Is there a problem with DSR ?
I cannot get it to do anything unless I set nvcp scaling to "no scaling"...

I can select 4k in game but it does nothing without that fix

Could have bugged from something again, during a number of driver releases it required you to disable, reboot, enable, reboot for scaling to take so it's possible some newer driver changed something and now there's some other bug seemingly requiring or conflicting with monitor scaling above driver display scaling.

You might be able to adjust scaling mode on the monitor and see what works, if the display is handling scaling it shouldn't be too much of a issue if NVIDIA's GPU scaling isn't enabled.

398.18 Hotfix from NVIDIA.
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4678

Quote:

This is GeForce Hot Fix driver version 398.18 that addresses the following:

- Black Screen when booting Windows after installing 397.93 display driver

Taken from here:
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/geforce-hotfix-398-18.421423/
(Which also lists this as a newer branch so it could very well be that 398.11 lacks this fix too even if the hotfix mentions 397.93 but eh, I don't know. Seems weird to hotfix a older driver when a newer one is available but what do I know.)

Yeah something like that I guess.
First the driver itself, WHQL'd which means 1 - 2 weeks of awaiting certification or signing the .dll binaries by Microsoft and having it up on the Microsoft Update Catalog in some fashion ha ha.

And in the meantime they fix another problem with G-Sync which as KillerCrocker noted above this driver took care of a few of these though it's been a while so people have certainly waited but yeah this last one probably was finalized as the driver was being certified so it gets it's own separate hotfix.

And then something goes wrong in LA Noire VR rendering the game unstable and the weekend also saw Call of Duty Black Ops 4 kick off the beta test event and probably trying to attract noise to Battle.Net which they're now using for distributing the game by also including the PC version in this test.

And some stutter problem is discovered and here's hotfix #2 just a short while after the main driver and it's first hotfix.
At least Nvidia is staying up on top of things and actively working on these issues but hopefully the next one will be a more substantial main driver, 399.xx maybe ahead of the full 400.xx branch?

The usual mostly, test a older driver under the same scenario and see if it's stable.

The Vulkan beta drivers have gotten some good feedback for stability but 396.xx perhaps or 397.xx going back to one branch and testing from that if it's stable and working up to where it's unstable.
https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

Or just settling on a older good driver if you'd rather do that, if you upgraded from a driver a few months old that might be simpler than playing BSOD chance driver by driver until it seems stable maybe giving the 399.xx drivers a try once those are out instead.

EDIT: Modern GPU's are durable as all hell really, it's far more likely to be a software issue of some kind than hardware so that means the driver is first up for testing. Smile

Well there's third party non-reference models and those can differ depending on manufacturing number and revision.

https://us.hardware.info/reviews/5835/spot-the-differences-gigabyte-motherboard-revisions-present-markedly-different-test-results

This happens for most of them by the way, just that Gigabyte ended up in this article for a motherboard comparison. Smile
(And the example is more of a uncommon one in how stripped it ended up being for the revised model.)

But the GPU isn't going to fail just because of switched software so in this case it's not the hardware so the above is more of a example.
Besides, a quick Google search usually reveals things like full teardowns of the shroud and analyzing the hardware and components themselves. Smile

Mostly intended for Vulkan development, might have some bug fixes but by now I guess most of the previous ones have been merged into the code of the 399.07 drivers so these bring a few additional extensions (HDR) and a couple of additional bug fixes. Smile

Unfortunately not that I'm aware of although occasionally a article surfaces that has some testing over time with drivers and the GPU hardware to compare at least how the games ran then and how they run now.

But the focus is often on the newest game releases and fancy features in these and less so for older titles and re-testing these.

And NVIDIA 399.28 is out now but it's the Vulkan branch dev drivers. Smile

https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

As per usual following the main release driver but these tend to be on a slightly older branch even if the release version number is newer.

Mainly support for the latest SDK (1.1.84.0 I believe.) and runtime version and it's extensions which for this it's these two:

VK_KHR_vulkan_memory_model
VK_EXT_inline_uniform_block

Besides that there can be some bug fixes and differences from the regular release drivers but it's more for development or Vulkan API troubleshooting purposes.
(I guess Strange Brigade might see some differences as one of the initial commercial games running on Vulkan SDK 1.1 instead of 1.0 but it's probably minor unless 399.24 broke something really badly in VLK which is unlikely.)

I'm using the 397.54 vulkan branch, any newer and I get flashing black screen. Lasts for a short time, under a second, but repeats in regular intervals, which is quite irritating.

And yes, I remove drivers completely (ddu in safe mode, no driver updates via wu) and it does not help.

Don't know too much about the NVIDIA drivers myself though.

Guessing it's the usual it works or it doesn't and it's back to the last driver that was stable. Unfortunately sometimes there are regressions or more serious known issues.

Yeah some of the known issues carried over, some interesting additions and features too and perhaps now with the 400 series out NVIDIA can start wrapping up and fixing some of the longer standing known issues.

Though I'm expecting the next couple of drivers to add and enhance things even more for Turing GPU's primarily, fixing issues that pop up and so on.

Although that Photoshop problem has been around for a while now so it's about time it got fixed.

NVIDIA display driver 411.63

And release notes. Smile

At the very end of the install of these I had a popup saying no eligible video card was found even though they seem to be working fine and the Nvidia control panel shows my 1070 listed. First time I ever had that error pop up so it was just weird.

Yes. Nvidia added that if it detects you haven't purchased their new 2080.

Hi there everyone.

Having trimmed NVIDIA drivers for as long as I can remember, long ago I decided to make a utility to help make the modification and installation process more bearable.
Only lately I decided to make it more presentable, hopefully making it usable by the general public.

The app is pretty bare bones, and probably has bugs the size of rhinos, but I promise I'll work on it if it catches on and there's demand for improvements.

Speaking of improvements, I have a dependency definition scheme in the works, which would enable to define modules that depend on others (eg. the 3D Vision controller making no sense without 3D Vision). Also, I intend to add the option to repackage the drivers into a SFX archive.

Hope you find it useful.
Any bug reports and/or suggestions are welcome.

implemented the repackaging of the modified driver into a new installer package.
also added a previously unhandled Windows 7 installer folder, and touched up a couple of the modules' descriptions.
