A week ago a friend's brother was defending consoles at a BBQ while slamming the PC - I said the PC was the cheapest gaming device since the extra cost on top of a decent basic PC (which everyone owns) is just €200-300 (although the Bitcoin craze is partly responsible for it no longer being 100-200) which makes it far cheaper when you factor in the yearly online fees + the expensive games.
He called me crazy but how often do classic console games get given away for free? TW1 is a brilliant game despite its age and if you look around and decide to buy zero games, you can still easily find enough free games and F2P games to last you a life time.

I know PS4 users get free games every months with the PS+ subscription. Though it's not exactly the same as free giveaways on PC, but i think PS+ is needed anyways if you want to play online?

I have PS+ but the moment you stop paying, you lose access so they're not free. It's more like Netflix. Don't get me wrong, I love PS+ (although I hate how they dropped PS3 and Vita since this month) but it's a "pay for life" service so while the yearly cost is low, you still got to keep paying. When, X years from now, they'll discontinue the servers, you'll lose all those games. I wonder how long it will be before the PS3 games will disappear now that they stopped giving PS3 games. Sony and Nintendo are notoriously bad at this.

My point is that the cost of software on PC is so much cheaper that it pays the hardware back whichever way you look at it.
