wanted to buy a samsung m2 ssd but now i have seen that those will get pretty high temperatures. 50-80°
i just got 2 fans in my case, one in front and one in the back and both at 7v, so my pc is silent.
it's more then enough for now but im kinda worried if the new m2 ssd will heat up my case.

anyone in here got a m2 ssd? is it even worth it over a normal ssd? how are your temperatures in idle and playing games?
i mean if it just boots 1 second faster, why should i get one and not a normal ssd?

Well, for gaming you shouldn't need m2 for now. Only one that benefits from pure read ops is witcher3.

bought the m2 nvme ssd now anyway. Laughing "new" tech, couldn't resist.
turns out it is really hot, but not as hot as some people say.
still, bought a heatsink for it and now it's just perfect.

For my next build I would plan to get an M2 with at least 256GB for OS, Browser and similar, 512GB SSD for games and 2-3TB HDD for storage.

162€ is a bit much for just 500GB of HDD :/ But the read/write speeds and ops are impressive Surprised

yes that is the one i got.
im not sure but i think i paid almost the same for my normal 250gb ssd a few years ago, so i can live with this kind of price.
sure the normal evo 500gb ssd is 60 euros cheaper now, but it's still ok for my taste.
about the speeds, nice to have, but you won't notice a huge difference. windows boot is a little bit faster and games load a little bit faster, but it's not really needed.

just get one if you want something new. otherwise get a normal ssd, it's not like coming from a hdd > ssd, so you won't notice that much of better writing and reading speeds.

Looking to buy a bigger ssd.

From the two mentioned below is Samsung the obvious choice?

even better aiming? whooop whoop, and i should consider get one with rgb, cause that improves aiming too!!!!

and ofc i do have two ssds in my system. the only real step forward would be replacing all other four drives with ssds, but that would be very expensive Razz

Good deals currently.

Too bad I already have 3x 1Tb SSDs already and it makes no sense to get a new one just because it's a super good deal. Sad

I was looking for 1TB SSD for a while now. So this deal was too good to pass Smile

So, I've noticed that 480 to 512gb ssd's are finally well priced... but I also noticed that those are TLC drives.
My plextor m5s 128gb mlc which I use for system drive is 6 years old and not showing any signs of failure yet and as a system drive, there are constant read and writes.

Are TLC drives better to be avoided or whatever? What is the general consensus here? The article at https://techreport.com/review/27909/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-theyre-all-dead/2 explains that even simple TLC drives can last 500tb of p/e. Which is not much?

All of this kinda sucks. I want to fully convert to ssd, but all those drives are TLC and soon to be QLC.
Which drives are 3d nand or vnand TLC? This is barely in spec sheet and I am not sure where to look at. Cheapest 500gb drives here are Crucial, Kingston, Adata and Silicone Power. If these are just TLC then probably meh but 3d TLC should be almost as good as MLC right ?

And that is just reliability. is speed or multithreading still a thing to be bothered with? My old ssd is only 480r/200w and bottlenecks like crazy if I do more than one thing on it. Are all recent dives 500/500 and better at multitasking or is it not the case?

One thing I learned and currently stick to when it comes to SSDs is: Samsung! (pretty much all VNand and soon 3DNand).

Your article is from 2015 and extremely outdated btw.

I was running SSD-only since 2016 and shove alot of files around because I'm constantly downloading/updating games/mods and other media and my drives are still super healthy.

For storage that is supposed to survive long after the apocalypse, I use HDDs externally.

Also, the bigger they are, the longer they last apparently.

2011 - 2016 Build • Fractal Design R5 Titanium (Window) • i5-2500K @ 4,5GHz • Corsair Hydro h115i • ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Performance • 2x4Gb G.Skill Ripjaws F3-10666CL9-4GBRL • EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ • Corsair RM550(W) PSU • 2x Samsung 850 Evo (120gb/500gb) •
2018 - x Build • Fractal Design Define R6 Gunmetal • Intel Core i9 9900K • Corsair H150i Pro RGB AIO • Asus ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO • 2x16Gb Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4-3200 • EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ • Corsair HX850i PSU • 1x Samsung 970 Evo M.2, 1x Samsung 860 Evo SATA, 1x Samsung 850 Evo SATA •
