And now they have a clear path for those lower binned chips no-one wants. Very Happy

I think this is what the coming RX are about - an answer to Nvidia GPP:
Quote:
• A dedication to open innovation – AMD works tirelessly to advance PC gaming through close collaboration with hardware standards bodies, API and game developers, making our technologies available to all to help further the industry. Through our collaboration with JEDEC on memory standards like HBM and HBM2, Microsoft on DirectX and Khronos on Vulkan, and through the GPUOpen initiative where we provide access to a comprehensive collection of visual effects, productivity tools, and other content at no cost, we’re enabling the industry to the benefit of gamers.

• A commitment to true transparency through industry standards – Through industry standards like AMD FreeSync technology, we’re providing the PC ecosystem with technologies that significantly enhance gamers’ experiences, enabling partners to adopt them at no cost to consumers, rather than penalizing gamers with proprietary technology “taxes” and limiting their choice in displays.

• Real partnerships with real consistency – We work closely with all our AIB partners, so that our customers are empowered with the best, high-performance, high quality gaming products and technologies available from AMD. No anti-gamer / anti-competitive strings attached.

• Expanding the PC gaming ecosystem – We create open and free game development technologies that enable the next generation of immersive gaming experiences across PC and console ecosystems. These efforts have resulted in advancements such as AMD FreeSync adoption on TVs for Xbox One S or X, integration of forward looking “Vega” architecture features and technologies into Far Cry 5 without penalizing the competition, and inclusion of open sourced AMD innovations into the Vulkan API which game developers can adopt freely.

I feel confused about AMD and their GPUs.
For example Asus and the new AREZ cards:
https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/AREZ-Series-Products/

7 variants from one brand for just the RX 580. Laughing

not rip amd, but ofc asus is joining the nvidia program. they not even just renaming all amd cards to arez but they remove their name from them too. its not asus arez rx3423423423 just arez rx324234234. its most likely a loophole in nvidias terms for the partnerprogram. it would be rip amd if they had (and others too) to drop all amd cards from their portfolio (like it was years ago, many oems were forced to only release either green or a red cards)

rumors to the new turing (so no volta gaming gpu?) cards are as expected, the same stuff as always. new top tier card even bypasses the older titan

Miners are gonna love this card, low power consumption and high performance, gamers are going to get fucked in the ass hard. 1080ti owners are getting slight boost, but nothing worthwhile to actually "upgrade" (same scenario as 980ti when GTX 1080 came). I always upgrade when new Ti hits to stores, nvidia first rip´s off people money with cut down chips, then they release their monster stuff for same price.

It won't be so hard up to middle segment (i.e. 1050-Ti). It used to be the segment where most of the money lies (before the crypto cataclysm).

AMD hasn't released any drivers so far this month. They were planning to sync their next drivers with W10 next feature update, but Microsoft ended up delaying it, which led to AMD delaying their drivers. It's about to resume.

Elsewhere: this doesn't mean much, but here's a leaked benchmark for a new Vega card. Also videocardz.

Pulling the Plug on GPP, Leaning into GeForce
Quote:
A lot has been said recently about our GeForce Partner Program. The rumors, conjecture and mistruths go far beyond its intent. Rather than battling misinformation, we have decided to cancel the program.

GPP had a simple goal – ensuring that gamers know what they are buying and can make a clear choice.

NVIDIA creates cutting-edge technologies for gamers. We have dedicated our lives to it. We do our work at a crazy intense level – investing billions to invent the future and ensure that amazing NVIDIA tech keeps coming. We do this work because we know gamers love it and appreciate it. Gamers want the best GPU tech. GPP was about making sure gamers who want NVIDIA tech get NVIDIA tech.

With GPP, we asked our partners to brand their products in a way that would be crystal clear. The choice of GPU greatly defines a gaming platform. So, the GPU brand should be clearly transparent – no substitute GPUs hidden behind a pile of techno-jargon.

Most partners agreed. They own their brands and GPP didn’t change that. They decide how they want to convey their product promise to gamers. Still, today we are pulling the plug on GPP to avoid any distraction from the super exciting work we’re doing to bring amazing advances to PC gaming.

This is a great time to be a GeForce partner and be part of the fastest growing gaming platform in the world. The GeForce gaming platform is rich with the most advanced technology. And with GeForce Experience, it is “the way it’s meant to be played.”

Isn’t it ironic that AMD has just started “Freedom of Choice in PC Gaming” marketing campaign (in response to GPP), only to limit the choice of customers at the same time?
Good guy AMD Cool Face Razz
But it's common between amd and nvidia to have brands exclusive to certain markets, oh well

That was a joke, men Poker Face

Still too early to have an idea of how it will compare... IIRC a 1070 inched out the previous derptan in performance, and that titan had around x2 the performance of a gtx970. So when data is available comparing the 1180 to a 1070 you'll have your answer

...kinda

Ah, it's that time of the year again... DV2 posting links to Spanish articles, instead of directly linking the English-written source it is based on, while asking people to provide the exact performance characteristics for non-existent hardware.

I mean, it's pretty obvious it is going to be exactly 210 faster than a 970. The clue is in the name!
We are on track to finally catching up with the GTX 9800 in some 90 years!
