Unfortunately the show reminds me a bit of Vinyl. Trying to convey some sort of feeling of an era, and no real story to speak of. This was always their major flaw IMO.

I was a bit perplexed too, but apparently having three seasons was the initial plan:
(From last year's interview):
Quote: | Simon: Assuming that all the critics in the world don’t come down on our heads and it finds an audience of some sort, it’s planned for two more seasons. The ensuing season will be in the late’70s, after these characters have been around, in this world, for about four or five years. And then, the final season we’ve planned for is ‘85/’86, which is when Times Square came crashing down around their heads. That would conclude it. |

..it's all good then.

I finally joined Rudy Pipilo for the Red Hot premiere and binged the second season, for me it was
There's a rather uneventful snail-like start but it serves as an adjustment to the time jump, as soon as the excellent late 70s atmosphere blossoms with all its unique personalities and the mood picks up, it's a beautiful nighttime crescendo again.
The realistic tone and character development are the absolute highlights of the show, everyone inside the Deuce has a story to tell. There can be redemption, but also damnation or simply complete apathy, it's a genuine vintage window on real life where extreme bleakness and charm coexist peacefully (as per Simon's tradition). Can't wait for S03 set in the mid 80s, that one should be a giant departure from the usual with even fancier hairstyles and glamorous erotic glitter xD

Beautiful and bittersweet, the third season was the perfect closure for the show. Hats off to good ol' Simon, Pelecanos and the entire cast for having succeeded in portraying such a believable, unique and captivating mini-ecosystem of characters and stories. *melancholically plays Dreaming one more time*
