Fortunately that will also happen, but some patience is required

That's a bit far fetched. As far as I can understand, the developers started with developing something like an SS game which would then get pitched as such, it was by no means a planned sequel.
Since they got overly impressed by RE4 gameplay and switched to that concept, I can only say I'm glad they did so, otherwise if they managed to pitch their own SS sequel "for the masses", it would have been a disaster IMHO. This way those who liked the end Dead Space game were happy and those who liked SS were likewise happy not to get the name smeared by some action game.
BTW, I realize it's a comment from January, but I've missed it beforehand.

Wow didn't know it was that long, I thought the graphics in that game was pretty good back then.

I certainly hope Isaac is a transgender, npn binary POC this time around. Was a big problem with the original for me.

The game still looks good tho? Why does it need a remake? it's not a PS2/PS1 game.

That's what I find weird too... the main inspiration behind this seems to be the RE remakes, but those made sense as the originals were pretty old games. Dead Space isn't. It may have aged visually, but otherwise it holds up.

Maybe to finally add proper mouse support and sell it as a Definitive Edition?

Yea, the game has aged like pure gold wine. It holds up excellent even to this today.

It is indeed a strange decision, I replayed Dead Space with the aforementioned mouse fix + downsampling + Reshade on top of it (MXAO, Ambient Lighting, etc.) last year and it felt absolutely great in terms of gameplay, presentation/design and actual immersion. Sure, some of the textures and models weren't exactly crispy, but it didn't affect the overall experience.
A remake on a more modern engine would be mainly aimed at younger couchpeople, testing the waters for a nextgen De4d Sp4ce. It's not unlikely that EA's plan is to release a watered-down "reimagining" that pisses on the franchise, again. We'll see I guess.

Fuck it! Gonna install and replay this. Well, Dead Space 1 AND Dead Space 2 both, actually...
What? There's also a Dead Space 3, you say?!
/idontbelieveyou.webp
Anyway, excellent horror / survival / Sci-Fi / immersive / lalaland games these are!

I’ll admit, I am looking for a cheap GOG price for part 1 and the mouse fix now hehe.

I tried to replay the game on game pass last month but got stuck with a bug where doors would not open. Apparently related to framerate (not sure though)

I know I was never part of the target audience of this game as I'm not much into horror (I do like it when it's used more as a theme and less for scares and what not - I always like to bring up original A. Mcgee's Alice for this), but I liked a lot about 3. Really nice implementation of coop, weapon system was really cool, liked the idea of exploring derelict ships, etc. Its main issue for me was more of a general videogame issue: A LOT of asset reusing, the game clearly being rushed, especially in the second half.

Don't forget the microtransactions!
It's actually a shame what happened to that game, because like DarkRohirrim mentioned, there were quite a few cool aspects about it.

Dead Space 3 dropped the mojo.
It was a 'decent' 3rd person shooter, but it didn't capture anymore what made the series special.
For a 2021 playtrough of the first game, follow the instructions here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dead_Space - the mouse fix is also there.

Yeah, I think Dead Space 2 was peak altho I liked some mechanics and in-depth expansion of some mechanics DS3 brought. Sadly, it degraded in a lot of other apsects.
