Maybe it's a little OT, but I would like to ask in your experience what's the best controller for PC fighting games? Control Pad with a nice d-pad, SNES style, not arcade stick (which I already have one). The cheapest corded USB one - but reliable, if possible. I'm using a Logitech Dual Action and the d-pad sucks big time. Thanks.

I have not tried a PS4 controller but the Xbox One controller Dpad allowed me to do a lot of the moves in PC fighting games that I could not do with my Xbox 360 controller.

I can only talk from my own experience and yeah, the Xbox One dpad is a noticeable improvement over the Xbox 360 one for fighting games. Even the sticks feel a lot more precise.
I doubt they're the best option though, but I don't know any better Razz

Thanks both! So it is the regular XBone controller? Not the Elite? It is way more expensive...

But with the elite one you can change the sticks and dpad with a different cover to fullfill your needs.

Here an example of the ones included.

Yeah I see some affordable XBone controllers, but also there's this DS4 option... only thing is, DS4 needs to be wireless? I want it to be corded. Thanks!

You dont need ds4windows to use PS4 pad.
It will work noramlly with any game that support DirectInput
oe you can use Steam BP as a layer to emulate xshit

Dualshock 4 is definitely my favorite for PC, and the touchpad even doubles as a mouse trackpad if you want it to and it can have several buttons/macros on there. It's quite versatile.
Native steam support now is great.

I have an xbox controller as well but I don't like R1 and L1 on that for most games.

I like ds4 but its shit on pc with bad support. Ive even seen a video that it lags compared to others. And arent most game prompts xbox Xinput?
Is the ds4 support better now?

360 and xbox one pads work perfect wirelessly and battery is 5 times better than ds4. Its easily 40/50 hours on both but 360 pad is still somehow better imo. They fucked up shoulder buttons on xbone pad and something about it feels weird.

And when I use steamlink to watch movies on tv, steam controller is a seamless mouse and keyboard. It is just my tv remote Laughing

So you would say the Steam controller is a good option as well? Is the d-pad responsive for fighting (read: technical movement) games?

DS4 is the best gamepad for PC in my opininion. Out of the box not all games work properly with it because only a few detect it explicitly as a DS4 and most detect it as a standard Xinput device, this isn't always useful. Also, some games literally only work with a X360 controller and nothing else.

So you either need DS4Windows running to get 100% support with everything and have fancy x360 button prompts instead of generic crap, or use Steam's emulator or whatever it is doing. I prefer DS4Windows, it works perfectly with older games and newer games, with emulators etc etc. Because it is a univesal solution that makes the apps detect the x360 gamepad and you can change the mapping to the DS4 even if they don't support control scheme changes. You can use profiles etc.

DS4Windows also supports using a generic Bluetooth adapter to connect 1 or more DS4. The official Sony BT dongle only supports 1 device, I think you need a second dongle for a second device LOL.

It is important to use the Ryochan7 fork of DS4Windows, it is constantly updated. And enable the "Hide DS4 controller" option in the Settings because some retarded games receive double input from the DS4 device and the emulated X360 device...

(But serious, I agree with everything here. I just run DS4Windows for everything as the support is much better and pretty much pliug-and-play.)

Not a game' fault and in fact it is a game's plus if it supports both xinput and directinput

The Steam or Steam Big Picture overrides have a few settings improving the DS pad support but I believe this enforces XInput mode so you have to disable that if you want native Direct Input use and game itself supporting the DS4 without these overrides.

The various client updates and the beta client update currently ongoing has made a lot of changes over time to this and now supports some 100+ controllers and various overrides but due to going via XInput occasionally you might want to ensure this is disabled if the game itself has native support for DInput devices.

Hell no unless You are fine with fine adjusting and learning every game from the start. Its fun to use and its great mouse and keyboard from a couch for watching movies but I am not one of people who swear its great for gaming. I trained for few days and You can do everything with it but I prefer real m+kb or controller for games.

@too all posters below.
How the hell can You still recommend ds4 pad if it requires additional software for compatibility and don't have proper button prompts in many games while there is ready solution which is actually plug and play.
You can't say ds4 is objectively better than 360 or xbone pad. These OBJECTIVELY have better battery for wireless, no software needed and much more compatible games.
The ds4 is a good option but it sucks on pc in comparison to readily available solutions. Even sony don't give a shit about support. Sure 3rd party software helps emulate xinput on it but whats the point?

One thing I can underatand is that ds4 is comfy and nice gamepad. I love it on ps4. But battery life still sucks ass

sure it can, the dongle sony is selling is a simple bluetooth dongle

in both cases you still should use inputmapper, while xbox 360 and one controller work fine out of the box (the later with usb too, or bt or the ms receiver).

switched to the xbox one controller with receiver last week from my 360 pads, its fucking awesome. i do have two ds4 pads from my ps4 too, but i only use them for fighting games. i simply cant play lets say fifa properly with the ps4 pad, or lets say its way more exhausting for my fingers cause i like the xbox sticks way better
