A quick question, what would you buy:

-a new Samung Evo 750 500 GB for 107 EUR

or

- a used Samsung Evo 850 500 GB for 114 EUR

For what it's worth, I totally recommend them 850 Evos. Really good and fast SSDs for the price. And that VNand has gotten alot of praise. And you really get the speeds that are advertised contrary to many other SSD manufacturers and models.

+1 Bought myself an 850 a few weeks back and no complaints. It's super fast and well priced.

hey guys

they're buying a new pc for me but,

since my job's retailer has no samsung, here are the options for SSD:

- Crucial SSD 240GB Crucial® BX200 SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD, EAN: 649528774132 $90
- Intel SSD 540s Series (240GB, 2.5in SATA 6Gb/s, 16nm, TLC) Reseller Single Pack $120
- Kingston 240GB HyperX FURY SSD SATA 3 2.5 (7mm height), EAN: 740617232479 $108 or SAVAGE for $132

I'm leaning towards the Intel one, as it comes with 5y warranty
but it's using SK Hynix 16nm TLC NAND, soo I'm not sure how reliable it is

yes but it has only 24m of warranty, while the Intel has 60m

for work data that might be important

"work data" should be backed up always at a safe space. only cause intel gives warranty of 60months instead of crucial "only" giving standard 24 months doenst say the chances that the crucial dies are higher than that the intel ssd dies.

and i havent seen a single ssd dying in the last years (except some crappy stuff from ocz), only building samsung, crucial and sandisks into system. never heard of a problem

The Western Digital WD Black 3D NAND SSD Review: EVO Meets Its Match
Quote:
Western Digital is bringing 3D NAND to their high-end consumer SSD family with the launch today of two new NVMe SSDs featuring SanDisk's 64-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory. As with the SATA SSDs that first brought 3D NAND to their consumer portfolio, Western Digital is releasing the same drive under both their WD and SanDisk brands. Under the stickers, the hardware is identical.

[...]

Western Digital's long years working to develop 3D NAND and their new NVMe controller have paid off. They're once again a credible contender in the high end space, and their latest SATA SSDs are doing pretty well, too. This year's SSD market now has serious competition in almost every price bracket.

How about the intel optane 900p 280 GB. Only 280 GB but fastest random access performance. This as a system drive, and another SSD for the rest? Very Happy

Hopefully price will drop even more. Not enough space for games in my current SSD and loading times in The Witcher 3 are getting on my nerves after "accidental death" Laughing

https://www.amazon.com/Micron-1100-SATA-2-5-inch-MTFDDAK2T0TBN-1AR1ZABYY/dp/B01LB05YOO

think it was this one back then for 250 euro , now 300 usd. , not sure

but everyone last 2-3 years in hardware is just getting ripped off with mining and natural disasters as excuse, i bet these hardware companies and phone companies all are involved and they have some storage facilities filled with stuff they rather not sell to keep price high
