at the end of every telltale episode there is a trailer for the next one, so completed or not maybe they will release what they have or at least make a video explaining what the ending is, i thought their partner for this game skybound is pretty big and would want for this to see it finished.

That's the thing though.. Seemingly no one from the regular employees knew the company was shutting down. They learned about it together with the rest of the world.
If they had known in advance, they could have worked on modifying Ep2 to provide closure, be it in gameplay, a finale video as you say, or whatever.
But nope.. No one knew about this, and the episode had already been finished, as in delivered to Microsoft/Sony/etc, long before yesterday...
So Ep2 will definitely not be providing closure. Unless they release an update to it in the future...

How could they do well when that sentence they show you at the start of their games, "The story changes / adapts to decisions you make", or whatever the exact phrase is, is one big joke?
They've stagnated and tried to take on too many projects at once. I mean, those licenses had to be super expensive, and yet most of them were wasted.
That Game of Thrones one was absolute shit that had lazy choices and consequence. They "changed" the story based on decisions you make, but in the same way how Dragon Age 2 made everyone straight or gay depending on whether the player wanted to fuck them.
The story should be consistent and changes should occur with how characters or events play out due to choices players make. Don't rewrite chunks of the story due to player choice.
Spoiler: |
Like with the traitor in GOT. No set traitor, it was whoever you didn't pick to be your adviser or whatever.
You essentially decided on who the traitor was based on who you didn't pick, making the characters weak.
How about if we picked the traitor as adviser, the story adapts that decision and opens up a different branch / path instead of just the same path but with certain characters cut pasted in and out?
Wasn't this the whole point of episodic content? To allow for better stories? Well you can't have that if you're working on 4 games at once and spending cash on licenses.
|
And the licenses are a waste anyway because most of the time they only get to use it for like one game and then nothing. Though I'm not familiar about how licenses work and whether they're only allowed one game, so this paragraph could just be me talking out of my arse.

Employees have revealed it's only TWD1 (their mega success that put them on the map), 7 Days to Die (a game they published, so not their regular audience), and Minecraft (targeting kids, not their regular audience) that have been big commercial successes for them.
Everything else ranged from meh to being a huge money hole. Batman for example absolutely tanked, apparently.
And we already knew that The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands were deemed failures. Which is the reason no sequel was planned for Wolf for so long. And Borderlands, it was actually revealed back in the day that the game was selling so bad that Telltale decided to cancel it and not finish it, but the game's leads really wanted to finish it, and managed to convince management to keep a skeleton team working on it. And that was back in 2015..
Their games were probably selling a good amount of copies, but most of them at $5 on a sale, and that wasn't enough to keep them afloat since they wanted to be a 300 employee studio that deals with 3+ licenses at any given time.

What happened with Tales from the Borderlands pains me to this day. Such a shame that Telltale's best game was also their biggest commerical failure.

Also the environment inside the company was really toxic.
https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/20/17130056/telltale-games-developer-layoffs-toxic-video-game-industry
Quote: | Executive review meetings with higher-ups like Bruner became infamous within the company as brutal, hours-long arguments where Bruner would belittle and question the choices of those involved with the studio’s projects, according to half a dozen sources. “When [Bruner] saw something he decided he didn’t like — which very often was exactly what he had asked for — [that] was really undeserved, and often really difficult for teams to deal with,” the source says.
Tulley Rafferty, a former Telltale programmer who worked at the company from 2008 until the November layoffs, agrees that the critiques were often devastating. “There was no warning. You go into the executive review, and they take a giant turd on you. That was your feedback: ‘We hate this thing that you made.’”
“I remember hearing one of my bosses say, ‘I love that we can just shout at each other and curse at each other in a meeting. It’s totally great,’” says one former employee. “I [didn’t] feel that way at all. It sucks. I don’t want to work every day where I have to yell at people and scream to have my voice heard… I think a lot of people burned out that way.” |
Ok, maybe they were being paid top $$$$$$$$$ to be the personal punching bags of their bosses, right? Welllll....
Quote: | More than half a dozen sources across the company also talked about a perceived culture of underpayment, citing salaries below industry standards that also required living in the notoriously expensive Bay Area. Issues of crunch and underpayment were particularly pervasive for the cinematics team, which was staffed by many junior members who had come straight from college. |

"In some form". In other words it will be a comic book, akin to "Fables: The Wolf Among Us" based on their Wolf game.
Same when Sam Lake was saying "We are looking for Alan Wake to return in some form" and tadaa it's going to be a TV show.

Not necessary.
And it's not really a good comprasion cuz the comic book for Wolf is already out and the planned game just recently been cancelled.

Additional reporting by Variety: https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/telltale-games-the-walking-dead-studio-closure-1202955309/
Lionsgate pulling out was the major culprit responsible for Telltale shutting down. Lionsgate had invested $40M back in 2015 for Telltale and themselves to develop a live-action/interactive hybrid project, that as has been reported before, nothing came out of it. So no wonder they didn't invest again.
As for ep3 and 4 of TWD:
Quote: | The most pressing question about Telltale’s active projects seems to be about “The Walking Dead: Final Season,” which one employee said was unlikely to see the light of day anytime soon. The third episode is said to be extremely close to finished, while the fourth and final is still very rough. |

Developing games in Bay Area? Whoa that's a recipe for disaster. Is there a successful developer in Bay Area?
Hm... there are quite a few: https://gamejobhunter.com/local-video-game-companies-san-francisco-bay-area/ but interestingly most of them are playing in 2nd and 3rd division or lower.
Bay Area is just too costly for gamedev.

It will 99.9999% contain a preview. The episodes are delivered to Microsoft/Sony/etc. weeks prior. At that point in time no one knew the company was to go under. And if the higher-ups knew, they kept it to themselves. So the developers would have included a preview, as usual.
