Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Won't Dry appears briefly on Steam Is Larry Laffer about to make a comeback?
Quote:
The most recent Leisure Suit Larry game, a remake of the 1987 original, was released in 2013; prior to that he had the presciently-named Box Office Bust in 2009, and Magna Cum Laude (sigh) in 2004. So it's safe to say that the last thing the world needs, or wants, is a new Leisure Suit Larry release. We might be getting one anyway.
A listing for something called Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don't Dry (presumably a "clever" take on D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die) appeared briefly over the weekend on Steam. It was quickly taken down but not before being noticed by sites like DSOGaming, and of course it was all captured for posterity by Google Cache.
In this instance, "all" doesn't amount to much: The package includes a $30 price and a release date of October 24, but the developer and publisher aren't listed. There may be nothing to it, in other words—just somebody having a little fun. (More fun than anyone had playing Box Office Bust, most likely.) But Leisure Suit Larry does have the benefit of name recognition, if nothing else, and in the hands of the right developer it could be turned into something genuinely clever. It's a long shot, yes, but anything is possible.
Al Lowe's been in retirement a while now. That, combined with the fucked up experience he had with the guy creating the Leisure Suit Larry 1 remake that was Kickstarted, I really doubt he'd be hopping onboard for a fresh game. And make no mistake - without Al Lowe's humor behind it, any new game would be destined to fail.
Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love For Sail brings me back to my fondest childhood memories. Leisure Suit Larry's Casino, despite not having Lowe attached to it, was also a fun little gambling game. Anyone remember the WON Network?

Interesting. I always felt as if LSL got a bad rap for being "sexist" and having "toilet humor" but for me it was more like Benny Hill (tongue in cheek) since Larry always ended up getting dumped or slapped or abused.
In fact, I loved LSL 2 & 3. The atmosphere was amazing for a game that old - with a few colours they made quite a fun world to explore. The puzzles were meh and you really needed UHS (universal hint system) to prevent you from making a game-stopping mistake but other than that, I really enjoyed them. LSL 5 was the first LSL I played and is good too but LSL 6 is probably the best adventure as a game of all of them. LSL 7 wasn't bad either but the style didn't quite work for me.
As for this game - I'm curious. The graphics don't look too bad although Larry is barely recognisable but the puzzles and dialogue will be vital.
Yeah at a glance it looks like that but it's often portrayed with Larry being on the receiving end at least until Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust without Al Love involved. (Think that's part of the design idea behind the games actually, Larry is a bit of a loser.)
(Hell even if Larry gets the girl the sequel always started with him in a bad situation.)
This could be OK but we'll see. Looks like Larry is back to his older proportions too but mixed with the more cartoon appearance from 5 and onward's.
(Which could also be a bit more forgiving about dead ends and locking you into a bad end for missing a item way earlier in traditional Sierra style ha ha.)
So far it's not looking too terrible at least. Then again that's comparing against Box Office and Magna Cum Laude.
Doesn't seem like things went too well with the Larry 1 Remake either or the team behind it rather and Al splitting with them but I guess he's not involved at all here.

Same here, cautiously curious about this.
LSL Reloaded wasn't a bad game per se, but it didn't exactly live up to my expectations: it lacked a thick layer of polish, didn't try to improve on the original formula and constantly put into your face that "this game got kickstarted !1!".. and most of all, it was only a remake, not a brand new original adventure.
Let's hope this brings us back to the good old times Thimbleweed Park was a pleasant surprise, I'm hoping for the same !
It was great to see a live action trailer of Leisure Suit Larry, until the guy threw the tagline at the end - what the fuck was that voice? That wasn't Larry. Larry was always the lovable loser, you always felt sorry for 'em when he didn't get the girl despite everything he went through. This guy they picked to voice him just sounds like a douchebag.

Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry will launch for PC via Steam and other digital platforms on November 7, publisher Assemble Entertainment and developer Crazybunch Studios announced.
Looks and sounds awful. It's pissing on the legacy of an awesome franchise. They made Larry look like a lanky fucker with AIDS, and sound like a complete douchebag.
