Games using procedural content must develop a much more advanced generator that does more than create geography with some stuff dropped here and there.

Is this another free update, or is this more of a sequel?
I might try it, if it's free, but I'll probably get bored again after 30 minutes Very Happy

I never saw those lush planets that were shown in the original NMS demo's either, so my expectations are around 0.

Wish they would do proper forests. The trees in this game are a little taller than a character. A rather common mistake in games for some reason (Morrowind was terrible too, and made me start modding to fix it..). It has gotten a lot better in recent years though. Maybe the designer(s) should go outside once in a while..

They can get away with few trees and still make proper, dense and old forests. Just make them around 2x larger (which doesn't do anything to performance) and it will look much more dense. Its something i've done in quite a few of my mods, people think i placed a ton more trees.

The story was overhauled with Atlas Rises.. but yeah i think the main goal is still the same, which i don't really mind.. not sure if it's worse than your usual "save mankind!" ordeal or "find all your ship parts!"

I hope they continue to upgrade it, the concept is certainly worth it.. personally i just want more surprise elements - loot, enemies, more varied quests.. they're so close to having something exceptionally great but after 30h+ it did get dull.

Aaaand bought (cdkeys was half the price).

It needs to get better but it does not just drop things randomly, it drop things accordingly to certain settings.. For example some things will only spawn under ground etc, but to me it got boring because no matter the planet the underground areas seemed to spawn the same stuff, above ground is better.

Two years after a universally lambasted and horrific release - not only do they have the gall to continue to list it at full price on Steam - but even at close to 51,000 negative reviews it's managing to chart #6 on the Steam Top Seller's List.

This is why we can't have nice things. Throw a little marketing flare on a new trailer announcing that all is made right and the past is totally forgiven! People are such fucking idiots...

It was always obvious to me that the game would suck at launch, like so many other games today. I avoided it like the plague and waited.

I still buy Bethesda games even though i know since Morrowind there's been lies and over-exaggerations from them. In the end i mostly care about if it ends up as something i like or not. Unlike for example Bethesda and tons of other game devs, they're making things right at least. Some time after NEXT they've said we're getting smaller weekly updates (based on user feedback + hotfixes) + there will be more bigger updates.

If you buy games at release, pre-order games or back kickstarter projects (which i've done numerous times, often regretting it) you're an idiot and you might deserve being screwed until you learn a thing or two. If you buy games you end up liking and see a ton of potential in + you also see that they actually care about the product and listen to user feedback, then you're probably doing something right.

Steam is really expensive overall, i got the game at 50% off from cdkeys, i'm not sure why anyone would buy from steam to be honest, apart from when it's sale.

@Silent_Lurker : I think the idea is to compare the older footage with the new.. it's not like he's trying to trick anyone, this footage is all too well known..

Gameplay (xbone one)

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/90kmln/10_minute_gameplay/

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/90lhrq/more_leaked_next_gameplay_dont_mind_the_quality/

Nice, the trees actually has proper height now, scale is overall better.

Draw distance is drastically improved, that grainy look where it builds up the distant landscape seems to be removed completely (much needed). Bet it will be even better on PC.

Really liked the underwater footage

5 races to choose from, 10 various presets for each race + 8 individual parts of the character that can be tweaked - way better than i think anyone expected.

NPC's are still static, just standing around, disappointing.

The GAME is still shockingly crap however, doesn't matter how much shit they throw at it, the core gameplay is terrible, and nothing they're doing here is changing that in any meaningful way.

Besides, I'm still hung up on the incredible amount of lies told during and AFTER release. Skybox, anyone?

Crap in comparison to which space exploration game? Do you even like the genre?

But sure, Murray was either overly confident or lying to create hype to sell the game. The game sold extremely well and Sony was happy, they let them continue to develop it and it's not stopping with NEXT. The truth is game devs are assholes, its nothing uncommon, they use any means necessary, sometimes just to get rich, but sometimes because they want their "baby" to succeed no matter what, even if it takes lying. I have no love for the Witcher game devs either, but i still bought the damn game because it's great, in the end its what matters to me.

Missions fleet:
"What’s cool about it is the way they go about it is they actually go to those places and they warp out, but if you warp out out after them, you can follow along with them. Sometimes, they will call you with major decisions. They will be sending back reports. They can get destroyed, or they can come back damaged. And you can fly over to them, land on them, you can walk around inside them and repair them."

I'll definitely go back to playing it now.

well everyone loves a good game dev villain.. turns out he's more like Santa Claus - plot ruined!

seriously though, its a fucking game and we see this again and again and often without the dev fixing their mess, so yeah give it a break.

No Man's Sky should definitely serve as a cautionary tale on how NOT to market a game. There are some good interviews with Sean this week, in one he mentions how great it was when being interviewed, how it wasn't scripted and was more like a conversation. Then later realizing what a huge mistake that was.

People like to compare Murray to Molyneux, but it isn't even close. Read up on Godus, that is the story of a truly habitual liar.

That being said, it is ok not to like this game. It can be a bit shallow, and the 'loop' is pretty easy to see, but no one has been fooled or lied about this in a long time.

Well I'm sure Sony were very thankful for it Wink
Exaggerating to sell the game and to interest basically every gaming site out there (and even many regular news sites) worked extremely well. Huge win there.

Maybe it was directed from Sony or maybe it was all Sean, who knows. He must have known he'd take a big hit. I do get the feeling Sony feels both guilty + they see great potential in this (and future things like a new game and most likely DLC's).
