by objects, they mean movable objects, the rest of shadows are still there(the walls, earth have shadows from torches/sun/moon/clouds, boxes, tables, chairs aswell)

I think we need a better comparison... the german video i agree was probably poorly captured and peoples on other forums (Beth) say that it was in fact taken with a lower setting. So the gfx may not have changed that significantly. Hopefully they release a new vid or some new screenshots under the new shadow system, and then all this B.S. can be settled, no point in argueing.

Yeah probably so, but trees aren't movable objects, are they? Why are they separately mentioned then? That implies that trees are the only exception to the rule.
Hope Bethesda has the balls to make a clear statement about all this, instead of some forum messages which can be interpreted in many ways.

You canceled your pre-order for that? That's a technologic choice for the engine and i'm sure you will be able to turn it back on with the console anyway.
I'm currently doing some research on shadows in real time graphics at my college in quebec. The shadow voulme z-fail technique (ak "carmack reverse") who has been used in doom3 and others games, including oblivion e3 demo i guess is the only one with sharp result who always work. Unfortunaly, this method include rendering 3 times every shadow casting objects. Look at the scene in the screen shot... *3 = looooot of vertices. After that you need soft shadows; every face who has a shadow casted on it need it's texture blurred by a pixel shader. Reducing the number of objects who cast shadow is the only possible way of running the game on the majority of hardware.
Sure you 7800 may handle it and I believe they should let "oevery objects cast shadow" as an option. I doubt they completly deleted the code and as I said before maybe a simple console command may enable it.
edit.. fuck i'm too stone I just read my reply and my english really suck

It's not a togglable thing. The shadows for the objects that have been taken out can't be turned on in menu options or anywhere else(that means the ini file also, unlike Morrowind, in wich u would apply as many shadows as you would like, for every object in the game, making the game look awesome, even for today's standards, but few people know about this option).
The game will be released in march, no matter what. They either release it in the first fiscal trimester, or in december or not at all.
Don't worry, the game will still look awesome, and besides, u don't buy this game to be an alternative to 3dMark, to see how many fps u can squeeze out, it's intended to be an RPG, wich fewer and fewer these days know what it means. It means it has to have playability, immersion, controls, ideas and then graphics.

One crappy word - XBOX180.
Consoles always negatively impact high-profile titles.

GOD DAMN CONSOLES!!! They are the bane of our pc gaming goodness experience! At least the GameCube can have a game made for it that ISN'T GOING show up on the PC. That's the way consoles were and should be. Microsoft and Sony have ruined PC gaming! PC gaming was always free to do what it was able to do. There were never any walls to stop PC gaming from achieving it's highest potential. I like Nintendo, they stay away from that. It's companies like EA and Microsoft that create games for all consoles and PC together. Don't create a GOD DAMN game for all platforms if all platforms cannot play it at full DETAIL!!!!
It's just wrong!

non-sequiter ?
X360 has gimped shadows too.
Plus you don't get the construction set and all the tasty fan mods.
Consoles are good for some stuff.
1 vs 1 fighting games.
Driving games.
But not RPGs imo.
I do not hail Caesar

Bah, your such gfx whores. The gameplay can still be revolutionary. Like the traps and things combined with the last game. I think this gonna own more than Morrowind.

Quit whinging here, for heaven's sake. 90% of you guys don't even have the equipment to run this thing on max details anyway, now you seriously start caring about those damn shadows which would make the game even more laggy on your rigs than it's already gonna be? That's just ridiculous.
This console war shit is really getting uber annoying.
(I don't care, I'm gonna get both versions anyway)

One thing. Go look at the screenshot page for Oblivion on http://www.elderscrolls.com/art/obliv_pc_screens_01.htm
It looks great, no? Now, all those screenshots were taken WITHOUT shadows. There aren't any shadows in the screenshots or the videos(except the E3 one, with the ribcage). S i don't see the problem here. If You liked the screenshots and the videos, and they weren't taken/made with the shadows on, why do you say it looks worse now?

The game hasn't been stripped down for shit. Yeah, they removed a couple of features, but everything else is there. Some of the people here are greatly exagerrating the state of Oblivion.
