You got me! Now the mainstream media will realize I'm a chameleon and will hunt me down. My blog's viewership will be destroyed. Oh wait... Laughing Laughing

Politics in gaming is a sensitive subject. I don't mind games using politics as a narrative devices. But the writers have to know when to draw the line in order to avoid the story turning into a personal crusade or into material for someone else's crusade. I guess this is why very few video games use modern politics in their narrative and they do it in an ambiguous or neutral way.
But here we are not talking about this. We are just shifting Cyberpunk 2077 thread from a hyping ground (Very Happy) to a clash of political ideologies and whatnot.

The most common argument for BFV is historical accuracy since it's based on WW2

Cyberpunk is a fictional setting and I'm sure the majority of people would agree that transhumanism (and everything surrounding it) is something that should (and probably will) be dealt with. Obviously. Simply by looking at the trailer. Regardless, there is no evidence for Cyberpunk or how it will deal with diversity.

Are people (excuse his hyperbole) 'losing their minds' for the same reasons? No. Is the argument the same? No. And finally how can we have an equivalency for something we know nothing about in this regard?

"Historical accuracy" was just a cover for "not more diversity." I'm not sure if you're just being willfully obtuse here. If you really think that the underlying cause of contention in both situations is a reaction to diversity in gaming, then there really isn't anything more that can be said here.

I highly doubt this, especially when we don't fight wars like that now.

Isn't Aftobladet known for its inflammatory headlines, very akin to the UK tabloids ? Like, you shouldn't take their headlines for granted, ever ?
Wasn't this study completely debunked and only caused commotion in nationalist groups, heavily relayed by them to social media in the first place ?
The researcher made a lot of mistakes and the university should have resisted the free publicity that hypothesis gave them, but there's a whole lot of difference between "the state rewriting history and being revisionist" and this mishap on behalf of one research team.
Where did you see that school books now tell that Vikings prayed to Allah ?

Like i said, it was debunked, yet no notice of this or fixing the now outdated articles (usually they will add a small notice that something was found to be wrong in the article) in any major newspaper, they all continue to spread it.

http://grundskoleboken.se/vikingatid/kapitel/vikingarna_och_islam/index.php

a book used for elementary school (the link in Swedish means TheElementarySchoolBook). They spread this.. it was actually the first hit on google for me when tried to look for a source to give you on the subject Wink

The "school book", which doesn't seem official at all to me and definitely is a wikipedia-like website with community contributions of various qualities ( found pages fully copy/pasted or sourced from Wikipedia, I doubt that's in school manuals ) aimed for students and teachers.
The "school book" also has a rather.. interesting preface ( http://grundskoleboken.se/vikingatid/ > Bokinformation ) which I can't imagine would be in a school manual - even in Sweden.
Still, regardless of this website not being an official source for school programs, I'll trust you that this information is in Swedish official school programs, but it speaks of a rather different subject.

It speaks of small numbers of Vikings settling in Andalusia, a part of which are said to have converted to Islam either by restraint or choice according to a Persian source from the 16th century that's easy to find. It wouldn't be that surprising if that happened considering a number of expatriates also converted to christianism ( but that information doesn't sell paper for some reason ), but let's not pretend we're historians and that we can reliably check the sources out by ourselves.
Since that book is a private personal work, I guess I can't expect the level of rigour I'd have from an actually peer-reviewed publication, it's honestly pretty poorly written, even if it's aimed at children.

Still, it's a completely different subject from that misinterpreted archaeological discovery made in Sweden, which claimed that burial clothes found in mainland Sweden had muslim references on them ( could have been explained by someone going to muslim-dominated regions and returning influenced/converted, but isn't even close to "All Vikings prayed to Allah" either ). This got interpreted by shit newspapers such as Aftonbaldet as "Vikings were Muslim in Sweden", and that understandably irritated you.. but if it smells like bullshit, looks like bullshit.. it usually is.
I'll also trust you on Aftobaldet not issuing an erratum of any sort, since the original article is behind a paywall and that there are no other articles about the subject. The formidable era of Internet news Sad

Yep, some researchers integrate their political bias into their research like the one who made this false claim before her work was reviewed, and it's increasingly becoming an issue.

/ Off-topic done, sorry everyone, we can take it to PMs if you'd like to discuss this further vurt Smile

Not only that but we all should also get to re-spawn after getting killed in a war, just like in the game.

They have a deadline (a stipulation cited in the subsidy granted by the Polish govnmt) stating that the game which the subsidy will be spent on has to be released in 2019. Then again they probably can get an extension but thats just the legal aspect of it.

P.S. Also it falls right in their 4 year wait...If you look there is always a 4 year gap between their games.

Witcher - 2007

Witcher 2 - 2011

Witcher 3 - 2015

Cyberpunk 2077 - 2019 (?)

This is pure speculation of course...

It was only for some of the game tools (mechanics). All the different things that CDP Red applied for were seamless multi, city creation, cinematic feel and animation excellence. Not sure if one, two, three or all were sponsored.
We can easily assume subsided tools were/will be finished in time, not when the game releases therefore the time requirements are met.

EDIT: Also those tools/mechanics don't have to apply to Cyberpunk 2077. It may be for something different. I doubt it though.

True, but then why show it to journo's... no never mind. Clearly game journalists are dedicated to reporting the truth about game development, and wouldn't ever thinkof masking the bad things to only show the good things, nor would they take any sort of... encouragement to report how awesome the game is. Nope, none of that ever happens.

If they're not ready to show the world what they've done so far, that should include game websites. After all, if it isn't finished, and it isn't in a state that they feel comfortable showing to the public, then what real benefit is there is showing a select few?

Because, as evidenced by how many people are talking about it here and elsewhere, it's a more effective way of generating hype than showing the public directly.

Big-ass game journos with a reputation of their own are a lot easier to negotiate with than your average reddit user.

Even when they're not ready to fully show the game to the public(netizens); actually releasing a game in the near future is very, very important to them for business. Hence this is a good way to generate hype(as DCB mentioned) and reassurance for the potential buyers that the game is indeed being worked on towards a release date.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

I meant to respond to this last week but forgot.

I don't think gaming journalists are exactly reliable right now, their credibility is falling daily, and giving exclusive viewings in exchange for glowing reports isn't going to be quite so productive for much longer.
