I just watched a video stream.. there seems to be very little, if any, fall damage, which i think is pretty stupid. he jumped down from a giant mountain onto solid rocks.. hope it's related to difficulty setting. |
There's an ability that mitigates fall damage. If you upgrade it all the way I think it just disables fall damage.

Interesting, I recall dying pretty easily in Origins though it could be mitigated into a roll as I remember but only from less than a certain distance before it was instantly fatal.
Guess it can be upgraded further then.

Those mercenary enemies are so spongy, i guess they just took the nemesis system idea from mordor but without those "bosses" having strengths/weaknesses that allowed you to deal with them quickly?

I think AC:O won with novelty. Judging by reviews this is basically an AC:O reskin with some tweaks.

I like the look of the setting, but I don't like what I've been hearing about levels, the same old grind etc. From what I heard, AC:O changed it up for the better, so if it's more of the same in that regard, I don't get it. |
from what I heard the grind was worse in AssOranes and in AssOdyssey it the progressiona bit more natural at elast i in therms of the progression

You can disable them, it's just an accessibility setting. (default is off)

There seems to be a lot of diversity, snow, sand, forests, and lots of islands and ocean of course.. The main rocky terrain i'm not a big fan of, but it's also how it looks there so.. Rocky terrain is overall my least favorite theme, one of the reasons i'm not too hyped about the upcoming TES
So far i prefer AC:O, but it might change when i actually get to play it. I do like diving and from what i've read they've expanded on that a bit.
Reskin.. Not really, i mean then you can say that about any game series almost. I think i'd draw the line where someone reuses the same map again but with another theme, that would be a reskin.

This engine by Ubisoft is very versatile, and their materials teams do very well. I mean, if you look at terrain and materials in Wildlands and then Origins. Wildlands had a very varied map and it help up pretty well. Origins was mostly desert and rock, but still had vegetation areas and inside structures. The move to Europe here should give the engine again the ability to shine.
This engine had a very rocky start in Unity and Syndicate, but hardware performance going up and optimizations have made it a pretty good engine overall.

I like it better than Origins so far. Probably my monitor but all that orange sand in Origins hurt my eyes if I played too long.
Playing as the woman because she has the better VA for me.

Yeah from my understanding Assassin's Creed 3 and Black Flag plus Rogue (The first major update to the Anvil Engine that is.) all had problems with CPU utilization and scaling usually not taking full advantage of even quad core CPU's and thus suffering from this.
Unity and Syndicate did a lot better with the update to Anvil NEXT which is also what you see on games such as For Honor and Wildlands though modified further and less rushed on release.
For Origins here and Syndicate the issue has almost been reversed now, the game scales up to I believe I read it's around 16 physical cores and it can also take advantage of SMT/HT for 16 logical cores but it does not scale down very well.
For NVIDIA there's also deferred render context support and Origins used 8 of these threads and no less regardless of CPU, utilized in this way CPU and GPU utilization and overall performance can be improved but well a octa core CPU is not the most common even for higher-end Intel models and until recently that also went for AMD models.
For AMD they do not properly support this but the engine is still really threaded and using a lot of cores for pushing a ton of different tasks so even if CPU utilization is lowered you still need a hexa or preferably a octa core CPU for good scaling with the caveat that it doesn't scale down much if at all CPU wise and thus reducing the settings if you are hitting a CPU limit might see minimal or uneven gains.
Could be better in terms of CPU scaling as such and Odyssey is also pushing a 60% larger landmass than Origins with several enhancements so it is going to be more demanding.
The water shader is rewritten and much better, video comparisons will show additional dynamic tessellation and effects for the water waves against consoles.
(Personally Origins water effects were some of the best I have ever witnessed in a video game thus far.)
The vegetation is far denser and more varied, Origins had marshlands and the Cyrene region with verdant grassland fields. Odyssey has full on forests and ranges from verdant to ardent and different climates and habitats or how to call it beyond what Origins had.
(Origins was far from just desert but this is taking it even further.)
More tessellation and details beyond enhancing the ground terrain such as rocks and similar.
Higher polygon character models and higher texture quality.
(One downside is that cloth physics is running at 30hz instead of 60 so it can be a bit jarring if you hit 60 FPS or higher.)
Greater view distance though I am going to assume that LOD and scaling is a bit more aggressive even if Origins already used a pretty short distance but unless you actively looked for it most of the game had very good systems for not making it totally obvious with pop-in and transitions to lower level of detail 3d objects.
(It also used a lot of different levels scaling almost to PSX quality and super-low polygon at the very farthest stage way off in the distance.)
And from PCGamesHardware.de and it's comparison where this is from then for this there's around a 20% steeper performance hit against Origins, honestly not bad for what they squeeze out of the game visually at the highest preset.
(Drivers might enhance performance a bit but if it's a CPU limit that's going to be a bit uneven.)
EDIT: While good in Origins the temporal AA implementation here in Odyssey is also better.
EDIT:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=328&v=FLVjY_SqrAs
That should showcase some of the engine water effects it can product but I guess just as Origins there's quite a few different types of water and water properties.
Well for a few seconds at least, it's also a cutscene so it can be using a specific weather and lighting setup in addition to other effects but it is in-game.

Sometimes it makes you wonder if this is all real or we’re living in a simulation that has gone to shit. I mean this is all too silly to be real, yet it is.What the actual fuck is wrong with these companies? Are they high?
