12 draws in a row isn't even close to the record, which was in the eventually aborted WC match between Kasparov and Karpov in 1984. 17 draws in a row. And engine preparation cannot be blamed for that one.

The difference is that nowadays the matches consist of only 12 games and this was all draws, which is a first. They should reduce the time controls by 20% (they are blitzing out the opening anyway), reduce the rest days and make it 18 games. The rapid tie breaks should be maximum 8 games (so they must last a second day). If the rapid score is drawn then the title holder keeps the title. No armageddon coin flip game...
