For several days I've had issues with stuttering on the screen when I play games or watch clips etc.

Suddenly I remembered that I had set the monitor (47" fullhd led-tv) to 50Hz to run C64 and Amiga emulators smoothly (they're 50Hz while modern standard is 60Hz).

All the EU 50Hz SNES games were actually programmed to be "identical" in code by Nintendo, only they run slightly slower to "match" 50Hz.

Which means all the 60Hz games from Japan or USA were the actual, real speed the games were supposed to play.

Yeah, and the problem persisted until PlayStation 2 age. I guess in early days they didn't have hardware timers to spare, so they tied the entire code to vblank interrupt signal (because everything - graphics, input, "physics" - ran in one single loop, beside audio which was usually played on a DSP or secondary CPU).
But later on (SNES and PSX era), there was no such excuse and it's just shitty coding and porting. Some developers took care and modified game logic in PAL ports to compensate 17% lower speed, but most of them didn't.

Thank god for moving to HDTV where everything is 60 Hz world wide.

Also, a fun fact: Mortal Kombat games ran in 54.5 Hz on the arcades, so speed-wise there were no arcade-perfect ports on any console Laughing

Back in 2001. or so, I was running MAME under DOS (for performance, it was faster than under Windows) and I remember the DOS version being able to run in some weird ass resolutions I haven't seen anywhere else. Can't remember which VGA I had back then (either S3 Virge or Voodoo 3) but it was connected to a cheap 14" monitor.
Maybe they had more space in VGA bios for low res modes and timings because they didn't have to store anything larger than 1600x1200...

Can we conclude from this Nintendo thought EU gamers were retarded so they slowed things down? Bastards Mad

FFS, frustration is intense. I've installed more than a dozen games but I just get bored after 20 minutes whatever kind of game it is. I finished GTAV, since then I haven't been able to get into a single game, old or new. FFS. FFS. FFS.

Yeah, the stuttering of watching demos or playing scrolling games on WinUAE or WinVICE/CCS64 is annoying as hell and when I bought my telly I was so happy when I could play/watch stuff completely smooth without a hick-up every 50 frames or so. The only issue is when I forget to switch back to 60Hz after I'm finished with the emulators which lead to similar stutters in 60fps games.

I've come to the conclusion that no matter what faith (or lack thereof) you subscribe to, you're an agnostic. That means all christians, muslims, religious jews, hindus etc. are also agnostics. No matter what you do, you simply cannot prove nor disprove the existence of (a) God.

That makes the title Agnostic Christian seem hilarious (and not something any christian/whatever would agree on no matter what). Wink
