Half-Life 2 had a narrative but it was subtle and non-intrusive. It's primarly an action game centered around set pieces, much like its predecessor.

a thing which the original did a SO much better job at, IMHO. the parts of the story where you ally up with alyx and she orders you what to do really sucked the free-range narrative right out of the game. i think all of these games mentioned really fail the story-telling aspect by feeling way too scripted at one point or another. its too bad devs are so focused on delivering the biggest wham-bang experience and not delivering in terms of interactive story-telling. which really isnt all their fault to be fair, how the gaming biz is these days.

FPS games had always scripted parts in the game. More than any other gender imo. You follow a story and reach the end of the game. Let's see how good stalker will be, as a mmofps game.

stalker is not a mmofps game. If I'm correct it's a FPS/RPG, the online part is just the shooting

Maybe you are right. I remember the trading part with other stalkers for weapons/armor/etc. I wish its for online rather than single player.

This engine is insane, definately surpasses unreal3 engine in terms of visual quality from what we've seen until now. The story of the game itself sounds a bit cheesy from the little thats known till now, but the devs said they have a professional storyscripter, maybe it'll get more spectacular later on. They also removed thr plastic look of the characters which was in far cry, the whole game looks a lot grittier now...

Looks like deciding to wait for DX10 to upgrade the computer was the right choice Smile wheeee

Looks pretty good. Loved the first few parts of the game, right up until you realize there are monsters. If they had somehow made it without the monsters it would have been infinitely better. IMHO.

of course it loos better than Unreal3 engine.
just compare the new video to the UT20007 video at GC where they played a level.
UT2007 wasnt that impressive at all.
the softshadows and plants alone looks so incredible.

Blah.

Great engine or not (and that is debatable - because whilst it technically may be, viscerally it's style is a subjective one. I personally disliked the plastic and washed out ambience) the real reason I'd keep a game on my hard-drive is gameplay.

Farcry was just like any other run of the mill shooter. Boring. If you're a casual gamer you might like to waste your time on things like that but I personally want to play something with a little more substance.

The engine here in the screenshots above looks amazing. The lighting in particular. But graphics do not make games and invariably the teams that create the 'best' engines fail to do anything constructive with them.

Besides, the team behind the UT engine is the best. It's scalable to practically all hardware and furthermore looks and moves amazingly regardless.

i see where ur coming from i enjoyed far cry for a third of the game untill those trygens got involved, took out any interest the game had for me. i like shooters even mindless ones, i think u gotta get out of the analyzing mode to really enjoy the game but if ur still thinking about how a game compares to others then its probly not good and isnt imersing u in the gameplay. so Far Cry, great concept, tecnically good, but not presented well. nothing new when u see whats out there in shooter games.

I played the demo of farcry and i found that I didn't like the overall feel of the game. It was like shoot somebody with a gun you can't hear, get swarmed and your ass kicked. This one I will give a chance, just hope my precious 9600 won't give out on me.

Hmm.. In any case, it beats spending 500$ now and 500$ when dx10 games start coming that will be handicapped without hardware support... Especially since... I don't have that much money.

On the other hand, I would certainly not be surprised if a game or two come out in time for christmas using dx10 features...

relax man they only going to publish the game... crytek doing the game... EA also going to publish that hl2 aftermath you dont see that game fucked up... in both cases the devs got the money for the game elsewhere instead of getting money from the publisher...

I have downloaded that interactive benchmark demo... from crytek engine.
It looks amazingly sharp, and the faces of the people ingame are almost real.
The positive about this all is, that I get 60 a 65 FPS with mt geforce 7800 GT.
So this means that my card will last for a couple of years. Well spend money.
