I'll never come to terms with the modern one-button cineautomatized "platforming" and (once again) I'm expecting nothing when it comes to the story, but won't say no to the yarr seas as per tradition. This one was developed primarily by Eidos instead of Core Design as far as I know (not sure it means anything in terms of gameplay though), the only thing I can hope is that this time pure exploration and tombs raidin' have more importance than Baysplosions, dramaticallyrunningawayfromfallingthings™ and extreme hand-holding...who am I kidding, gotta keep the viscerality intact! |
You meant instead of Crystal Dynamics. |
Oh yeah, of course (I remember reading though that it's more of a collaboration, so probably nothing drastic).
Edit: found it

Somehow (might be because it is a "collaboration" and they are the lead ?), this game seems more like a DLC/standalone of Rise of the Tomb Raider than a new game itself... more like when DOOM II got released....
Even the engine looks dated, and it seems these environnement actually look worse than Rise of the Tomb Raider.
That's also what I liked about TR 2013, is that while it was smaller environnement, I preferred the level design... In ROTR not so much, and this one seems worse...
Hopefully I'm wrong.
Even compared to the Uncharted Lost Legacy game (which is a $20 standalone DLC that feels like a new game) this one looks more dated....

Is it just my mind playing tricks on me, or does Lara have a bulkier model (with at least proportionally smaller tits)?

Yeah they made her arms bigger in this game, not by much but there's some tweaks to her character model to make it look more muscular.
I think there was a comparison image for it.
EDIT: No it was from the gear guide.
Spoiler: | |
EDIT: Guessing it's inspired a bit from Last of Us 2 and that trailer video and character, seems they're going after Naughty Dog a bit probably publisher then and seeing how popular those games were.
Though not quite as bulked up.

The female physique(thicker thighs+ass, smaller boobs) they're aiming for looks beautiful IRL in between a height of 5'2” and 5'6”. So, no surprise that she's relatively shorter now.

Lara's trademark physique is most definitely not fat. She is fatter in this than in previous installations - proportions are different. Her trademark physique is them nice, big titties. Like it or not, that is who she is from the very beginning.
Yes. Men don't look like random game heroes either (huge muscles, 6% body fat, etc), nobody is whining about that though, because this is escapism.
They should rename this Fridge Raider, because that is what she has been at these past couple of years, and it shows.

Yes, they've changed her trademark physique to one where the fat is stored in the upper legs.

She looks more average build-wise. I happen to like that body type but they ARE taking Lara in a very different direction than what she came from. She went from sex icon to feminist symbol.

Of course, and if people had the option to choose between this Lara and the one from the first 'new' game, I know who most people would go with.
But what most men want doesn't matter anymore, so we get thicc Lara here, no-tits version over there, and whatever the hell comes next in order to be inclusive as possible.
I suppose all of this only matters if you give a fuck about the series anymore. The last one I played was a poor excuse for a game, particularly when it came to 'raiding' tombs. |
Yeah I TRIED to like the Tomb Raider "reboot" but the quick time events, scripted events, "holding you by the hand" approach is the direct opposite of what Tomb Raider should be about namely large open maps that require lots of acrobatic moves to navigate, tombs to explore, secrets to find, puzzles to solve. Instead we got Uncharted: Lara mode.
I loved the last gen series of Tomb Raider games - it was a faithful reboot that had a good mix of puzzles, exploration, tombs, etc. What we get now is meh all over and having them rebrand Lara is just the final nail in the coffin. I'm sure the next reboot will involve Lara, formerly Lauren, transsexual archaeologist .

TBH, below 40, if you are overall healthy person, you have no excuse not to be fit.
I know this offends a lot of people, but coming from someone who lost 50 kilos, and got ripped: fat is not genetic. Fat is a choice. |
Yes.. yes you managed to offend me, good job I'm disabled, unable to walk or do properly useful exercise, which has meant my weight has increased - and is a lot more difficult to control than you might think.
Fat is definitely NOT a choice for some people.

Download Kinobody (111 MB) from public torrent and look into the Aggressive Fat Loss program. It involves doing intermittent fasting and balancing macro nutrients. Only a few pages long.

Play the way you want in Shadow of the Tomb Raider with new accessibility selections and customizable difficulty settings! Go beyond the single toggle for altering gameplay and say hello to new options like:
Optional Y Axis Inversion
Toggling on and off Vibration
Reducing Camera Shake
The option to center the camera horizontally so that it is ‘soft locked’ on Lara’s back, requiring the use of only one stick for movement. The other stick can still be used to move the camera if desired.
The option to tap rather than hold left trigger to aim down the sights
The option to use right (default) or left stick to aim, when looking down sights (left trigger)
The option to hold button press prompts rather than repeated tapping
The option to push the stick directionally for crank control prompts rather than rotate
Adjustable aim sensitivity
Our Audio accessibility options include:
Subtitles: Off, On with Color, On without Color
Environmental Subtitles: Display subtitles for all conversations taking place nearby, or only for critical conversations
Closed Captioning: Display additional or interpretive information such as sound effects, musical cues, and other relevant audio information
We’re not stopping there because we’ve made it possible for players to independently adjust difficulty for puzzles, traversal, and combat. There are four unique settings for the aforementioned trio: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Deadly Obsession. While traditional options like easy, normal, and hard can be swapped at any time, once a player chooses Deadly Obsession, it applies to all three categories (puzzles, traversal and combat) and they will be unable to change the difficulty for the remainder of the playthrough. Choose-wisely…
A loyal friend to any Tomb Raider completionist, Survival Instincts is back once again. Adventurers looking for a more holistic experience can toggle Beacon (next objective location) and Glow (interactable objects) on/off regardless of difficulty settings (except when on the Deadly Obsession setting, of course).
For a deeper look at the game’s difficulty settings, feast your eyes on the breakdown below.
Combat
Easy
Aim assist enabled
Enemies have lower health and do less damage
Ammunition boxes are plentiful
Enemies have illuminated silhouettes
Normal
Enemies have normal health and damage
Ammunition boxes are rare
Enemies have illuminated silhouettes
Hard
Enemies have increased health, do more damage and locate Lara more quickly.
No health regeneration in combat
Ammunition boxes are rare
No hit markers on the reticle
Enemies are not highlighted in Survival Instincts
Deadly Obsession
Same as hard
No HUD icon when Lara is being detected by an enemy
Exploration
Easy
Obvious white paint on critical path
Longer saving grab timer
Base camps are lit
Normal
Discreet white paint on critical path
Normal saving grab timer
Base camps are unlit
Hard
No white paint on critical path
Reduced saving grab timer
No Survival Instincts during exploration
Base camps are unlit
Deadly Obsession
Same as Hard
Base camps are unlit and require resources to light
Game only saves at Base camps
Puzzles
Easy
Lara gives direct hints on next action to perform
Interactable objects are highlighted in Survival Instincts
Objects necessary to progress highlighted in blue during Survival Instincts
Longer window of opportunity for timed mechanics
Normal
Lara gives general hints on the next action to perform
Interactable objects are highlighted in Survival Instincts
Normal window of opportunity for timed mechanics
Hard/Deadly Obsession
No hints are given by Lara
No Survival Instincts
Shorter window of opportunity for timer mechanics
The Survival Instincts beacon (which highlights the next objective location) and glow (objects Lara can interact with) can also be toggled on or off regardless of difficulty settings, except when on the Deadly Obsession setting. We hope these additions allow more fans than ever to enjoy Tomb Raider.

I've always wanted to get rid of the white paint that's marking climbable terrain. More developers should approach difficulty this way. It's a compromise, but I take this over a spam of highlights.
