I put this in 2 sections coz i wasnt sure which section was better.
Got a friend who does alot of online business stuff shares etc... and wants to have like a bunch of protection on his pc so he wont get viruses/hacked...
Atm the laptop stands with the follow
Winxp sp2.
Firefox
MS antispyware
Nod32 antivirus
Zonealarm
Does Daily adaware scans And web eraser on startup
Uses roboforms for secure passwords
And uses a modem router for internet.
Only things ive thought of for suggestions is a linux firewall. And if not using linux itself as his base of OS kinda thing.. Any other possible programs you think he should be running?

If he really wants to have a secure pc. You could always install 2 Windows XP on different partitions. So you have one FUN partition for gaming, and surfing untrusted sites.
And one for work and using it only for workrelated sites.
I think this (including a properly configured Firewall, antivirus (and antiadware)) is the ultimate protection you can achive on windows XP. Although it requires some selfdiscipline.

well depends how paranoid he is… he can use drivecrypt to encrypt hdd, hide the OS and use a strong pre boot password, he can also use bestcrypt to wipe data so he's sure that nothing is going to be retrieved from the hdds, he can use an anonymous proxy to browse the internet, simplite for msn/aim/icq encryption, bnc for the irc… and I can keep going… depends what he does and what he wants

i think you need run this programs to get the best security (i run part of them too)
windows xp pro sp2, nod32 antivirus, zonealarm firewall, spy sweeper, trojanhunter, microsoft antispyware, firefox explorer and thunderbrd for email (if u need it). this all things overload computer... but it worthwhile. and set password for administrator account. and use other account without administrator access (for internet browsing and other things, no many things need a administrator account)
that is... i think.
p.s: recommended to active system restore option in your windows xp... it's help me many times.
